Butler has a Top 10 list now and not surprisingly ND made the cut. The good news is that the Irish are also most likely in his Top 3 as well. The bad news is that their also probably #3 behind USC & FSU.

Well I guess everybody should prepare for a future Butler committ to USC...Won't be suprised to see another WR offer coming out eventually...

Well I guess we should get ready for defending Butler for the next few years instead of giving him the ball. He won't see the field early there, but I guess it's about the weather and L.A. for him...

By DAVID PURDUM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 06/22/07
Georgia has made the first cut of the nationwide recruiting battle for Norcross star wide receiver Brice Butler, who narrowed his list of college choices to 10 on Thursday.

But don't be surprised if Butler heads to the West Coast.

Butler said he'll decide between Southern Cal, Florida State, Notre Dame, LSU, Arizona State, Florida, Penn State, Oregon, Oregon State and Georgia.

"I wanted to cut down my list because I'm planning on committing in July," said Butler, who has more than 40 scholarship offers.

"I want to get it over with so I can focus on the season and winning a state championship."

He said he receives about 15 letters from colleges and more than 20 text messages each day.

Butler (6-2, 175) has visited each of the schools on his list, except Oregon and Oregon State.

He's planning on visiting the Ducks and Beavers this month, before ending his search.

Before this spring, he had never traveled farther west than Louisiana. Now, he seems to have become quite fond of the West Coast's climate.

"The climate out there is crazy," said Butler of his visit to Los Angeles. "There's no humidity. When it's 90 degrees here, it's kind of sweltering. There, it's nice."

Southern Cal coach Pete Carroll, Florida's Urban Meyer and Alabama's Nick Saban were among the numerous coaches who visited Norcross' spring practice to check out Butler.

Norcross coach Keith Maloof had not spoken with Butler on Thursday, but said the list was about what he expected it would be.

When asked if Southern Cal was the favorite to land Butler, Maloof said, "I try to stay out of it, so I don't have to lie to anyone."

Summer can be hot as hell in socal. I got off a plane at Ontario, and I think I melted. Wait till he hits summer practice.

EJ Manuel has committed to FSU. There have been rumblings on the message boards that this would signal that Butler would be the next FSU commit. I'm not sure that Butler needs any reason to commit to FSU, so I don't put a lot of stock into that, but if he does commit in the next week or so, the rumblings may have some merit. In any case, ND is sinking deeper and deeper into third place on the Butler list.

screw it, maybe now ND would offer Kenny Tate and/or Deion

in any case, I want floyd and baldwin

irishunclebill
06-29-2007, 10:05 AM
If ND gets Floyd/Baldwin, it will be the best WR recruiting combo in the country this year. It looks like all of the other Top WR's are all going to be headed to different schools. The only other possibility I see that could match Floyd/Baldwin would be Julio Jones/De Andre Brown if they were to both end up at Alabama, which at this point seems unlikely.

frosh
06-29-2007, 10:20 AM
georgia would also have to be in the argument with my personal favorite AJ Green and also Tavarres King.

but Floyd and Baldwin would be a fantastic haul indeed

irishunclebill
06-29-2007, 10:56 AM
Good point, forgot about King, and those 2 are actually already committed as opposed to our hopes for Floyd/Baldwin. The Green/King combo would also be higher rated consensus wise than Floyd/Baldwin.

Butler has set an announcement time with a press conference at his school in the first week of August. No specific time or date set yet. He has not trimmed his previous Top 10 list and it sounds unlikely that he will do so before he announces. In all reality it is only a Top 3 or 4 at the most list anyway (with ND in that group), and the general feeling is that there is really only 2 in contention, FSU & USC. Nonetheless, ND is at least a player on paper, so we will look forward to hearing Brice's decision.

This was before your time YI, but we should all not forget that a certain recruit (who shall remain nameless) told a certain ND message board MOD (who also shall remain nameless) that he was going to pick ND at his announcement, and despite quite a bit of twirling of an ND hat never had any intention of committing to the Irish. Butler is not going to let his big moment be ruined by prematurely leaking his intentions to message board posters.

Ok...

1) How do you know that that facebook profile is even actually Brice Bulter? People mimic big time recruits all the time on facebook and myspace. Just look at all the Jimmy Clausens on facebook and myspace.

2) What source do you have that says Toryan is going to be at the press conference. My gut feeling is that there is no way unless its going to be at the college hall of fame, jk.

If Butler does commit to ND, 95% of this board will be in total shock, somewhere along the lines of an Omar Hunter commitment

Welcome! There are some simple ways to confirm identities on Facebook and/or MySpace.

One way, for instance, is to follow the source. For example, Matt Alkire (an analyst with Scout) has a MySpace account and deals in person with many prospects. I believe he personally verifies each kid before he adds them to his profile. Others I would assume follow the same procedures.

