After a merry go round generated by one ND message board poster, the facts on Hale are now out, and they are not pretty for ND.
1) Hale was not at ND yesterday. He did not want to bother to visit places that he was not really interested in.
2) Therefore, Hale's Final 4 does not include ND. They are scUM, pOSU, WVU, and Virginia. Let's go Cavaliers.
Link to the facts, just the facts ma'am.
Hale crosses ND & Pitt off his list (http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/sittingringside/)

Thanx Bill, Filer would ease my pain somewhat. Although I never thought we were truly in the running, but it would have been nice. Especially after all the hubbub yesterday.

One piece of slightly good news in the article is that Hale is looking for a package deal for him and his teammate. OSU has not offered the buddy yet, so the OSU lock for Hale is not set in concrete. It should be interesting to see if the Bucknuts respond to this with an offer to the buddy, but you have to believe that Hale and/or his coach have already advised McSweaterVest of this, and even Cheaty might have too much integrity to be held hostage by a recruit. Consequently, WVU & Virginia may have a shot here, but you have to think the odds are that if Hale eschews OSU or vice versa, that he would probably end up scUM.

Yes, but I hope he does not meet the same fate. Anyway, weis19 is a man of many faces already so adding Tessio to the list won't hurt him any.

Hale may be really serious about the package deal for his teammate who also happens to be his cousin. A Bucknut recruiting site tried to imply that Hale might go his own way, which is important to OSU because they are the only school among Hale's Final 4 who have not offered the cousin. However, Hale's comments did not seem to indicate that he was wavering all that much on the package deal, and it seems like a real possibility that McSweaterVest may have to waste a schollie in order to have a definite shot at Hale, who many Bucknut fans have counted on all along as pretty much a sure thing.

How good is his cousin? Is he worth a offer?

The cousin's name is Cameron Saddler, and if you mean by ND, I'm not sure that he qualifies academically, and he is way too small (5'6", 157 lbs.) for what ND is looking for in recruits. He is however very fast (4.4 40), and is listed as an Athlete by Rivals. His size and speed is similar to Jarred Holley who ND did not offer even though he was a probable commit.
Saddler has also cut his list to 4 schools, coincidentally of which 3 are the same as Hale's Final 4, scUM, WVU, & Virginia. OSU since they have not offered are obviously not in Saddler's Final 4. Sadler's 4th school is Syracuse, and his other offers are from Pitt, Akron, Purdue, and MSU. Of the three schools that offered both, Saddler might not have normally received an offer from scUM only, so they are probably the only one that you might classify as wasting an offer on the cousin to get to Shayne. I think these guys might be serious about this and OSU may end up on the outside looking in. Right now the Mountaineers may have a really solid shot at Hale because of this situation. If that happens Hale would be the biggest D recruit that WVU has seen in a long time.

Buckeyeland thinks that Saddler really likes UVA and WVU, and that Hale is leaning towards the Big 10 schools on his list. Honestly though, its a crap shoot at this point. I'd love for them to end up in the ACC or the Big East, so I don't have to listen to UM flamers. From an ND fan's POV, don't see much need to pay attention until the kid verbals - its obvious this one is over.

Gateway duo Hale and Saddler skip Michigan trip
Inside linebacker Shayne Hale and athlete Cameron Saddler cancelled their scheduled official visits to Michigan last week, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Saddler said of their decision, "We just don't think it's the best situation for either of us." West Virginia and Virginia appear to be the favorites for the Gateway teammates.

Not sure if this really belongs in the Shayne Hale thread, but for some of you in Pittsburgh - this Central Catholic - Gateway game for the WPIAL AAAA Championship was written up as one of the best prep games ever.
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07330/836794-365.stm
In addition, there was an annual review of the best local talent in the country. We made Baldwin's final four on Thanksgiving, but jokingly got dropped by Friday.
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07326/835913-365.stm
I'm not sure why a Dorian Bell ('09) thread hasn't been created, but he's been offered by everyone locally, has 120 tackles and 11 sacks, and played so well at SLB that they moved Hale to DE. He's listed as a Scout 2009 5-star (only 10) and at least has indicated ND on his initial list. With how well ND has done in this community in recruiting, I'd be amazed if we didn't offer this kid.

