He may go the Samardzija route with his blend of speed and strength.

Talk about it in The Four Horsemen Lounge
He's brought a hot bat to the lineup. He's also brought speed to the middle-to-bottom half of the order.

More than anything, however, freshman centerfielder Golden Tate has brought an attitude to the Notre Dame baseball team (3-3) that is rubbing off on his teammates.

"Seeing Golden play like he has, he's kind of inspired the team," said Irish head coach Dave Schrage, whose squad opened their spring trip at the Papa John's Challenge in Santaluces, Fla., with a 5-0 victory over Mount Saint Mary's, a 6-4 come-from-behind win over St. Bonaventure and a 7-2 loss to Boston College.

"Golden gives us another weapon, which has been exciting."

Tate played a role in all three innings the Irish scored in their 5-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's. He sacrificed Sean Gaston to second base to set up Billy Boockford's run-scoring single in the second. He doubled to open the two-run fourth inning, and he doubled again to start the two-run eighth.

The next day against St. Bonaventure, Tate had three of Notre Dame's 10 hits. He singled, stole second and scored on Cameron McConnell's single in the second. He singled and scored in the sixth on Casey Martin's single to right field.

But that simple description doesn't do justice to Tate's second run scored. He was stealing on the pitch to Martin, and scored all the way from first on the ground ball through the right side of the infield.

"Obviously, he's off to a great start," said Schrage of Tate. "Speed-wise, he's very impressive. He obviously has game-changing speed."

I think we may see another Evan Sharpley here. A great person who will contribute to the football team but may be a better baseball player. Either way this young man has some serious talent.

Happy for the 2 of them. Fortunately for us, we have players on FB team that can do what they may not be able to do no the gridiron. Or is that too harsh?

Let's not give up hope that Tate can still help the FB team. He will only going into his second year and he did show flashes of brilliance (Purdue).

You are right. He has the ability and with the confidence carried over from baseball, that might just be the ticket to hear alot of :tdirish:

Let's remember also that this was Tate's first year playing receiver - he played runningback in high school. His route running wasn't exactly polished because of it. A little experience should go a long way in this case.

I haven't seen Tate play baseball since he was redshirted last year or just didn't play, but he seems like he could be a Curtis Granderson-type player. The baseball team has some young and really talented players. College baseball is an interesting game to watch. The ping of the bat still sounds strange.

He is still young and adapting to the position. I am sure when it is all said and done he would be a great football and baseball player.

As a baseball player, I can't think of a true comparison. I think he will be a mini Bo Jackson if I had to make one. He is just a FR and he will round out with some bulk to go with his speed.

As a football player, I see Tate being a big playmaker. I also think Campanero could come in and repeat whatever Tate does, just 2 years later. Very similar IMO.

You didn't see him play last year, because he's a freshman this year.:nanana:

Looks like Golden has cooled off a bit, but Evan is putting up some nice numbers.

Oh yeah. Wow. In my mind, the Notre Dame school year is September to the bowl game. After that, you move up a year. I thought the same thing about Samardzija every year as well.