But yes, a majority of them are fakes. You just have to be smart enough to figure out the Mona Lisas from the Moner Lisas.

tchris555
07-31-2007, 05:28 PM
i think sharting by definition must be accidental or it is fundamentally no longer a shart. Instead, it would simply be intentional farting with intentional defication.

Though, I don't think it will be an issue. How many times can we do this. Get excited about a prospect's announcement simply because the kid wants the attention of ND nation despite being recently cold on our radar.

Not saying we were never a favorite, but with his decision days away and little rumblings besides him humoring an ND fan on facebook, I will remain a pessimist and actually hope he goes to FSU rather than USC.

(I am completely willing to eat my words though if Brice decides to surprise me....except about the sharting thing)

National recognition for Butler; Chattahoochee’s Smith to Arkansas
By Jeff Hood, David Purdum
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Brice Butler, Norcross’ prized wide receiver recruit, knows exactly where he is ranked by Rivals.com and Scout.com.

“Scout’s got me ranked higher,” Butler said. “They’ve got me 36th. Rivals has me at 66. I pay attention.”

But Butler admits to being a little surprised when he found out where he was ranked by ESPN.com.

Not only is Butler the state’s highest ranked recruit in the ESPN 150, but he’s also the 16th-best prospect in the nation, according to the rankings released on Monday.

Butler, the son of former Atlanta Falcons defensive back Bobby Butler, was the second-highest ranked receiver, behind Georgia commitment A.J. Green of Summerville, S.C.

“My friend called me to congratulate me on being No. 16,” said Brice Butler. “I didn’t even know ESPN had released rankings.”

Butler has narrowed down his dozens of offers to a top 10, which includes Georgia, Southern California, Florida and Notre Dame.

He plans on making his announcement on Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. at Norcross High School.

Noway Butler is committing to the Irish guys....his attitude fits better at Free Shoes U....possibly USCless, but that's only if he wants to sit the bench for a bit to garner some playing time. Which it seems is one of his big must for recruiting.

I also think that there should be an unwritten policy of keeping the information distributed on this site here (kind of like Las Vegas). There is no way that we should be questioning a potential recruit about information that we learn. It is bad news for a whole variety of reasons. I don't mean to single anyone out, but we need to show a little more maturity.

No surprise there. Butler's a good kid, but he is also a showman. No way an ND hat would be excluded from this presser, but it's just posturing. What is surprising is that Martinez who may be the biggest homer on the Rivals network is not gushing all about an imminent commit by Butler to poodleland. If I were a betting man, (oops sorry IK, I am) I would probably lay a little more green on Free Shoes after reading a subdued Martinez article.

Name on the card: Robert Butler
"Ship to" address: Norcross, GA

Probably did that so he can do IUB's favorite, the hat game, when he chooses.

----That's why you don't mess with recruits on facebook or myspace. He's a U$C kid not an ND one as most of us already knew by his 3 years of college and out talk. Butler going to U$C will have zero affect on Deion Walker because Deion has just as many friends at F$U and other places. Recruits rarely make their college choices on where their friends are at to be honest. It's all about how "they" fit in. Even with Crist he said McDonald committing had "zero" affect on him because it's a selfish process and you gotta do what's best for you and your situation.

Also, let's not go too hard on Butler. The kid was obviously star-struck from his first visit to USC, and was never able to get over it, and congrats to IK1023 for recognizing that fact from the get go. At least Butler did not go overboard with it like Beal. ND was never a player here, it was just the old posturing routine, but he did not go overboard with that either, and unless something happened today, I don't recall Butler having anything derogatory to say about ND.

IMO, he did make a bad decision, but let's respect that decision. I also thought it would have been a bad decision for him if he had picked ND, but I really don't believe that was ever in the realm of possibility. Even though I would rather have seen him pick FSU because you would always prefer to see a quality recruit commit to a school that you do not play every year, I do not see Butler as a big factor in the ND/USC series. Most likely, we will only see him as a starting WR for the Trojans one year, if that.

Are you serious man? It's fricken Facebook. Please tell me you're not pissed about that. I find it very funny how people go onto Facebook and Myspace to "talk" to these recruits. Put yourself in their shoes. They couldn't care less who is messaging them or what they're saying/asking, and I don't blame them. I wouldn't even bother with people like that. Brice just felt like having a little fun by messing with you. And it worked.

Anyways, understandably there are a lot of people saying he won't see the field very much. Let's not forget that he's the #12 rated WR (rivals) even without seeing many balls his way as a JR. Brice is also one of the most polished and ready to play WR in this class. I don't think it'll be three and out like he wants but I wouldn't be surprised if he sees meaningful playing time soon.

Ronald Johnson- 5 star 6.1 07 class
Brandon Carswell- 4 star 5.8 07 class
David Ausberry- 4 star 6.0 06 class
Vidal Hazelton- 5 star 6.1 06 class
Travon Patterson- 3 star 5.7 06 class
Patrick Turner- 5 star 6.0 05 class
----and not including any potential 5th year 5 star WR they have from the 04 class. I only counted those listed as WR and not just ATH.

