To Kurt's parents: If you are still lurking on the site, please drop me an email at webmaster@goldhelmet.com again. I lost the last email and I have the address you need to submit recruiting tapes to Notre Dame.

Kurt's sophomore highlights. Believe he had 102 tackles and started varsity.

Well obviously he has a great frame and some real good speed. And if he posted 103 tackles as a sophmore I think it would be pretty hard not to hear about him. Everytime I see a defense player from Texas I just hesitate to get to excited about him coming to South Bend. Hopefully the Staff can get on him early!

Thank you. I have to admit I am in a learning mode when it comes to Notre Dame. I am from Texas and I know quite a few kids down here in the 2009,'10, and '11 classes. We don't hear much about the Irish except what comes through the national media. It's almost as if the kids here don't approach Notre Dame and that Notre Dame doesn't approach the kids here. Once again let me preface that in saying I don't know much about the recruiting history for the Irish. I appreciate everyone's patience and sharing of their knowledge.

Not a problem. Texas is certainly a base where ND would love to establish roots in terms of recruiting and gaining relationships. It's a state rich with tradition, great H.S. Football and a wealth of talent.

Once again, thanks for registering with the site.

I'll check back often. If there are any kids here in Texas that you would like to know about I can get some info normally. Just let me know.

On the und.com site it lists the phone number to the football office.

If you know of a high school student-athlete who might want to attend the University of Note Dame, we encourage you to call the appropriate coach, as this is the only permissible recruiting activity for boosters.

Pete,
Thank you! I will spread the word here with the kids I know. I will admit the response on this board is pretty impressive. There are other schools recruiting the talent here but I couldnt get any information for their fan base. Thanks guys.

Our last Heisman winner was a Texan. We'd sure love to have another one some day.

There's a lot of talent here in Texas that just isn't familiar with Notre Dame and it's heritage. Do the coaches visit/target this area?

Sure. They recruit there. How hard is the quesiton. One of our probable starting OL this year is Chris Stewart from Klein, TX. His upside is huge...as is his rear end. Most of us are looking forward to watching him this year.

Senior OLB Kevin Washington is from Sugarland, TX. He probably won't play much.

We signed one kid last year out of TX. DE Kapron Lewis-Moore, from Weatherford.

Since 2000, we've had 11 kids come in recruiting classes from Texas. It is tied with Ohio at 6th on the list of states providing talent to our team.

And those players since 2000:

2000 Bible, Garron S 5-11 190 Klingwood (Klingwood, TX)
2000 Curry, Derek LB 6-3 235 Sealy (Sealy, TX)
2000 Duff, Vontez CB 5-11 180 Copperas Cove (Copperas Cove, TX)
2000 Holiday, Carlyle QB 6-3 215 Roosevelt (San Antonio, TX)
2000 Jenkins, Omar WR 6-3 190 Jesuit (Dallas, TX)
2002 Leitko, Travis DE 6-5 265 Woodlands (The Woodlands, TX)
2002 Morton, Bob OG 6-4 294 McKinney (McKinney, TX)
2003 Price, Geoffrey P 6-3 180 Heritage School (Colleyville, TX)
2005 Washington, Kevin LB 6-1 215 Austin (Sugar Land, TX)
2006 Stewart, Chris OG 6-5 340 Klein (Klein, TX)

Say what you want about Bob Davie, but he had a lot of connections in Texas from his days at TAMU and recruited the state pretty well.

We're trying to recruit Texas, it's just hard to convince a kid to come North.

In 2008, we offered like 7-8 kids and got one. In 2007, we sent 6 offers out to Texans and went down swinging. The same in '06 (6 offered) and got one -- OL Chris Stewart. 2005 was the same and we got LB Kevin Washington. So with like 25 offers since '05, we've got 3 commitments.

This year we've offered 13 kids from Texas. We'll see how it plays out, but we'll probably just get ONE -- K Nic Tausch. Texas has not been kind to us.

The key to Texas is getting in early. It is with most talent but a lot of kids by the time they are juniors have already been courted by quite a few colleges. I know that Seastrunk, Perry, Killens, Calhoun, Onwukaife, and several others are hearing significantly from a number of schools.

I agree. And I think the key to is to recruit kids at positions that Texas has filled up at like the WR Nwachukwu. Some of those kids we have ZERO shot at because Texas will always be there early.

Good point Elite. Texas will make most of their offers within the first junior day after national signing day. That means they normally land at least half of their class within the first 2 weeks of Feb. But if Nortre Dame made a push to educate the Texas kids about the value of every game on national television and the value of an Irish education it might make a difference.

Absolutly. Heck look at their class this year.. there are basically already done. So for ND to get a kid to delay his decision enough to take an offical visit to ND in the fall of their senior year they will have to get in early. And trying to create some type of a pipeline from a highschool. It doesnt have to be an elite higschool... but just start buliding that long term relationship.

ND seems to be one of the few Big programs left that hasn't conceded Texas. It seems that Stoops, Mack Brown, and Les Miles have owned Texas recently. But I think the upcoming ASU series to be played in Jerry Jones new playground was put together to increase ND's presence in Texas.

That is a good idea. The more presence here the better the chances of recruiting. If a kid knows he is wanted at other schools they will not always be locks for those 3.

Dayton,
Will do. He has 26 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in his first 2 games. They are 2-0 going into a tough contest on Thursday.

There is also a running back that is 5'10" 220 on his team named Adrian Smith that is getting a lot of letters from ND as well. He runs down his and is a load of bricks.

Is it just me or does this guy have a way of sidestepping bodies, yet he takes the most direct line to the ball. Stays at home. Great attacking type of player!!!

Not sure what happened here but Kurt is no longer listed as a Houston Verbal. In fact he is not even listed as having a Houston offer now.
