Let me just say I love how we have improved our D. But I do have one concern and that is WR. I think we need 2 for this class. CW needs to make some more magic!

Hey bubba, this thread belongs in the football recruits forum. :)

Not that I don't agree!

great I start a topic and it's in the wrong forum ! Oh boy

It was a good topic, and I appreciate it. But it should be in the right place. Mainly because some people look at this stuff at work, and the Shamrock Pub may have some things that co-workers shouldn't see or read. :)

I don't want to downplay the importance of good wide receivers, but it is only the end of June. I think the frenzy of the last couple days and the success of the recruiting season up until now have spoiled us, NSD isn't for 8 months. I think patience is in order here. Right now we are hot on the def side of the ball , the offensive player will show up.
Its possible that they are waiting to see what our offense looks like without BQ & Company and who the QB is going to be. It may also be that the "hot streak" of WR's committing has started yet, some years they go like domino's, but someone has to be the first one to go, and overall it just hasn't happened yet.
I think that we are in good shape with the receivers we are interest in, we just need to be patient, I'm sure CW is working on it.

I think that Goodwin, and a certain WR or two (and we know who), will get us close to where we need to be.

we have two coming in that are on campus that I honestly believe are going to be significant contributors and will kick some ass this year.

Not to mention I still have high hopes for Floyd and Baldwin

As do I, Jedi Master Marv.

I'm feeling positive about getting who we want at wr who wouldn't want to be part of this class

We just got EJ can we worry on Sundays?

It's June. We're not allowed to worry until December at the earliest. And I suspect by then any reason to worry will be long gone.

The only concern for me is that others will commit and we will fill up so there maybe be a left out WR. But having a concern of filling up scholorships in June is a good concern to have.

There will be a schollie left for at least one or two top flight WR.

MUCH agreed. Just turn back the clock to the days of Tyrone if you want some perspective on the severity of this "concern".

We'll have at least two WR long before the scholarships fill up. There is still room in this class and not too many other positions seriously in play or too many others on the verge of commitment. Then again, last week EJ looked like a long hard fight, Slaughter was going to decide in August and Brown wasn't going to visit until the USC game.

Well, the reason some of us are worrying is that it is not common for us to have so many eggs in only 3 baskets...err all 3 eggs in one basket in June. Anyways, Butler, Floyd and Baldwin are really the only 3 we are really into right now. Hopefully we get a commit from Floyd. Butler seems out of the running, and Baldwin is promising. Getting 1 of them to go with Goodman would be a decent year at WR. Getting 2 of them with Goodman would be amazing. If we got JG, MF and JB and you were a top 10 WR in the class of 2009, might you be a bit discouraged about PT early? The point is, if we get 2, we'll get another great 2 next year. 2 top 10 WRs per year is fine with me.

Worst case scenario, we miss on all 3. Does a WR emerge as late talent a la Dever during his senior year? Plus, Jeremy Brown looks promising and if you watched his WR video, he can make great catches.

It's all good.

Don't forget Brown as a potential WR egg. That's four guys to fill up two spots, with us being a rumored strong lead for the best of them. And with one four star egg who Michigan and Florida wanted already in the basket. Not to mention-again-it's June. If one or two guys drop off this summer, there is time to look around. As quickly as this thing is filling up, they still have until February to find these guys.

Folks,
We have three potentially good WR coming in this fall. Two are recruited as WR and one I believe will be moved there with the recruitment of Blanton and Slaughter. Harrison Smith is an exceptional talent and looks awesome at WR on his highlights. He can flat out fly and has size. Don't be surprized if Charlie makes a move with him.

I hadnt heard of H. Smith moving to receiver at all. I thought he was the next big thing at safety. Has anyone else heard anything about the move?

I see Smith as a safety.

No way is H. Smith moving to WR IMO.

i don't see this happening EVER. smith is fast and hard-hitting. what justification would there be to moving him to WR?

IrishCalves

Only reason you do that is if everyone else there is crapping their pant leg or injured. Otherwise, let the talent in the secondary keep on rolling.

stonebreakerwasgod

I could see him only going to WR in the event of injury, or in the event he is head and tails better than anyone there. I just don't see that being the case.

Way back when, CW had to assure Harrison he wouldn't be brought in for the former "Apache" LB spot. He's a hell of an athlete (see him winning the state track decathlon after only a month of training) that is going to be a damn good safety at ND.

Our D is going to get us back to where we belong, # 1. What CW/CB are building is going to take speed, talent, and depth. Also termed.....next man up. Our WR corp is not the best right now, but it will do the job until we get some studs in there, or our current crop fully developed.

I've heard that he has so much athletic ability they'll do anything to get him on the field.
