They're all seniors or 5th years, so that's nice. Can't argue at all with Crum or Bruton. But, just to stir up some discussion, what does everyone think of Grimes as offensive captain, I know a lot of people around here consider him to be a 2nd or 3rd receiver, so how easy is it to be a leader in that situation? Part of me thinks it's great, part of me wished Sam Young was identified as a captain. He has vocally admitted that he wishes to be a leader...maybe his teammates want to see some on-the-field production first. Or maybe they just wanted to give the C to a Sr.

I think that it speaks to his dedication to the team and the program. He probably could have transfered and got more playing time elsewhere. And honestly, until Sam shows it on the field on a constant basis. He's not the captain!!!

I never understood the notion that the captain must always be the best senior players on the team. During high school the best captains on my track team were two seniors who were the worst runners.

For all we know Grimes probably is the most vocal with the team away from the media.

However i do agree it should go to a senior member unless all the seniors lack the leadership or respect from the underclassmen.

I' don't mind that Grimes is a captain. I am actually not sure who else would deserve it more on the offense.

I was a 2nd/3rd receiver my senior year and I was captain for a game and the receiver captain on the team. Overall team captain for ND is slightly more prestigious than that, but I can relate to this in a way. It is more about the respect the rst of the team has for what you say and the way you approach everyday. That is what being a captain is about IMO.

The captain should be the player most respected. Generally it is an older guy, one of the best (if not the best)....but not always. It has got to be somebody who can lead, regardless of skill.