Hale and Saddler will be making a joint announcement next Wednesday at Gateway HS. It will be one of the shocks of the recruiting season if they do not announce for the same school. scUM is out of it, and it looks like the Buckeyes are dead for sure as well since they never offered Saddler. Saddler has announced that his Final three are WVU, Virginia, and Pitt, but Pitt is not on Hale's radar, so Saddler is just listing them as a courtesy. So, as stated before this is a WVU/Virginia battle, and surprisingly Hale may be letting his cousin drive the bus on this one as to who they decide on. If it was Hale's call I would go with WVU, but now I would not be surprised if it was either one.

Interesting news on Hale. Apparently he backed out of the joint news conference tonight with his cousin Cameron Saddler, who selected Pitt. This probably means that Hale is now going separate ways from his cousin after all this time, and may put OSU back in the picture for him.

Oh, yea. I have breaking news:
This just in, TAA is reporting that there has been a Shayne Hale sighting on the ND campus. His "sources" tell him that they are absolutely sure that they saw Hale talking to CW (never mind that CW is on his way to Richmond right now) and kissing one of his Super Bowl rings while begging CW to make room for him on the ND 2008 bus.
Hold on, more breaking news coming from the man.
What's that TAA, Sabino finally stopped at the ND campus on his way to Chicago from Columbus to commit as well. He and Hale are both standing with Charlie as we speak. Film at 11, can't wait to see it.;)
Sorry, couldn't help myself. The two days of the Hale and Sabino bogus stories were some of the most fun I had all year.
For those of you who were not around when all of that happened, all of the above is a satire of some earlier events from the recruiting season, so don't take any of this post seriously.

OSU did get back in the picture for Hale, who visited Columbus this past weekend. However, the buzz from that visit was not all that pro-Buckeye. As for Hale separating from cuz, it appears that the separation may have been very short term as Hale is all of a sudden planning to make an Official Visit to Pitt this weekend, a school that he had not been considering for more than three months. Most of the news seems to indicate that this is now a OSU/Pitt battle, with Pitt definitely having the momentum, creating the very real possibility that Pitt will end up with 4 of the best 6 players in the WPIAL.

VA is definitely out, WVU is still on the periphery, but I am also getting the impression that OSU is also on the periphery as well.
BTW, even if OSU gets Hale, it appears that he is unlikely to play LB for them. Rivals now has him listed as a Strongside DE, and based on his senior season, where he was somewhat of a disappointment at the LB position, that may end up being his position in college, and I would say it would almost certainly be the case at OSU. Size and speed appear to be the determining factors for the position switch here, too much of one, and not enough of the other.
Anyway, forget about OSU's recruiting haul for a second, if he ends up at Pitt have you seen what they have done in the past week alone. Check out the spotlight in a few minutes and you will see more on this.

from what ive heard, he played def end a lot but the opposing teams always ran away from him, so they put him back at LB so he could roam. i saw their title game and he was all over the field making big hits.

Did not see the game but that is pretty much what I heard as well. He could possibly play MLB in a certain scheme because he is such a big hitter, but the knock on him that I am hearing is that although he is a big hitter, he often does not get there in time to make the hit. Take all of this FWIW because it is all second hand, I have not paid much attention to Hale for awhile until just recently, and I am only now because of the relatively weird way that his recruiting is progressing.

From the Pittsburgh Post - Gazette (12/17). I'd have to say this would be a major victory for Pitt if they kept Saddler's cousin and would certainly make Dorian Bell's 09 recruitment an interesting one.
Gateway linebacker Shayne Hale also was considering West Virginia, but said the Mountaineers are no longer on his list. He visited West Virginia the weekend of the loss to Pitt.
"I was still considering West Virginia, so this is a big shocker," Hale said. "Personally, I didn't expect him to be leaving. He was telling everyone that he was going to be there for a while and that he wasn't going anywhere. This makes him look like he lied."
Pitt has come on strong in Hale's eyes the past few weeks and he made an official visit to Pitt this past weekend.
"It went real well," Hale said.
Hale also visited Ohio State last weekend and said he will choose between Pitt and Ohio State.
Hale will play in the Army All-American Bowl Jan. 5 in San Antonio and will announce his decision there.

never saw a guy get so much credit for another coach's choke job. If you can't tell I'm a bitter bear fan, and I have a shit opinion of Wannie to be honest, so my opinion is very biased, but I just don't see a good head coach out of Wannie, so he may get a great recruiting class, but I still don't see him taking Pitt to the top of the big east.
He's a very good defensive coach, but a crappy head coach (sound familiar?) I hope I'm wrong, because I want to see Baldwin do well, but I just don't see Pitt being a threat to take over the big east. Been at Pitt for 3 years and hasn't done better than finish .500. No idea what he is selling at Pitt to get kids to keep coming there.
