Linsley was thought to be an OSU lock (yes Buck I know he will probably still end up a Buckeye:aggressive:) until he took a trip to Stanford, which has suddenly made him decide to hold back a bit on his commitment, and look around some more. All of the schools listed in his Schools of Interest have offered except ND.
He has now sent film to ND and will most likely get an Irish offer eventually. Rivals now lists him with “High Interest” for both OSU & Stanford. The Buckeyes are probably still the leader here, as they are also still most likely the leader for Watt, which means if they get both, they would land two of the highest rated OG’s in this class. Now that it appears Linsley will at least look around, ND needs to offer him quickly, and hopefully manage to grab one of the Watt/Linsley combination away from OSU.

The Place to Be  (http://recruiting.scout.com/2/744641.html)
Corey Linsley continues to strongly favor Ohio State. "I'm an Ohio kid and that's the place to be when you're growing up," Linsley said. "Everyone from Ohio wants to go there. Columbus is a great city. I love the team atmosphere that coach Jim Tressel produces there. I love how they are all about team and working together. I like all the coaches and their style..."
Corey Linsley, the 6-foot-4, 285pound three-star offensive guard from Boardman, Ohio, says he has 18 scholarship offers, but one school continues to stand out above the rest - Ohio State.
"I'm an Ohio kid and that's the place to be when you're growing up," he said. "Everyone from Ohio wants to go there. Columbus is a great city."
Linsley attended a junior day there already and says the Buckeyes are about two and half hours from his house. "I love the team atmosphere that coach Jim Tressel produces there," he said. "I love how they are all about team and working together. I like all the coaches and their style."
He says his mom would like him to be a Buckeye. "My dad isn't really biased towards a school, but my mom wants me to go to Ohio State," he said. "I have cousins in Columbus and she wouldn't worry so much. It would be like a home away from home."
Ohio State still leads solidly over Illinois, Pittsburgh, Stanford and Notre Dame and all but the Irish have offered. "They are really the only school that I'm looking at that hasn't offered yet," he said. "It's like a combo of Ohio State and Stanford at Notre Dame. They have great tradition like Ohio State and great academics like Stanford. I talk to their coaches a lot and they asked me to send them some film. I'm in the process of doing that now and getting it out to them soon."
Stanford is another school that Linsley has already visited that he's seriously considering. "I'm extremely interested in them, but they are a little far," he admitted. "I wouldn't have anyone out there and I'd be totally out on my own.
"I love it out in Palo Alto," he said. "It was a blast. I was there with my dad and brother and they had a great time too. The people there are really open and welcoming. That's the only school I've been to without an indoor practice facility. That seems strange to me, but they don't need one because the weather is always so good. The campus is beautiful there and it's just an amazing place. I love how laid back it is."
Linsley admits he's especially excited to see how Stanford and Notre Dame fare in 2008. "They are both up-and-coming programs and I'm really excited to see how they both do," he said. "Stanford Coach Jim Harbaugh is doing a great job and they are building something really special there."
Although Linsley says he doesn't plan to make an early decision, he admits it might be difficult. "It's gonna be tough not to commit, especially because I like Ohio State so much," he said. "But I don't plan to do it early. I want to wait until December or just before the new year."
He says he may possibly attend the Under Armour Scout.com camp on May 17 in Cincinnati. He already attended a junior day at Pittsburgh and visited Illinois unofficially as well.
"The best thing about Pittsburgh is the coaches," he said. "The were all very personable and were some of the best coaches I've ever met. The took time with me one-on-one and showed me a lot of interest.
"The Illinois coaches were great too and they actually reminded me a lot of my high school coaches," he said. "They breed toughness down there and I like that. They are getting new facilities too and will be building a whole new weight room which I think will be one of the largest in the country."
Linsley also throws the shot (57-7) and plans to participate in both sports in college. "Stanford and Ohio State have both already told me I could throw shot too," he said.
"My best strength is my intensity coming off the ball," he said. "I'm quick off the line and I'm also real intense.
"I want to work on my pass blocking and try to get faster and improve my footwork," he said.
Linsley says he can bench an astonishing 415 pounds and squat 585. He has a 25-inch vertical jump and runs a 5.2 forty.
He reports a 3.3 core GPA, an 1800 SAT and a 25 ACT.
From the Golf Cart Tour writer (Allen Wallace) on Scout. It sounds like Linsley is still a Buckeye in all but the actual verbal, but you can tell the Stanford trip made a distinct impression on him as to what kind of college education he is looking for, thus the sudden interest in ND.

He is as strong as an ox and very smart (see his ACT and SATs). Man i hope the staff has a good plan for this guy if he truly is available for us to get. Sounds like we have a small window of opportunity here.

Most Ohio State insiders say he'll end his recruitment sooner rather than later.
Take it for what it's worth.
Linsley is very good IMO. Just a complete mauler. Needs to add some bulk, but the work ethic, intelligence, and frame are all there. He should end up around the 100-200 range IMO when it's all said and done.

With the Irish offer, Linsley has put ND immediately into his Top 3, along with Ohio State and Stanford.
The mere fact that he is listing Stanford and ND in his Top 3 shows that Corey contemplates placing a very high value on his education. Just how high he intends to place that value will ultimately determine whether he selects either Stanford or ND over tUOS.
Corey is planning on making an unofficial visit to South Bend later this spring.

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't go to OSU.

If he is such a strong OSU en why hasn't he committed. I'm with IUB on this one. Not saying he won't go to HTU. But the more he looks around the more doubt he must have in what school to go too.

i fall in on this every time- i believe what the kids say that they are really looking at the other schools, not just HSU. I give him the benefit of the statement and hope CW has a plan to get him here.

There is no question that Linsley has definitely taken the academic aspect to heart, so I have no doubt that he is seriously now considering ND & Stanford. The proof to that is that the Buckeye faithful fully expected him to commit as soon as he returned from his Stanford trip. That did not happen because the Stanford trip obviously had an impact on Corey's recruiting mindset.
However, make no mistake about it, it would be a huge surprise and upset (as our friend Napoleonbuck would no doubt attest) if ND (or Stanford for that matter) were able to recruit an elite Ohio football player from a public school in Youngstown, OH.
ND has been pretty successful over the years in recruiting in Ohio, but the bulk of those recruits have come from Catholic schools in Cincinnati, and to a lesser extent Cleveland, Columbus and Youngstown. However, public schools from a Buckeye hot bed like Youngstown is a whole different story. In fact ND has only recruited one Youngstown public school kid in the last 40 years, and that was 33 years ago.
Maybe Linsley is different and will break the mold but it would still be a somewhat shocking turn of events if it were to happen.

IMO, I think this takes us out of the picture with Watt and makes you the clear leader. I thought you were the leader before, but I think it's cemented in stone now.
This gives us three interior linemen in this class with Mewhort, Linsley, and Boren. Hall is our biggie left, and he projects at left tackle IMO with the ability to play right and both guard positions.
I would love to have Watt in this class, and I'm sure the coaches would too, but I'm not sure he fits anymore. The Boren transfer really changed everything with regards to our o-line recruiting. He's probably going to be penciled into a starting spot starting next year.

Hope so, buck. Would really like to see Watt and Bullard join up soon.
Everyone else here had no trouble calling this one correct. Good on ya, mates.:encore:
