NLA Vegas Elite 7on7: Best of Day 1 (free)
LAS VEGAS- There was a very impressive collection of talent Saturday at the Next Level Athlete 7-on-7 tournament on the campus of UNLV. The event featured several top quarterbacks, defensive backs and receivers.
Here’s a look at the top performers in our eyes after the first day.
Tahaan Goodman, S, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./ Rancho Cucamonga
Goodman was another force out of the deep backfield. Often times he was on the same side as Priest Willis and the two simply blanketed that side of the field. He's very physical as a safety which showed today with an aggressive style of play. Goodman also was a vocal leader for his team, which sparked some energy in key situations.

Las Vegas New Level 7-on-7 Day 2 notes - ESPN
Safeties in numbers
Sticking with California safeties, Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) safety Tahaan Goodman likely boosted his stock as much as any player who participated in the New Level Athletics Elite 7-on-7 tournament this weekend. He consistently made big plays -- be it interceptions or pass deflections -- to help his team win games.
It's not as if Goodman was a surprise as he has already received close to two dozen offers from schools across the country, including Boise State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Washington. Goodman said he was shocked by his first offer, from South Florida, which came in as soon as his highlight tape was released and before he had spoken a word with anybody from the Bulls staff.
There was a time early in the process when Goodman and teammate Chris Hawkins, a standout cornerback, were set to head to college as a package deal. But as the recruiting process continues, the two have decided to handle it on an individual basis.
Goodman's size, 6-2 and 190 pounds, and strong upper body make it easy to look at him simply as a big hitter in the backfield. But he said the time he's put into working with B2G sports and various 7-on-7 events has improved his coverage ability. It was certainly on display this weekend.
"I'm getting a lot better with my ball skills," Goodman said. "I'm working on footwork and being a ball hawk. I'm feeling really good heading into my senior season."

Wrap: NLA Vegas Elite 7on7 (free)
LAS VEGAS- There was little doubt that this year’s New Level Athletics Elite 7-on-7 at UNLV was a step up in terms of talented prospects in attendance and sleepers that emerged.
This event was a 7-on-7 that featured round robin play on Saturday, followed by a single-elimination tournament on Sunday. Team Utah won the event, outlasting the 1925 All-Stars, which were coached by former NFL receiver Keyshawn Johnson, in the championship game.
This was the second NLA event of the recruiting cycle. There was one in Atlanta in early March and Pittsburgh in late April is the next stop. There will be a national championship event this summer, which figures to feature many of the top teams/prospects that are showcased here.
Coverage of the top prospects in this region is not complete. Next weekend in Los Angeles, 247Sports will have coverage of the Juniorrank Diamond Flight Camp and the National Underclassmen Combine Five-Star Showcase on Saturday and the Nike Football Training Camp at USC on Sunday. All figure to be loaded events.
The Stars
-We saw safety Tahaan Goodman (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) at the Cal State Game Junior Combine back in December and he impressed there from an eyeball standpoint. With that, his showing was nothing like what he did this past weekend. Goodman’s size and range is evident, but the way he was able to break on the ball and his instincts for the game stood out all weekend. There is no early “feel” school for Goodman as his offer list continues to expand.
Overall, Cravens, Willis and Goodman were- to me- the top three 2013 prospects there, but three more caught our eye as well.

Dominating DBs put on show at LA Nike Camp - ESPN
NORWALK, Calif. -- It was no secret heading into the Los Angeles Nike Football Training Camp on Sunday at Cerritos College the defensive backs were expected to steal the show.
They did.
Defensive backs Chris Hawkins, Priest Willis and Tahaan Goodman received invitations after the camp to The Opening, but they were by no means the only secondary performers who showed themselves well.
Goodman plays in the same defensive backfield as Hawkins at Rancho Cucamonga, so it's hard to imagine that teams are going to be throwing much on the Cougars this year.
Scouts believe Goodman brings an intimidating physical presence to the field as a 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety. His true value is going to be measured in an actual game when the pads are on and hitting is allowed, but even in a camp setting it was easy to appreciate his skill set.
"He's got great size," Fletcher said. "I don't know what they're feeding these kids out in Rancho Cucamonga, but they've got some players. Tahaan knows how to zero in on the ball and close well."
Goodman has been offered scholarships by schools such as USC, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Florida.

It wouldn't surprise me at all now if defensive backs Priest Willis and Tahaan Goodman end up playing at the same school and that destination could be UCLA. The two have played together in the 7-on-7 circuit, the Bruins are a hot program now and playing together in college has to have been discussed since they have a few visits planned together.
Many felt Goodman would be committed to USC by now and that he's tighter with his teammate (and USC commitment) Chris Hawkins, but he and Willis will be at UCLA this weekend and both are expected to visit LSU together as well.

Tahaan Goodman will continue to flirt with some SEC schools, but I think he stays out West and heads to USC or UCLA (watch out for the Bruins here). Meanwhile, Leon McQuay III is leaning to Vanderbilt, I think with USC looming this weekend or next.

With college football's national signing day inching closer, college staffs are starting the stretch run to finish the 2013 cycle. In our latest “Finish Line” feature, 247Sports and Bruin247 take a look at what left for UCLA in the 2013 cycle, which is a class currently with 18 commitments.
Tahaan Goodman, S, Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.)
The recruitment of the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Goodman is one of the most intriguing on the West Coast. While most believe the U.S. Army All-American will end up at USC or UCLA, he is playing things very close to the vest.
Hopkins on Goodman’s recruitment: “Goodman continues to be an enigma on the recruiting trail. He often dodges questions and his top group remains fluid. However by most accounts, this appears to be a fierce cross-town battle with USC for the Bruins. Assistant Demetrice Martin is one of the best recruiters in the Pac-12 and sources indicate he may have widened his lead in the last few weeks.”

A strong UCLA (as well as other PAC 12 teams) that weakens USC is good for the Irish. Part of Pete Carroll's success was due to lack of competition from the rest of the PAC 10 for both wins and recruits.
