ESPN has a much higher opinion of Toney as he is a 4 star Top 10 CB on their board and is ranked #120 in the country overall on the ESPN 150[/code]
    I wonder why...

Honestly I think ESPN is right on this one. Hurd plays for pretty much a podunk school by Texas standards and it looks like Rivals and Scout just missed the boat here. The lack of an offer from Mack Brown always seems to downgrade Texas kids on those 2 boards.

If he plays for a small school, does that mean that his competition is weaker (honest question)? If so, that could explain the other sites' skepticism.

Hurd is a good get regardless, but ESPN often likes the guys that play in the UA game more than the other sites do....of course, I'm sure that is just pure happenstance. ESPN wouldn't engage in that kind of double-dealing, I'm sure.

They are not a small school. They play Texas 5-A which I believe is the highest division. The Division includes top state schools like The Woodlands, Skyline, and Odessa, and all of the regions in Texas at that level are very tough. So it's not that his competition is weaker, it's just that he does not play for a particularly good program. They were 3-6 last year and are 1-7 this year. They are also one of three big schools in Missouri City and the other two, Hightower and Elkins, are better known programs. Hightower especially is becoming one of the top programs in the state.

You can't punish a kid for having bad talent around him. All of the DBs we've gottent his year are good. Hurd and Wood will both be very, very good.

    Nichols comes in at #18.

Lueders moves up from #4 to a tie for #2 as he was given a significant jump in his ratings by both Scout and ESPN.

Lombard moves from #7 to #4 with a big improvement in his Rivals ranking.

Two big drops were Hendrix from #3 to #7, and Daniel Smith from #8 to #17, both because of significant downgrades by Scout.
