The Irish have offered Xavier Su’a Filo. Xavier is a Mormon like Manti Te’o and will be taking a 2 year mission in the middle of his college career. CW has already told Te’o that would not be a problem so it is safe to assume that Su’a Filo was given the same assurance by the ND staff. All the schools in his Schools of Interest have already offered Xavier, who will be one of the most heavily recruited and most athletically gifted OL prospects in 2009. Rivals named him to their First-Team All-San Antonio Combine, but only have him listed as just barely outside of the current Rivals 100 for 2009.

Su’a Filo becomes the 5th OT offered in the Class of 2009, and the 34th Offer overall.

Won't be heart-broken if we don't get him- hate the way the 2 yr msn in the middle of the college carreer reeks havoc in the depth chart. Would rather have him do the mission 1st, then offer him for when he gets back, if he is that good. Call me jaded, but I have seen too many guys here at BSU come here, then after 1 yr, go on their 2 yr mission and come back either to switch to BYU or Utah or just not be the same player. FWIW

When was the last time we had a guy on the roster who took off for a 2 year mission.. I would tend to agree that the depth chart hit would suck, unless they didnt count against the scholorship # while they were gone...

this whole new job thing is really cutting into my GH/ND time :/

Xavier Su’a-Filo’s first piece of mail from Notre Dame was a written scholarship offer. Su’a-Filo, OL, 6-5, 275, Timpview High School, Provo, UT was stunned by the offer.

“I was thinking what, this is crazy,” said Su’a-Filo. “I got to talk to the offensive line coach first. Coach (John) Latina was telling me why they were calling and what was going to happen. He said they watched my film and they were impressed. Then I got to talk to coach Weis. He seemed like a real nice guy.”

Su’a-Filo’s conversation with Weis represented his first real direct contact with anyone or anything associated with Notre Dame. However, like most high school players, he’s heard of the Irish.

“…He (Weis) introduced himself to me,” Su’a-Filo explained. “He said I’m coach Weis, the head coach of the University of Notre Dame and I’m calling to offer you a scholarship. They looked at my film and thought I was a good player and he asked me how I felt about it. I was excited. I told him I don’t know much about Notre Dame, I haven’t been out there. I told him I’ve heard nothing but good things about their tradition and how they do things out there. I’d like to go take a look and see what they have, because Notre Dame is big time.”

When looking for an interior offensive lineman who can run like a tight end and hit like a heavyweight boxer, don't go any further than Timpview High in Provo, Utah for Xavier Su'a Filo. Don't be fooled by his 6-foot-5, 275-pound frame; this first team all-stater has the feet and agility to make the impossible look routine.

Good source says that it isn't 100% that Xavier takes his mission in the middle of his college career

Profile Updated to reflect latest Rivals & Scout rankings.

Xavier virtually stays the same on Rivals, but makes a nice jump on Scout into their 100 at #80.

You can take this guy off your wish list, that is if you thought that there was enough pixie dust in the world to think he would ever be coming to South Bend.

He has a Top 7, LSU, Miami, BYU, UCLA, USC, Stanford and Utah. I will say that is quite an interesting and varied collection of schools.

Again....anybody but USC.

Profile Updated with latest Rivals and Scout rankings.

Xavier stays pretty much the same on Rivals, but continues to move up on Scout. They must be expecting a USC commit here, but this kid is probably not headed to Box of Crap U.

I think I figured out why X is so high on Utah;

his coach is being hired on as an assistant, thats one way to get the job done.
