Don't get me wrong....the current class is amazing. In my world....I still want a top notch WR. I will be doing the tutsie wootsie in Weis can land one.

I think we need a top WR badly. No question. That and LB are now our biggest areas of opportunity.

Does Mike Floyd fit the bill?

I think my new list is: Baldwin, Floyd, Brown, Filer and Forst.
After that,
the panic of losing these studs would set in.

Maybe ND gets them maybe they don't but ND is in great shape with Floyd and Baldwin and many are getting ahead of themselves that ND's a longshot for Brice Butler.
If ND can get all 3 they will.
IMO ND get's Floyd, it comes down to ND and UM for Baldwin and IMO it's 1 in 3 chance with Butler, he's going to end up at ND, F$U or U$C and it only helps ND's chances that Slaughter is now Irish.

I think the level of ND likelihood goes 1. Floyd (i think he's a stone cold lead pipe lock) 2. Baldwin (long pause) 3. Butler
IMO we really have no shot with Butler anymore. He's definitely warm weather bound. If we only get Floyd, then we take Brown as a WR and close up shop. If we can get Floyd AND Baldwin, wow. Just wow.

Even though I really think J. Brown is a player and would fit in well, if we could get either M. Floyd and J. Baldwin or B. Butler it will add some size to our WR corps. Right now Grimes and West are under 5'10 and Hord is 6'1 or 6'0. So if we could add Duval Kamara (6'5) Goodman (6'4) Floyd (6'3) Baldwin (6'6) and maybe even Butler (6'2) we really would have a great balance of big possession guys, big player makers, and smaller shifty YAC receivers. Plus with our height at TE it would really be quite the physical mismatches Coach Weis would be looking for.

I agree in principle but I think floyd and one of the other two is sufficient for this years class along with more d fense. I am a defensive person and will always lean that way...defense wins championships period!!!

I agree that defense is very important (espically for Notre Dame in these times) but it seems like more prospects are closer to commiting on the offense side of the ball compared to the defense. Floyd (Rumored long time ND lean) Butler (USC FSU and ND) Baldwin (ND MICH) C. Thomas (Rumored ND lean) Patchan (ND is in his top 10) vs. Filer (Rumored ND lean), Sabino (Who really knows) J.Brown (UF ND), McCarthy (OSU STAN ND).

Would love to see Floyd commit soon. I think we can get at Butler especially if he wants exposure.

The pride and joy of ESPN, Erin Andrews. There should be a law where she has to be on every sports broadcast that network has.

id like to get Floyd then Butler or Baldwin. I think Floyd is a lock.
With all the commits in this class, we'll only have a few needs to address next year.

Guys,
Do not panic!!! I believe we will get a couple good targets at WR. Further, do not count out a few of the talents coming on board this fall. I think one guy no one figures is Harrison Smith. If we are desperate for offensive size and field stretchers, this kid answers the bill. He is 6'2" and absolutely flys. Look at his highlight video's. He is one hell of a receiver. I know we brought him in as a DB, but if Charlie needs talent on O, he will make a move. The best players will play. He will be one of the big suprises come fall.

I've pondered that notion too. Some have thought about Mike Ragone moving to WR, but Harrison would make much more sense, especially considering the 6 other safeties we've already got. NOT that I think a move from defense to offense is imminent, or that I'd prefer it. Just saying if worse came to worse.

I would rather keep H. Smith at safety and maybe move Ragone to WR if needed. With our TE depth I think we can take a hit there for a year or two until we can get Floyd, Butler, J. Brown or Baldwin on campus. I think H. Smith could make a quick impact on the defensive side of the ball.

New running game + 2 TE sets would increase ball time for Reuland and even possibly Ragone.
Being that this Cool-Aid has been a bit spiked since our recruiting class has been rolling feverishly, I'll stick to my belief that Mr.Kamara will be a force to be reckon with.

Kamara will be a matchup nightmare. But I was always semi concerned (shouldnt be but Im a worrier) that his school in NJ was mostly a Wing T offense so it might take him some time to get polished enough to play in a pro style offense. I know he has all the skills and will be a huge play maker, but it will be a thing to keep up on to see how many strides he takes in his route running, and getting off jams.

I wouldn't be entirely worried about HS formations affecting his future. He's probably had The Good Book Of Charlie for a while, now.

Let's not forget about Tate. This kid will be a terror in the open field after the catch. I can see him making things happen with CW's favorite checkdown - the WR screen. I think Kamara will be more of a possession receiver, and his height will make him a threat in the red zone.

I dont think that he wont be able to handle the plays, im sure he will be. But coming from a VERY run heavy Wing T offense his route running might not be super polished, and how he fights and gets off the line will be something he will have to learn. But I have no doubts he will be able to.

So far the WRs are doing alright it seems :). Kamara is impressing for sure and his size cannot be overlooked. He is at 6'5", Parris is 6'4". Outside of that, not much height.
As far as recruiting goes, I really hope we get Baldwin, who is 6'6". Deion Walker is 6'4" so that would be great too. Floyd is 6'3" and Harper is 6'2". Assuming 2 of these four are added to 6'4" Goodman, we should get taller at WR.
Some don't think height is a big deal at WR. I do. The QB does not have to be as on target if the WR has a bigger wingspan (bigger target). Jumpballs are an obvious advantage as well. If a big guy can hold his own blocking, that is a good thing too.

I heard Floyd is more 6'5 then 6'3

I have a feeling we'll see plenty of #23 jerseys in the crowd before too long. If we don't take a RB this year I could see him used similar to Rocket and Watters, out of the backfield, in the slot....gotta get this kid the ball however you can.

I really believe that DJ Hord will make a bigger splash than most people think this year. We'll have to see, but I think it's time that we finally see him doing what CW brought him here to do in his first recruiting class. No one has really been talking about Hord much, but I read a nice piece on him on Irish Eyes. I was really excited about him when he committed 3 years ago.

He's reportedly doing well in practice so far. Which is nice to see after he still looked a little tentative in the spring.

It sounded like Hord started off the first couple of practices a little slow, but is making a push with Parris for #3 WR. This is just what I have read from media blogs, nothing more.
