Have we really not had a post on his profile since June? Anyways, There is some nice video of him up for free viewing on II. He is lined up at WR a good bit and moves like a receiver. He also looks to have some "nasty."
http://notredame.rivals.com/
I wonder when he will get his offer and what CW is waiting for? I thought this was a slam dunk. Is CW waiting to see if he is a top 2 TE in the country that we could offer?

There is a very good chance that Jake has already told CW that he is in as soon as he receives his offer. CW has reportedly told a few recruits already who were ready to commit that he wanted them to wait a bit to look around and make sure. In those instances and with Golic, CW will probably not tender the actual offer until he is sure they are 100% committed to ND. In the case of Jake Golic, he is probably already sure of it, but I would guess that they will wait until February, much like they did with Mike, to make the offer and the committment official.

Jake Golic reminds of the Stoneburner kid thats going to O$U...one of those hybrid TE/WR type guys, hes gonna need to hit the weight room before he lines up at TE for ND though, he's very lanky right now.
he shows some nice flashes of 'nasty' in the clips on rivals, and i really liek the way he not only blocks, but sticks with his blocks till the whistle...not sure of comp he plays up in CT, but he also looked quick and fast and had nice hands.

He looks really solid in his film highlights. I like how aggressively he blocks. The kid plays with an edge. Expect him to be Irish soon. I believe he will be more highly rated than his brother. He seems to have some nice skills. He will just need to bulk up a little. I think he should spend some time hanging with his Uncle Bob learning how to bulk up.

The thing here is that Jake has probably already given his commit so I think you are on safe ground here MS, but he might not be the first public commit. Remember that his dad offered to pay for Mike Jr. if the 2008 class filled completely up. That offer may now stand for Jake as well, especially with the lower amount of schollies for 2009. This is possibly the reason why Jake has not actually been offered yet as the staff may be waiting to see if they want to take up Mike Sr.'s offer this year. I am sure thay would prefer to give Jake the schollie as he is definitely entitled to it based on his ability, but in either case he will be on the ND football team in 2009 as a scholarship player or a preferred walk-on. My guess is that it will be as a schollie player, but you may not see that as early as we saw it with Mike Jr.

No doubt.:D
Seriously, Edsall offering Jake was just a courtesy to a top in-state kid and a signal that he will go after all of the in-state talent, (all two of them) ;) regardless of what he thinks his chances are.
Now, seriously again, CT actually does have quite a few D1 prospects for the 2009 class. For 2008 there was only six legitimate D1 guys and two of them, Kabongo & Meyers both almost ended up at Princeton. Mike Jr, goes to ND, the top guy in the state Torrey Mack ends up at UVA, and Edsall gets at least one with Erik Kuraczea and possibly two as McKoy will decide between joining Kabongo at Maryland or staying home with UConn.
2009 should see more prospects and I see CT football improving although it will probably never be a hotbed, but you never know. My Phiily High School boys are all of a sudden a hot commodity. RCHS alone had two D1 guys in 2008, including a R100 recruit, Nick Moody, and 2009 has an even stronger crop of Philly boys from RCHS, St. Joe's Prep, and Cardinal O'Hara among others. The Philadelphia area will never be the WPIAL, but it's definitely getting better, so maybe you'll see a Conard boy at ND some day as well.

Recap of Mike and Mike this morning:
Dad introduced a special guest as "Jacob" Golic. Called him Jake the rest of the way.
Dad said this one was huge because Mike Jr. was in Italy, so the whole family couldn't share it the way they did this time.
Dad said the biggest thing for him was getting to play with brother Greg, an OL, since Bob was much older. His sons will now get to play together as well.
Senior, Junior and Jake were all first verbals in their classes.
Jake said #1 motivation to get grades up was so that he could play with his older brother in college.
Dad says Jake is now up to 220 and working with a speed coach. Working hard in class and off the field.
Jake said "yes" to Charlie faster than you can say yes and the family had a group hug in the living room after the phone call ended.
Dad asked Jake on a scale of 1-10, how much TE knowledge had he given to him. Jake's response: "About a 3."

Profile Updated with latest Rivals, Scout, and ESPN rankings.
In what really is kind of a slap in the face of the Golic's, Rival has Jake as a 2 star and are not even ranking him at his position. If Jake remains a 2 star on Rivals, he would be the first position player Rivals 2 star in the CW era, and the first since Schwapp and Steve Quinn in the 2005 class.
Jake remains a 3 star on Scout, but they dropped him from the #17 to the #55 Tight End. His highest ranking is on ESPN who has him as the #34 Tight End. The ESPN/Scout guys were probably afraid to incur the wrath of Dad. :aggressive:

Lemming is no longer in charge of selections. Last year was his last I do believe; Rivals staffers took over this year I thought.

This is all Rivals now, they took over last year. Lemming should have nothing to do with it. His selection propably has to do with how well he did at the Jr. workout at last years game. He was supposed to be one of the best looking TE at that camp . As far as the star thing goes, might have something to do with the overall competion he faces. Maybe IUB or Sureal would comment on the overall talent level from there neck of the woods.

I'm glad someone else posted on this. I don't want to rain on one of our recruits, particularly a Golic but I couldn't believe he made the game. He is like 30-50 slots down on his position on both Rivals and Scout and it isn't like he is 1 or 2 on ESPN?! If I were a TE ranked above him, I'd be pissed and probably rightly so.
I guess, one upside is we will get to see how he looks against some good competiton and we get 1 more recruit to show up on TV.

The same thing goes on in Indiana. Morgan Newton should be a borderline five star. The 5A championship proved that. Kentucky got a steal. Zach Martin is also very underrated. Location definitely has an effect on the stars.