While I won't take a piņata to him in a public forum, or make derogatory comments about him, I'll just say that based off the little I've seen and heard from him, it'll be easier to root against him than it would be to root for him. Not for nothing guys, but you obviously don't remember Bobby Butler's antics at both FSU & the Falcons. He was not the most liked player on the field. Until today, both father & son had done a pretty good job of hiding the fact that Dad's showmanship (poor in most cases) had been passed on to the son.

This part is not all that unusual, and Butler sort of hinted he might do that because he wanted his teammates to get some exposure. I think ND and all of the other schools, except maybe FSU, involved in the Butler Top 10 already knew what his true intentions were, but most like ND waited for the confirmation that they received earlier this week that Butler was sticking with USC before reacting to it. In ND's case, the reaction was sending Deion Walker an offer.

BTW, there is a good chance that Mike Floyd is doing the same thing as Butler for his teammate's sake. This seems to be somewhat of a tradition with the elite Cretin recruits.

I really hope to see our DBs not just shut him down, but knock the sh** out of him. Ideally, McCarthy will hit him unconscious and calmly walk away. Blanton, being that they are friends, could knock the snot out of him and then laugh as BB looks for his mouthpiece on all fours, a la Mike Tyson. These scenarios are the only two times he has the ball thrown his way because Blanton has him locked down every other snap of his 4 years in the ND / SC rivalry. Oh wait, BB might only play in that game twice. If there were to be a third time BB gets thrown to, Harrison Smith picks it off for 6... and then BB gets a blind sided de-cleater in the ear hole from... McDonald. OUCH!! Guys, I think we have a nasty  defense in the making.

Some of you might find this interesting. Looks like FSU is putting a full-court press on BB sending 6 coaches to visit with him. There's a paid Rivals article that says Butler may take an official to FSU and LSU. I'd like to see a USC decommit.

I also think Weis hasn't had any of this flirting from current commits. Butler could have easily said no thanks. Just goes to show a little about him as well as Weis' interpretation of committment and what it means.

As much as i would like to see usc lose commits, in this situation i would hope they dont. They are most likely full at the wr position for this class. We dont need there attention turning back to walker or even robinson.

Two things on BB. Much like Daddy, he likes to hear himself talk, and probably wants to be involved in something down the homestretch. Second thing is this info is from an FSU site. I'm not saying it is not true that FSU is contacting BB, but his interest in return may be somewhat exaggerated. In the end , he will stay with Petey so I'm not concerned about Deion Walker and USC. The flip side of this story is that FSU pursuing BB so heavily may be a signal that they are out of the Deion Walker sweepstakes.

Good point iub didnt think about it from fsu's perspective. So then it would be down to a nd/psu battle for walker. Looking at the difference in class strength you would think that would add to nd's chances. What has led people to believe that psu is a major player here?

Woooohooooo!!! Neon Deion is my fav of the 3 headed wide receiver monster that we are pursuing. I realize that we are probably down to a 2 headed monster at this point with Baldwin out of the pic, but you never know about the Harper situation. Anyway, with Neon Deion and GRob I think that our WR class will rival anyone's in the country! And I also think that we will get both of them!!!

Hello, Miami?

I would think FSU would be his 1st choice, but they may not want him.

Butler eventually changed his mind about leaving USC last year but now it looks like he is looking to leave again, this time most likely at Kiffy's request.

Take two: USC’s Brice Butler ‘looking around’ at other schools

Posted by Ben Kercheval on January 4, 2012, 8:41 PM EST

Just under a year after declaring that he would leave USC, before flipping back to staying with the Trojans months later, wide receiver Brice Butler decided he will, once and for all, leave for another school.

Lane Kiffin confirmed today that Butler, a redshirt junior, was “looking around” but no transfer destinations were mentioned. Barring a hardship waiver from the NCAA, Butler would have to transfer down a level — either Division 1-A or D-II — in order to play right away.

Butler had 12 receptions for 150 yards this season.

What a waste of talent. Seems like yesterday he and Slaughter were two GA boys being recruited together.

APAfter “looking around” at other schools for the second time in the last year, USC receiver Brice Butler has finally landed on a transfer destination.

In a text message to ESPN LA’s Pedro Moura and the Orange County Register, Butler confirmed he will go to San Diego State for his remaining year of eligibility. Butler, and we didn’t mention this last time, graduated in December and will pursue a graduate degree at SDSU. Butler said he chose SDSU over Kansas.

Butler is the third Trojan to leave the program in the last few days, although Butler was expected to depart from the program. Running back Amir Carlisle has transferred to Notre Dame and wide receiver Kyle Prater has announced his intentions to transfer, but it’s not known yet to where he will go.

While at USC, Butler totaled 41 catches for 554 yards in three years. He considered transferring last season, but ultimately stayed with the Trojans.
