Notre Dame is showing a lot of interest in Alex, whose father Louis played in the NFL for eight seasons with Cleveland and Seattle. Alex also grew up a fan of Tennessee and Notre Dame, and Tennessee as well as every other school in his Schools of Interest except ND has already offered. ND could have some play here if they offered, but Bullard would still be a tough get out of SEC/ACC country.

Supposedly he grew up an Irish fan as well. And some people were worried about how recruiting was going.

According to Scout he favors Tennessee over Bama, ND, Michigan,UF, and USC (east).

SoCalDomer

Although Bullard says he's still open, he admits he now favors Tennessee slightly over Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida and South Carolina. All of his favorites have offered.

"I like them all, but Tennessee is close and they are recruiting me the most right now," Bullard said. "Just the prestige and tradition there is amazing. That's a place I know a lot of people at and feel at home. I really like coach Phillip Fulmer. He's a very good man and very kind. He's easy to talk too."

------

The only other spring game that Bullard attended was Notre Dame's. "I had a really great time," he said. "It's a unique school. I liked coach Charlie Weis too. He's a real straightforward guy and doesn't beat around the bush. He spent time to talk with me and said they expect a lot from their players both on and off the field.

"Watching their spring game was very exciting and motivation for me," he said. "They looked great and they are really improving. They are more mature and ready to win. I really think they are on the way up."

I just watched his film on Rivals and three thing jumped out at me. First, he has excellent feet for a big kid. Second, he is freakishly strong. Finally, this kid knows how to finish a block. There are going to be many crushed corpses of high school football players this coming season due to this kid. For those of you who want to see the return of the old Lou Holtz running attack, this young man is a must get!

“I just want to get a better feel for the school, and see some things I didn’t get a chance to see when I was up there for the spring game,” Bullard said. He picked up his Notre Dame offer on that trip, and currently has around 20 to sort through. “I want to check out the weight room and meet the strength and conditioning coach.”

Bullard will travel to Ann Arbor on Wednesday night, and leave for Notre Dame on Thursday morning. He will depart for home on Saturday morning.

During the current recruiting evaluation period, Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Haywood and offensive line coach John Latina dropped by the school on two separate occasions to see Bullard.

“Coach Latina came to see me practice, and when I called him he said he liked what he saw and that he was very impressed,” Bullard said. “I’ve been building a relationship with him and coach Haywood.”

here it is:

Offensive guard Alex Bullard told ESPN affiliate Web site GatorCountry.com, "Tennessee and Notre Dame were the two schools that I really followed growing up."
Bullard has already visited the Volunteers and Irish along with Alabama. Additionally, he plans to check out Michigan and Florida this summer.
The coveted 2009 prospect is the son of former Seattle Seahawk left tackle Louis Bullard.

Not sure what the Bunny has to say, a lot of what he says is suspect to begin with, but from what I have seen all Bullard is saying is that he enjoyed the ND visit and now has enough info to make his decision without making any further visits to anywhere else. That does not mean he is ready to make the decision immediately, just that he is done with his research. He did seem to imply that he was not all that overwhelmed by scUM though, so this looks more and more like a ND vs. Tenn. decision.

He can take his time. Players who wait longer seem to commit to ND more often. Walker, KLM, Floyd, etc. When you look long and hard at your options, it's obvious ND is the best school to go to right now.

Not to highjack this thread but your comment made me think of the recent things said about Harrison. Now word is ( in TN land) that Harrison is unhappy, even after his MVP spring game. I followed his recruiting and at first TN fans wanted him as much as Donald. Then after he committed to ND they were saying he was to slow to play in the SEC and that his father pushed him to ND. And next, after the season he was unhappy because of his playing time. Finally he feels he made a mistake and wants to come home. I cannot put into words my hatered of the UT Football Program and fans.

Hey IUB any water to this statement???

The "playing time" comment is the clue that this is all BS generated by Vol fans still sour about Harrison spurning Tenn. What playing time are they talking about since he never touched the field last year in order to retain 4 full years of eligibility during which he will see a lot of playing time. Sour grapes, nothing else.

Alex Bullard is Irish!

Toughest part of the decision was telling other people no, but he wanted to get it out of the way so he could concentrate on his Senior Year of football.

And The Ball Keeps Rolling…

by JASON SAPP
Recruiting Analyst

Things were fairly slow on the recruiting front while the coaches were on the road during the spring evaluation period.

Following the coaches’ reunion upon their return, the momentum certainly started to pick up as a new wave of offers were extended and Tennessee native Alex Bullard made a return trip to campus.

Things kept moving in the right direction during the first week of June as recently offered offensive tackle Michael Schofield had a successful visit on campus, outside linebacker Dan Fox gave his pledge to the Irish during his visit the following day, and Bullard announced his intentions during a Friday morning press conference.

“I called Coach (Charlie) Weis yesterday afternoon and let him know that I was ready to commit to Notre Dame,” the 6-foot-3, 275-pound lineman reported on the Thursday night prior to the press conference. “He was pleased and really excited that I’m coming to Notre Dame.”

Bullard’s first trip to South Bend was for the Blue-Gold game and he left campus with an Irish offer in hand.

After returning home from that trip, he reportedly listed Tennessee as his slight leader over the other contenders. The Volunteers remained as one of his favorites, but the Irish were capable of overtaking the lead by their recruiting efforts over the last month.

“Notre Dame and Tennessee were my top schools. Michigan was in there too,” Bullard said of his finalists. “Both Tennessee and Michigan are great schools. It’s nothing against their programs, but Notre Dame is just a better fit for me.”

