Possible New Commits?

We avoided this whole discussion yesterday because even though the original source of the rumor is pretty reliable, it was apparent from his post that there would be no answer yesterday as the recruit in question (if there actually is one) was supposed to have just told CW about his committment and was going to leave it at that. There is still no concrete information to support whether we will see #16 in the next few days, but there is some more teaser information from a different and also usually reliable source that it is not McCarthy, but someone better. I'd say that is quite a tease.

Let the speculation begin!

If I had to guess from the names floating out there, and its not McCarthy, I would guess its Slaughter. Hale seems a stretch, I thought we were out of the picture for him.

That's for sure. I have not done a single thing today. The guy on DD seems awfully sure of himself on Hale, I hope for his sake he is right. Anytime you come right out and say that somebody has committed you better be sure of yourself. Is Hale even in South Bend or not, some people say no, the DD guy says he is for sure. I have not seen Hale's name mentioned anywhere except by the DD guy which then spread to Irish Envy.

Either way Slaughter or Hale, I'll be thrilled as long as it's at least one of them after all this. We shall see.

Agreed. Corwin may be doing the grunt work with defensive recruits, but Charlie knocked on his HS's door to say "Hey." Everyone is in it together. There is no "i" in recru... wait.

If we hadn't seen the Omar Hunter against all odds verbal, this thing wouldn't be nearly as exciting. I mean the kid was a lifelong fan, had UM as the leader for the longest time, and all it took was one visit to knock him on his rump and turn him to Irish. Anything is possible at this point... well, anything with the exception of guys that have crossed us off their list.

I'll keep my fingers crossed, but I'd get pretty blue in the face if I held my breathe on this one.

And no, Slaughter made no plans of coming to South Bend. Money appeared tight, so I doubt he'd show up to pull the trigger, let alone an impromptu visit.

Even if McCarthy, Slaughter, Hale and Johnson all verballed we would most likely turn our eyes to the defensive recruits of 09 with the same intensity.

The message boards are out of control. One just had a virtual meltdown, and then you have B&G playing their April Fool's games again, not particularly funny. The guy on DD who started, and as of this moment, is the only one on the Hale thing has really put himself out on a limb if he is incorrect. The Slaughter commit seems to be more likely at this point, in fact, in midstream the DD/Hale guy said that Slaughter has definitely committed, but that may be to cover his ass, who knows. However, even the Slaughter story does not tie into the original rumor that started this whole mess. Maybe we'll get an answer later, maybe not, and although I'd love to see a DH, I don't think it was ever in the cards. I'd be very happy just to post a Slaughter commit announcement, but for now we all just have to sit and wait.

The reason why I'm asking is that all Leppy did was confirm that the guy who originally started the Hale thing on DD eventually posted that Hale was definitely on campus today as well. I'm not saying that the DD guy is wrong about any of this, I hope he is right, but no one in any way, shape, or form that I have seen has verified what this guy is saying. The Slaughter story line is more convincing with more than one original source supporting it, but as I said before, it too has holes. Crazy day all around. I guess I might as well give up trying to get something done today.

Also as far as I know Leppy's attribution to this DD guy as being the one that broke the Armando Allen verbal is not correct. I could be wrong about that, but Leppy has not answered my question as to where he got that info from.

The last I heard is that even with 15 commits that the staff is still looking for 5 LB's. IMO, a Hale commit would probably eliminate Sabino, but in the short term at least Filer would still have a slot. However, since Hale projects as an OLB, he may indeed be the last LB if they feel they have a really good shot at Ethan Johnson who would complement the OLB's (Hale & Fleming in this case) as the best DL speed rusher in this recruiting class.

At the end of the day it is all going to depend on how many total slots are available, but it would seem that a possible Hale commit would probably force Filer to either commit to ND, or drop us from contention.

OK. I am up to speed now. I bumped around all sites and for the life of me, I cannot believe how dead uhnd.com is. Goldhelmet is the #1 site and if the Hale / Slaughter story is true (which I am thinking it most likely is) domerdomain stock is up and that site moves to #2.

Looks like the mystery of the potential possible commit will stretch into another day at least, but it is starting to point away from Slaughter, and I'm still not sure it ever pointed to Hale. At this point I guess if there really is an imminent #16, it could be just about anyone with an Offer. As someone once said, the ND campus on a camp week is like the Bermuda Triangle.

Svo I don't know if this is your creation, but kudos to you for taking the time to put together all the roster/stats etc. This certainly seems to have all the positive attributes of both IE and DD especially since it seems to be the meeting of the most informed/articulate posters from both sites (I am a long time reader of pretty much anything written about ND football, but short on postings since I have no real inside knowlege to offer). So keep up the good work with the site, it's a great addition to the ND-continent (have to one-up nation).
