Returning Pro: Harry Hiestand headed back to Chicago Bears

Multiple sources tell Irish Illustrated that Notre Dame offensive line coach Harry Hiestand has been targeted by multiple NFL teams this off-season, including the Chicago Bears. The Chicago Tribune reported that Hiestand's return to Chicago was a done deal, taking Brian Kelly's top assistant back to the NFL ranks.

While the Bears also made an approach to Hiestand last winter, he turned the franchise down to return to Notre Dame, where he helped produced a Joe Moore Award winning group that featured consensus All-Americans Mike McGlinchey and Quenton Nelson on the left side. Hiestand spent five seasons with the Bears (2005-09), which included a Super Bowl appearance before two seasons with the Tennessee Volunteers, followed by his arrival at Notre Dame before the 2012 season. The Irish have won 10 games three times in Hiestand's six seasons on staff while producing first round picks Zack Martin and Ronnie Stanley, with Nick Martin going in the second round and Chris Watt going in the third.

    Totally sucks!!! He was awesome!

Ah well, he did ND proud and I don't begrudge him heading to the Pros. He's been masterful.

Tough loss, for sure, but as a Bears fan I'm ok with it.

This was the first thing Matt Nagy, a 39 year old first time head coach, decided to do. He's getting praised for it and Hiestand is getting lauded in Chicago for his reputation in addition to his results at Notre Dame under Brian Kelly.

Maybe they draft Big Q with the eighth pick.

Now you're talking with the Big Q pick.
