The Alief Relays is a traditional annual high school track meet on the west side of Houston, attracting a plethora 5-A (largest class) schools from the area, including Cy-Fair (Sam McGuffie) from the northwest of Houston

McGuffie was the meet MVP. He won the 110m high hurdle finals in 14.5 seconds ... also won the high jump -- 6-4 ... also won the long jump ... 23-3.

... 5-11, 190 pounder's speed and power (he's heavily-muscled and broad shouldered -- no 'skinny track guy') ...

McGuffie also ran for the Cy-Fair 400 and 800 meter relay teams.

When is he going to commit to Texas? You know its coming.

BGIF

Have they offered? They already have a couple of RB verbals.

McGuffie's HS coach is an Aggie and I read somewhere McGuffie's father has a connection to Michigan.

I think Texas hasn't offered yet. But I don't see how they could pass on him. He seems to go to not offer.

Texas is not going to offer. They have offered and received commitments from two running backs already, Tre Newton and Ryan Roberson.

I have read that as well. I know he has family in Michigan still. I think ND is currently in the bottom of his top 5/6.

I'd rather have him stay in Texas if he's not coming to SB.

In the who cares anyway category except for the fact that it may be more bad news for scUM fans, McGuffie has delayed his July 15 decision announcement at which scUM fans were all a flutter that he would select Michigan. Seems that A&M is back in the running here.

Stay in Texas, Flying Burrito, you do not want any parts of the ND defense you would have to face at scUM for 4 years.

Oh and I may go off the deep end if McGuffie has one of those hat ceremonies at his announcement and there is an ND hat on the table. The thought of an ND hat being around McGuffie while he announces no doubt to some kind of rap media circus would actually make me physically ill. Keep it real Sammie boy.

I would say that is pretty strong confirmation coming from a guy who was willing to bet part of his anatomy that Sweat would not end up at ND.:)

Seriously though, anything is possible right up to NSD, but I think I can say with some degree of certainty that McGuffie is not the MF surprise.

Also, before we go off on another Flying Burrito tangent, let me try to pre-emptively cut off any possible link between McGuffie and the rumors of a potential surprise commit that are swirling on the Rivals boards today. McGuffie's name being connected to that rumor is even more far-fetched than linking him to the MF surprise. In fact, from what I have heard about the Rivals rumors, if anything they tend to substantiate the opinion that McGuffie is not connected in any way to the MF surprise.

Has McGuffie been in recent contact with the ND coaches? Probably. He was expected to commit to Michigan later this week but has pulled back on that. One of the likely reasons for that is McGuffie is seeing that scUM is getting smoked by both ND & OSU on the recruiting front, which would naturally cause some hesitation in a recruit with Sam's personality. So it is highly probable that McGuffie contacted the ND staff to see if there was any interest. It is also highly probable that he was told there is none. If ND is going to take any RB this year, logically you would expect them to take a guy that is more of a pure 25-30 carry RB than the Flying Burrito. Williams, Gray, and Thomas all fit that mold better than McGuffie. I do not see them giving away one of the limited slots that are now available to a guy whose career may end the first time he tries to hurdle a 6'3" 250 lb. Linebacker who is almost as fast as him and just as athletic. McGuffie would have been an ND recruit if he had committed a month ago, but this train has now left the Flying Burrito station, even if he wanted to pay to get on board.

That's good to know about CT. We get so very little info on him that I am sure that is the first a lot of us have heard about him in that regard.

What's ironic is that you must know that it is exactly McGuffie's attitude that is the reason why he is one of the least liked ND offered recruits on the ND message boards, notwithstanding DD where he seems to be somewhat of a pet.

The Houston Chronicle reports that ESPN 150 running back Sam McGuffie will make his announcement Sunday and is still considering five schools; Texas A&M, Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, and Florida. Previous reports has suggested that McGuffie was down to just the Wolverines and the Aggies.

If you watch the show try not to get physically sick if the Burrito tries the Mexican Hat Dance with an ND hat involved, or better yet make a pre-emptive strike and go down to KPRC, and remove anything remotely associated with ND. He'll probably be playing in the game against the All Gold Helmet team later this 'virtual' season. Wonder if he will try the leap? Wonder what would happen????

The Burrito leaps. Ethan Johnson grabs one leg. Omar Hunter grabs another. And the other Tom Beaver Michigan lock-Steve Filer jumps to meet him head one. While the two big uglies make a wish, the flying LB plants the flying burrito into the fake Michigan turf.

If this youngster is going to base his future on attire...then I do not feel he is quite the loss to our program. Too bad though, I really liked that he could eventually contribute.

so can Ryan Williams or Carlton Thomas. The one good thing about taking only 1 RB with so many talented offers is if we get one, he's going to be a good one. If we miss, who cares, we have lots of talent already

Believe it or not some kids are swayed by things like that. No knock on them, it's just the way it is. By just checking out the high caliber of character, values and skilled players we've gotten it is difficult to get upset at some one who chose a school for something silly as a jersey number. But I do wish him the best in health and academics but against the Irish I am believing he will be thoroughly dominated.

We have a stocked class and we will get more high level players to fill in spots that we need. I am excited about this class and the future prospects thereof...

Let's go Irish!!!

No difficulty where none is required. Nor hate directed. Just an observation is all. As I have quite often stated, while these young men have pretty much been groomed for an eventual commit, they are still very impressionable. I do wish him well...and hope the #27 fits.

And ziggy... "so can Ryan Williams or Carlton Thomas. The one good thing about taking only 1 RB with so many talented offers is if we get one, he's going to be a good one. If we miss, who cares, we have lots of talent already"...my thoughts exactly

His coach, or whoever that was standing next to him, said that Sam was the most popular recruit in the state of Texas since Vince Young. Well, no more since he went on local television to dis his homestate team (A&M) and announce for Michigan.

The sports announcer kept asking Sam about A&M, which makes sense since this was a local Texas news broadcast, but Sam keeps trying to avoid talking about them.

Sam McGuffie, Boubacar Cissoko could be heading elsewhere
Michigan commits, running back Sam McGuffie and cornerback Boubacar Cissoko, are two pledges that the Wolverines could possibly lose as a result of former head coach Lloyd Carr's resignation, the Michigan Daily reports.

McGuffie did not sign his LOI today. He is said to be considering California after a trip there last weekend. No surprise however that he told the scUM staff yesterday that he would be signing his LOI today, and today changed his mind. I guess DickRod did not believe him anyway as he poached RB Michael Shaw from PSU, and possibly withdrew the Burrito's offer.

Yep, late last night the Burrito caved, allegedly because DickRod said send it in before midnight or don't bother.

Also, Kenny Demens finally sent his LOI to scUM as well.

There was something not good that happened to McGuffie. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was something like his brother went missing for a long time... In any event, my understanding is that he went through a bunch of difficult crap that was probably pretty tough to deal with, let alone when you're way the hell away from home.
