Book It, Notre Dame has a 2016 QB commit
Steve Wiltfong - 12 minutes ago

Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Sanford has had El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge standout Ian Book at the top of his 2016 board for months.

It just hasn’t been known publicly.

    Till now.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Book has committed to Notre Dame.

A verbal to Washington State since April, Book took a visit to South Bend this past weekend, fell in love and gave his verbal to Sanford on Tuesday. The two have been building a strong rapport for quite some time now.

The 247Sports Composite ranks Book as the nation’s No. 21 pro-style passer. As a junior he completed 63 percent of his passes for 2,025 yards and 18 touchdowns to just seven interceptions.

“The best way to describe Ian is his accuracy,” said The Range founder and Book’s personal quarterbacks coach Will Hewlett. “His efficiency and accuracy are on point. Very, very intelligent with the football. What you’ll notice when you watch his film is his level of athleticism to extend the play. Although he doesn’t fit the traditional dual-threat cat, the kid has some impressive feet and hips and is extremely elusive. He’s a legitimate 4.7 laser, he’s extremely fast, but you don’t see it as much with the way the offense is designed.

Book was one of the quarterbacks Sanford went and saw during the spring evaluation period.

“He’s one of those types of kids, every time he threw for a coach or they watched his game film he has come away with positive remarks about how accurate he is,” Hewlett said. “The ball won’t hit the ground when it’s on air.

“The big thing why is he under the radar, he’s 6-foot tall. Add three more inches and he’d be in the same conversation with Jacob Eason and all those guys in my opinion.”

Interesting connection with new commitment Ian Book. His quarterbacks coach also works with Hunter Johnson in the off-season.

Seems like just about the perfect QB take for 2016 as they zero in on Hunter for next year. Welcome Ian!

Agreed. He undoubtedly can sling it considering who had already committed to...he's a great addition. Welcome aboard Ian!

17-of-22 passes for 277 yards and one touchdown on the day...

Glad to see Book is going to be pushing Wimbush for the job

I thought Book looked a lot more accurate than Wimbush. But Wimbush was accurate enough. To my eyes, the difference was that Wimbush's receivers seemed to have to adjust to the ball more often, while Book's receivers seemed to catch a lot more balls in stride. I think the biggest difference, in terms of who will start, is Wimbush's running ability. As the season progresses; if the stable of RBs lives up to its potential, then Wimbush's running ability will be less valuable. So, if the team is struggling(which is highly unlikely, if the RBs are tearing things up), then the coaching staff may be more willing to pull the plug on Wimbush. But I think that Wimbush will take the first snap against Temple, and the vast majority of meaningful snaps after that. Book's future is certainly bright, though!

I think a lot of the lack of TEs in the passing game, the last couple of years, was an effort to max protect an inexperienced QB. That, and a deep receiver corps, meant that the TEs were going to be doing a lot of pass protection instead of pass catching.
