Coaches are paranoid by nature, so even as Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey felt good about where the Irish stood with a pair of their top 2014 targets heading into the fall, he was concerned neither were in the fold by the start of September.
“I’m always nervous when we get off the road in August and on our A-list, we don’t have more names,” Brey admitted. “We went into this year under a little bit of pressure because we didn’t have a commit. So I was a little bit concerned.
“But you know what’s funny? It kind of worked itself out and we got the guys we should have got at the end of the day and they’re great fits for us.”
And on Wednesday, the first day of college basketball’s early signing period, Brey was able to publicly announce the signings of forwards Martin Geben and Bonzie Colson Jr.
