According to a tweet from Mike Farrell, Butler has pushed his announcement up to April 11. His guess is ND.

    Butler Is Irish (free)

Cornerback is a position of priority for Notre Dame in the Class of 2013 and the Irish have a target number of three for the position.

Washington, D.C. cornerback Devin Butler just announced his verbal commitment to the Irish, giving Notre Dame two at the position as he joins New Jersey athlete Rashad Kinlaw, who is also being brought in as a cornerback.

Butler confirmed the decision with Irish Sports Daily before taking to Twitter.

"I'M COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME!!!! #GOIRISH"

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Butler, from Gonzaga College Prep High School, chose Notre Dame out of more than 20 offers from programs like Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Maryland, Iowa, North Carolina, West Virginia, Vanderbilt and several others.

On the eve of his announcement, Butler said Wisconsin, Michigan and Penn State were the other finalists.

A visit to South Bend last week helped launch Notre Dame to the top of Butler’s list as he changed his announcement date from May 12th to April 11th and ultimately to today.

He left a visit to Penn State last month with the Nittany Lions as his clear leader, but that was before a Midwestern swing brought him to Notre Dame after seeing Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Notre Dame last week.

Notre Dame is getting a solid player, according to Gonzaga College head coach Aaron Brady.

“He’s a 6-1 corner who can run,” Brady told Irish Sports Daily. “He’s also done very well in track. Those two combined with great ball skills, he can go get the ball.

The Irish place a premium on big corners and Butler and the 6-foot-2 Kinlaw give the Irish a pair of them.

“I think everybody likes a tall corner nowadays with all of these tall receivers out there running around,” the coach said. “If you can find a guy who’s tall that wants to play defense, that’s a catch.”

It’s another catch for Notre Dame recruiting class, which has now reached double-digits with 10 pledges.

    More coming with Butler soon.

CB Devin Butler verbally commits to Notre Dame (free)

You only have one chance to make a good first impression. And that was all Notre Dame needed in courting the services of Devin Butler of Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga High.

The 6-1, 180-pound cornerback took a series of visits in March to Penn State (3/16), Michigan (3/24), Wisconsin (3/27) and Notre Dame (3/29). Each stop impressed him along the way, including the Nittany Lions being made the public favorite following the trip, but the last stop along the way to South Bend was all he needed as he offered his commitment before leaving the Irish campus.

Butler originally set an announcement for May 12 while still on the Irish campus, then moved up to April 11 and decided he was prepared to make his decision known via Twitter on Wednesday at 10 a.m., per his report to BlueandGold.com on Tuesday.

The D.C. native recorded 43 tackles, six interceptions and 12 pass breakups as a junior, and is rated by 247Sports as the No. 43 athlete in the nation and the No. 3 prospect in his state.

His other finalists were Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin.

Butler is Notre Dame's tenth verbal commitment and the second cornerback to commit, the other being Rashad Kinlaw of Absecon (N.J.) Absegami High. The Irish are targeting at least three in the 2013 haul.
