If the momentum of the Purdue win carries over, I see a moderately high scoring game.

If not,

This should be a great game. I wouldnt underestimate Stanford. We looked really good against Purdue at time, but I really hope we can keep it going. I will have to check out some stats and stuff before I make any predictions. But I really see the Irish getting to 4-1.

Here's the LINK for the ND info above for the NCAA's Official Site

http://web1.ncaa.org/football/exec/rankingSummary?year=2008&org=513

I took the first two columns of the ND table "Team Rankings" and renamed the "National Rank" to "ND Rank". I copied and pasted the NCAA ND data into a spreadsheet and repeated that process for the NCAA Stanford data. If you look to the left side of the linked page at "Schedule and Results" go to "Stanford" and Click. It's a link to the Stanford NCAA page.

The columns marked "Actual" are the ND and SU NCAA Data for games played to date. For example, in the Category "Sacks", ND's DEFENSE is ranked 118th with 0.25 sacks per game which reflects 1 sack in 4 games. In "Sacks Allowed" ND's OFFENSE is 22nd averaging one sack per game for the 4 sacks given up in 4 games.

The NCAA presents the data based on number of games played as teams have open dates and have not all played the same number of games on a given date.

You can click on the dynamic links in my spreadsheet for the ranking of all 119 teams and the actual game data in that category. If you click on the NCAA link above you can see Team and Individual data for a lot more categories.

If you go back to the ND page you can check out game by game performance for Offense, Defense and Special Teams. By clicking on the opponent's name you can see how they did game by game as well. There's a lot of good stuff there.

Michelle Smith, Chronicle Staff Writer

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/10/01/SPL7138OOQ.DTL

TB Gerhart continues to recover from his concussion last week and Harbaugh expects him to be available. WR Richard Sherman has a knee injury and will not make the trip.

Sherman caught 73 passes the past 2 season and was leading the team with 8 this year through 4 games. His backup Ryan Whalen caught 7 passes for 76 yds in their shootout last week with UW.

Their offensive line is getting away with murder. On that last play, I counted two different lineman that were BLATANTLY holding... it's one thing to grab a little jersey outside of the shoulder pads, but the right guard was basicly taking his jersey off.

Haden
Saying the field judge came in to call burton's pick as an incomplete pass - WRONG
Saying Hughes was short on the 4th down conversion, before the ball had even been spotted - WRONG
Jimmy CARSON - Seriously come on, do we even have a Carson
Hammond
Every play that doesn't get the 1st is always spoken as "____ yards short of the first down", not as gained 4 yards, always so many short
Both tipped balls were "near interceptions", seems to be trying to sensationalize the play to the negative

Indeed. Both times, I didn't think it was a bad call to try the field goal attempt, but at this point, I find it hard to justify ever trying a field goal...unless it's in the middle of the field and short like a PAT.

haha If we would have made the 2 FGs my prediction would have been perfect 34-21 ND. But it not bad. The offense has shown they can throw the ball to many people, all over the field. We ran the ball with alittle success at times...but I think we now AA has the burst we need for the big plays.
Defense obviously need to stop the run. Got a little more pressure with on the QB so that was good. Lambert was getting abused though... hopefully we can solid that up a bit. Obviously we didnt finish how we would like... but we won the game. Congrats to the Irish.

Yea thast tough. Romine didnt play bad, but obviously it was in limited time. I think Romine will be a good one... but Turk has played very well this year. And we need him no doubt.

Well Clausen was 29/40. 349 yard. 8.7 per reception. 3 TDs. 66% completion. 0 Turnovers.

I hope Turkovich isn't hurt too bad but it didnt look good. North Carolina had a good d-line and we'll need him. I'm sure Romine will look a lot better after getting a week with the 1's in practice. I sure hope so anyway.

pac10 refs suck...that's pretty well acknowledged and accepted by all. it still should not have been a one position game at that stage in the game. the next stage for this team (aside from developing a potent running game) will be to maintain focus for the entire 60min regardless of the score. anyway, solid win and lets move on to carolina. 4-1 beats the hell out of 1-4. go irish

SpanishElite

I didnt think that the refs were that bad. Did they have some holding calls? No doubt.. but I dont think they had alot more than we did when we were on offense. There is no doubt the focus and the constant effort and pressure has to stay consistent. No doubt 4-1 aint bad.

the refs were pretty bad. on the punt that we fumbled and they recovered but was called for interference was a bad call. really glad we got the break on that one though. i agree with what yall are saying though. running game was better but still isnt that good. jimmy and co. were outstanding today except for the last drive when we had two dropped balls. floyd had the over thge shoulder drop (granted its a tough catch) and i forgot who dropped the out pattern for a first down. but really glad we won and thats what really matters. i sure hope nobody is sleeping on this unc team we play next week b/c they are young and hungry with a good coach and talent. glad they have a backup playing qb but they are underrated and i hope the irish dont take this team lightly. go irish and 4-1 is aq beautiful thing. oh yeah and fuck mark may who said we would be lucky to come out of our first 6 games with maybe one win. i hope lou shoves a shaleli (sp) up his butt

I don't think they will be sleeping on UNC. This is one of the games that I picked as a loss at the start of the season. I think we can win, obviously, but it's going to be a tough road game.

SpanishElite

I agree. No one is sleeping on UNC. Plus ND is not nearly good enough to sleep on anyone. You see we have alittle bit of success (1st half) and we sorta fall alseep and slide a bit. So there is no doubt we will be ready to play against UNC. And honestly we haven't been tested on the road. UNC is getting turned into a great program and a tough place to play with Butch Davis. Very "old Miami". Its going to be a tough week. Hopefully Turk will be fine and we can get some things alittle more solid on defense.

I am hearing or reading al lot on the officiating during the game (especially on the trees board), I would agree that overall it was poor but I wouldnt really say either team got an advantage from of it. Both teams had the punt return interference calls and both teams had some mystifying hold and false start calls.

am I wrong?

the officiating was poor no doubt but as for the interference calls on the punts ND did catch a break.

Can anyone explain the false start calls that were called on JC to me?

Bad officiating...haha. No, Clausen said the ref told him that he was flinching his hands or something. He's never gotten called for a false start like that before. I remember one game out of like 10 years of playing football I kept getting called for leaning (at runningback) before the snap and it was the most frustrating thing ever cause I never got called for false starts. Let alone I was barely moving if at all. It's just a d*ck ref. who thinks he is spotting something that no one else is.

The interference call was pretty bad, but on the replay, I'm pretty sure that the ball didnt even touch one of our guys so Stanford still wouldnt have gotten the ball...could be wrong though
