For Aghayere specifically:
Chancey Aghayere – ND is in his Top 5, probably #5, might as well be #500, unless he makes an Official Visit in September, which he may do “if he has the time.”

Our shot here is slim and none, and slim is packed and has bought his plane ticket.
If we can just get him on campus, I'll be happy. Baby steps, I guess.

If he does not take an Official Visit to the GT game, which is the only possibilty for him before his birthday, then ND being in his Top 5 is as good as being in his Top 500.

Aghayere moves to the out category on the uncommitted list. Still no word of any Official Visit to ND before his 9/17 announcement date. This one is between Texas & Florida. Hook those horns in Mack!

LOL- Chancey's latest still has ND among his Top 6 now. I think he may have added Oklahoma just to have some fun. Also says that no one stands out as his favorite.
Let's see its August 2, and he plans on committing on 9/17, and he can't decide on any Officials among ND, LSU, and Louisville, but somehow he has already decided to take an Official Visit to Florida on 9/14, hmm, is that three days before his announcement date. What a coincidence?
LOL, but he doesn't have any favorites. That deserves a double :rolleyes::rolleyes:. Can anyone spell P O S T U R I N G.
Look for Chancey to get hooked by dem horns unless Urbie's Bar-B-Q sauce is really good the weekend of 9/14. Everyone else is in there for show.

Apparently Chancey has now decided that he will not be announcing on his birthday, September 17. He is still planning on announcing before the end of September. He is now visiting Florida on 9/8 instead of 9/15, and right now ND is penciled in for 9/22. However, Chancey also said that he might use the weekend of 9/22 to visit Louisville or some other school. Chancey's coach seems to be more interested in having Chancey visit ND than Chancey is himself.

That is what I gather as well IUB. Maybe his coach has some other players he'd like Notre Dame to take a look at coming down the pike and he's using Chancey as the guy to open that door.
Who knows with these kids and coaches anymore.

i think Chancey already visited Louisville over the summer, no?

It's obvious he isn't coming here and I don't care if a recruit is a 10 star I think bringing more than 5 DL is a mistake and a sort of slap in the face to the guys who beleived in ND and pledged early. It's not like we've got any slouches already verballed they're all monsters.

Chancey visited Louisville in July with his teammate Jacques Caldwell who committed to Louisville the weekend they visited. Louisville also has no shot with Aghayere and him mentioning Louisville as a possible alternative visit sight for the 9/22 weekend instead of ND just further illustrates how little interest he has in the Irish.

Before I start on this, let me say first of all that IMO ND has less then a 0% chance of getting Chancey Aghayere, but to say that they should not even consider him because it is a slap in the face to the other 5 DL recruits is IMO overstating the case a bit. Aghayere does not affect the other 5 DL recruits as much as the continued recruitment of Marcus Forston would have. Forston would have played on the DL for sure, and most likely the interior of the DL. Aghayere on the other hand has more potential flexibility in a ND 3-4 Defense. When I look at a guy like Agahyere I see a potential Willie McGinest type player, and in the 3-4 hybrid that CW talked about way back in his NSD presser, tweeners are the most critical aspect to having the flexibilty to utilize some sort of 3-4 hybrid. So far this year, only Darius Fleming fits the tweener mold. There is no reason why Aghayere could not fit this mold as well. I also believe that ND is maintaining interest in Datone Jones (who they have little or no shot at as well) because he is also a potential tweener.
I do not think that ND will sign another "D" recruit this year, but I also lend no credence to Sabino's contention that he is the last "D" prospect that they are looking at. Look what has transpired with Sabino in reference to ND since he made that statement. I do believe that there will be no more "D" offers going out, but in the unlikely instance that a tidal wave might hit South Bend and Aghayere or Datone Jones decided they wanted to spend their college years on the ND campus, they would not be turned away because of any promises made to the current 5 DL recruits.

Not going to happen, but if Aghayere wanted to commit I don't see how ND wouldn't take him (38th best player in the nation). If John Ryan can play OLB then Aghayere sure as hell can.

I think John Ryan will move back to rush DE next year when we accually have some willing and able bodies to plug in at OLB. He's playing out of position, but he's too good to keep off of the field. I could see a solid 4 man rotation next year (Obviously two will be starters with the other two getting reps to give them breathers, all the good teams do this) with Wade, Ryan, J. Brown (if he has a good year and comes back for a 5th) and Mullen with Kuntz and Ian maning the middle. I think that is a solid DL.

He's not big enough IK. Weis has said on a couple of occasions that Ryan was a tweener in the 4-3 but is perfect for a 3-4 OLB. His frame will not hold the 280+ pounds needed to play DE in the 3-4. Moreover, there really is no such thing as a rush end in the 3-4.
Now, you will see Ryan with his hand on the ground from time to time this year, when they shift the D to more of a 4-3 look. But you're just as likely to see him in coverage.
I think we'll see a healthy situational rotation of OLBs this year. Ryan will start, but Kerry Neal, Brian Smith, and Morrice Richardson will most likely all see action on the left side of the defense, depending on the situation, just as we'll see AV rotating with others (Neal, Smith, Smith) on the right side.

---Good points, but the weakside DE in the 3-4 is a rush end though. Obviously not to the extent of a 4-3, but Weis still refers it as that.

It appears that Chancey was not blown away by Urbie's BBQ, and did not commit to the Gators after his trip there last weekend. His mom who was scheduled to accompany him there also cancelled her trip to Gainesville. So GatorLand has cooled somewhat on their chances of grabbing Chancey out of Texas. His coach continues to say that Chancey will visit ND for the MSU game and although I am still somewhat skeptical that it will actually happen, it is close enough to the game to add Chancey to our 2008 In-Season Visit List. The coach is also saying that Chancey will now take an Official to LSU as well on 10/6 for the LSU-Florida game so it appears as though Chancey's oft stated wish to announce on his birthday (next Monday) has been pushed back to October. Still all of this is coming from the coach, not Chancey, and whenever Chancey talks there seems to be a different version of the story, so I would also not be shocked if we did hear an announcement on 9/17.

Aghayere will be announcing his decision today. In another "legacy failure" Texas is not one of the two finalists. Chancey will go SEC as he picks either LSU or Florida. It was rumored after Aghayere's visit to Gainesville that he was a Gator "silent commit." However, he took his official to LSU this past weekend and saw LSU beat Florida. Hopefully the second straight loss by Urbie's boys was enough to change Chancey's mind and he will not be Cockwad bound.
If not I guess Chancey can look forward to hearing some man-love from Urbie later today, in that Urbesque familiar mantra of adoration, Chancey, Chancey, Chancey.

Looks like Urbie took a double defeat at LSU last weekend as Aghayere spurned the chance to hear Chancey, Chancey, Chancey and committed to LSU last night. Always good to see the Cockwad finish second.

"Aghayere, who was ranked as a five-star prospect after his junior season, had the biggest drop. He had been No. 61 overall in the October rankings, but during three in-person evaluations this season he failed to impress at the level that a top-100 prospect should."
How quickly things can change in evaluations and rankings.
