http://www.goldhelmet.com/images/news/ethanjohnson_175.jpgAre the Irish on a recruiting roll or what? In what comes as a surprise to many, Lincoln High School star defensive end Ethan Johnson has decided to play football for the University of Notre Dame.

Considered the top player in the state of Oregon by most recruiting services, Johnson led the Lincoln Cardinal defense last year with 83 tackles and 10 sacks. Those numbers earned Johnson some post season accolades, too. Johnson was selected to the 2006 Oregon 6A All-State Defensive Second Team as well as the 2006 6A Portland Interscholastic League Defensive Player of the Year.

Those numbers also earned him some big time recruiting attention as he piled up offers from the entire Pac 10 Conference, Michigan, Nebraska and many other college football powerhouses. In the end, we think Big Ethan made the right choice.

Ethan stands in as commitment number 17 in the 2008 Fighting Irish recruiting class. The class is currently on pace to be one of the highest rated defensive classes the Irish has ever inked -- and Ethan would be a big part of it.

Welcome to the family, Ethan!

It seems that the 'nasty' Coach Weis mentioned awhile back has been planted. Come this fall, we may begin to see the start of fruitful years to come. I feel that our defense is now catching up with our offense.
