He's a good coach, and a good hire. Too bad Indiana won't have any returning starters next year.

Why the hell would he leave for IU, though? I can't believe they got Crean. Good for us as well. Hopefully Marquette suffers from it.

At the end of the day, IU is still IU no matter what the media or fans say. The lore, the banners and the history remain and that isn't there at Marquette.
This is a great hire for IU and this is a negative for other schools in Indiana as Crean has excellent contacts in the Indiana high school circuit and has always recruited Indiana hard. Now he'll be able to sell Indiana in these kids homes instead of Marquette. Scary thought if you're not a Hoosier fan.

With him at IU and Painter at Purdue (think that's how to spell his name). Brey and the Irish are going to have their hands full recruiting in Indiana.

Not to mention that, the guy knows how to recruit in Chicago too. I'm sure you guys have heard of a guy by the name of Dwayne Wade...

Except now they are IU that will get terrible sanctions and lost all of their starters. I'd take the security of having a good team almost every year of Marquette than rebuilding.

No way. If he rebuilds IU, do you know what kind of legacy he will make for himself? He'll be the second coming of Jesus.

I think it's a good hire for IU. He'll recruit and win the right way at IU, which is more than IU can say about Sampson (ethics) and Davis (coaching).

Sounds like a good hire- but he will hae his hands full w clean-up, possible sanctions and the crazy hoosier expectations. good luck to him. CBB is bertter when Indiana has a good, clean program.

I acutally think the Sanctions will give him a little breathing room with the IU faithful. If they are under sanctions (that aren't his fault) he'll buy himself a year.

Rebuilding in B-ball is entirely different than rebuilding in football. If he recruits just two guys in just one class who can play right away and do well then he can build off of that. Look at USC. Floyd got two decent guys. Started winning and made the tournament. Then he got a blue chipper and made the tournament again. Now he has a great class coming in and will probably make the tournament again next year. All he needed was one good class to get it going. There is only 15 kids as opposed to what 80+.
In football it may take numerous classes to get the team back to a consistant national title threat. While the coach is getting the players he needs they may stink for two-three years before you see some type of progress. (See Kansas) Why because depth matters way more in football than in basketball. Plus physical strength is more of an issue in football than basketball. I never seen a high school football player jump to the pros.
So I think Creen or whatever will get Indiana back and running quickly. The guy can recruit and now that he is at Indiana the Hoosiers will BE a problem for the rest of the country for years to come...

Plus you never heard nothing crazy coming out of the Marquette program when he was there. Good omen...