Brentwood, Tenn. is a strong support area for the Tennessee Vols and Bullard grew up as a fan. After the Irish successfully accomplished one of the toughest feats in recruiting – winning an in-state battle – it wasn’t easy for him to notify the local coach.

“I had to call Tennessee to let them know about my decision because my coach (Ralph Potter) has a good relationship with them. It’s the right thing to do out of respect for their program as well,” he said. “I talked to Coach (Phil) Fulmer yesterday and that wasn’t an easy call to make at all.”

Brentwood Academy lost in the Division II AA state championship game against Montgomery Bell Academy, 12-0, after the Eagles brought home the title the previous season. Bullard, who contributed as an offensive tackle and is being recruited as an offensive guard, plans on leading his team to another state championship in his senior season with most of the talented players returning.

By noticing the similarities between Notre Dame and his high school, it certainly helped him make his final decision.

“Basically the biggest thing for me was life past football,” he said. “It’s a smaller school with a smaller setting and a smaller environment. Notre Dame is more tailored to how I operate in the classroom and it’s similar to my school. I like the smaller campus community and smaller classes.”

Well, that and his parents openly expressed their interest in Notre Dame as well.

“My parents were pulling for Notre Dame,” he shared. “They made sure to leave the decision in my hands, but they told me that they liked Notre Dame.

“I told my dad on the way home from the visit that I wanted to go to Notre Dame and we told my mom when we got home. They sat me down and wanted to make sure that it was my decision and not what I thought they wanted me to do.”

Now that Bullard has become the seventh verbal commitment of the 2009 recruiting class, he plans on playing the role of a recruiter and helping Notre Dame’s efforts. He was already in contact with defensive tackle commit Tyler Stockton and wants to reach out to others the way Stockton did him.

“I could see myself doing something similar to Tyler and helping out,” he said. “Hopefully we’ll get the no. 1 recruiting class.”

There’s still quite a bit of time to land a top recruiting class, but adding Bullard certainly helps the Irish continue in the right direction.

As other top prospects continue to hit campus throughout the summer, hopefully they’ll have a similar feeling to Bullard and feel prepared to commit to the Irish as well.

Brentwood Academy lineman Alex Bullard wants to be in South Bend when Notre Dame returns to football prominence.

Bullard, a 6-foot-4, 275-pound offensive guard, will announce his commitment to play football for the Irish at 10 a.m. today at BA.

He selected Notre Dame over Tennessee and Michigan, who were next in line on his list of 21 scholarship offers.

"It's a good fit for me," Bullard said. "I liked the smaller campus, smaller classrooms and just how prestigious a school they are. Especially with Tennessee, it was a tough decision. I felt like me and Coach (Phillip) Fulmer had a relationship. But at the end of the day, Notre Dame was the best place for me."

Bullard attended Notre Dame's spring game in April.

"At first I was going to wait until after football season to decide," Bullard said, "but this was best for me and my family, and the interest of my team."

BA could have up to four linemen sign with major colleges. The last local prospect to sign with Notre Dame was Pope John Paul II receiver Golden Tate in 2007.

Rivals.com ranks Bullard No. 11 nationally among offensive guards in the Class of 2009 and fourth among Tennessee prospects.

"Alex has a lot of upside as an athlete," BA Coach Ralph Potter said. "Probably the best thing he does is come off the ball extremely hard. He's got good, flexible hips, and he can really move."

This article shows a lot about where this kid is coming from. His parents, liked ND but after his making a decision that sat him down and wanted to make sure it is what he wanted and not what they wanted? Brilliant job by parents to make sure the kid has his head on straight and will be happy in his future. I want them to adopt me now after reading that.

All kidding aside, this shows the kind of players and students that Notre Dame is all about.http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o195/Specnatz/char-cheerleader2.gif

Maybe. But I doubt it. The staff recruited him as a Guard and most of the time in high school, the team's best OL plays tackle.

From the limited tape I have seen I think he is above average agility for an OG.. but out at OT I think he could be below average. I think he could be a STUD at OG, but think could play OT in a pinch but I dont think he could make a living there. Him vs Everson Griffen (USC) or a premire rush end. I think we would be at a disadvantage.

Alex stays pretty much the same on Rivals, but jumps 127 slots on Scout who is now also listing him as an OG prospect.

As for ESPN, another LOL. How can Bullard be the #5 OG on Scout, and the #11 OG on Rivals, and be ranked as the #35 OG by ESPN. Beats me.

Former Brentwood Academy offensive lineman Alex Bullard is coming back home to the University of Tennessee. The four star offensive lineman and the No. 7 rated guard in the country spent the last two years at Notre Dame.

The four star offensive lineman and the No. 7 rated guard in the country spent the last two years at Notre Dame.

InsideTennessee.com confirmed with Bullard’s mother Dorthy that Alex will indeed transfer to the Knoxville campus next week.

“We are so excited that is coming back home,” Mrs. Bullard said Thursday night. “Alex father passed away last April and its been a big hardship on our family. Notre Dame released him from his scholarship yesterday.”

According to Mrs. Bullard, Alex redshirted his freshman year at Notre Dame and was a redshirt freshman this past fall. He will have three years to play and he may not have to sit out the normal one year due to the NCAA transfer rule.

“He may not have to sit out a year,” Mrs. Bullard said. “We are hoping he won’t. We will apply for the NCAA Hardship rule. It’s been really tough on our family, Alex is still grieving. He and his father was very close.”

Bullard is a 6-foot-5, 285 pound athlete, that has been clocked in the forty at 4.9 seconds.
