It would be nice to pull another stud out of N.Y.

Future247 and five-star defensive tackle Jarron Jones of Aquinas Institute (Rochester, N.Y.) received his sixteenth scholarship offer tonight after talking with Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco.

“Yes, he offered me today,” Jones confirmed with BlueandGold.com. “I’m really interested in Notre Dame. They like me at defensive end.”

The 6-7, 290-pounder also has offers from Alabama, Boston College, Buffalo, Connecticut, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Florida, Syracuse and Tennessee.

Jones registered 68 tackles, 14 for a loss, ten sacks, four forced fumbles and an interception for the 13-0 Little Irish.

Check back with BlueandGold.com for more on Jones later.

ESPNU 150 Watch List defensive tackle Jarron Jones (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) went from no-name recruit to big-time recruit almost overnight.

"Last summer word started to get out about him," Aquinas Institute coach Chris Battaglia said. "Boston College gave him his first offer after he attended camp there for one day. After that he exploded on the scene. He had a great junior year and people started to notice him."

Buffalo, Connecticut, Rutgers and Syracuse are among the schools that have extended an offer to Jones since then. His most recent offers came from Florida and Notre Dame last weekend.

He also has offers from Alabama, Florida State, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, Penn State, Pittsburgh, South Florida and Tennessee.

The 6-foot-7, 300-pounder could end up being the top-rated recruit from New York in the Class of 2012.

"Everybody has given him a different view," Battaglia said. "Some schools look at his size and picture him as an offensive tackle. Then there are schools that see him on the defensive side of the ball. He can really run for a big kid."

Battaglia said Jones originally expressed an interest in attending college close to home.

"He's expanded his interests since then," Battaglia said. "We're looking for a school that will take care of him academically. It's real important that he graduates. And it sounds funny, but in four years he'd like to be a pro. He's a once-in-a-lifetime player."

Jones was edged out by 2012 MD DL Michael Moore this weekend at the New Jersey Five Star Showcase for the DL MVP award. Jones still received plenty of praise for his showing at the event and was compared to 2010 5* DL J.R. (Ego) Ferguson (LSU signee).

Jarron said he know's for sure he will unofficially visit Syracuse and ND in the spring and hopes to make a trip down south sometime this summer.

According to Philly.com, Jones is a "soft commitment." Then again, as we are reminded each year, all commitments are basically soft until signing day. Jones told BlueWhiteIllustrated.com that he has his top five colleges selected for visits. They are, in order, Penn State, the Syracuse Orange, Pittsburgh Panthers, Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He said the North Carolina Tar Heels are No. 6 on his list.
We're pretty far down on his list, but we'll see what happens after he visits.
