After a long, arduous, and at times treacherous recruiting road, Trevor Robinson has finally reconciled himself to the fact that he is Irish after all. Pulling a top recruit from the state of Nebraska is a difficult task for any school, but Notre Dame’s persistence, and Bill Callahan’s duplicity have finally paid off for the Irish.
From the beginning this was a Notre Dame vs. Nebraska battle with scUM on the periphery. Eventually the pull of Nebraska was too strong for Trev, and despite being extremely enamored of Notre Dame and what it had to offer, Trev decided to verbally commit to Nebraska. When he subsequently changed his mind and de-committed, he and his family, especially his Dad, were subjected to an extraordinary amount of abuse from Big Red fans. The height of this abuse occurred while Trev was visiting ND and Michigan the weekend after his de-commitment from NU. From that point on the Robinson family was justifiably very quiet about Trev’s intentions. Today happily ends that period of silence for fans of Notre Dame Football.
Trev is expected to be an early enrollee at Notre Dame and start classes on January 13 with fellow EE, Sean Cwynar. He becomes the 4th Offensive Lineman in the Notre Dame recruiting Class of 2008, and although the other three are rock solid recruits for the Irish, Trev is definitely the prize. He is ranked as one of the Top 100 players in the country by 4 of the 5 major recruiting boards, ESPN being the only exception. Most of the recruiting services have him slotted as an OG in college, but he played OT on High School and from all appearances he is versatile enough to be able to play either position at Notre Dame. Finally, Trev’s size and strength should enable him to contribute immediately if needed next year to an OL that struggled mightily this year, and is still in need of the added depth that Robinson’s talent and versatility will bring.
So, congratulations to the Robinson family and welcome aboard the great Notre Dame recruiting train of 2008. Now go start working on getting the other Robinson aboard as well.

Wooohooo!!!!
So how did the info come out? Did Trev just tell CW last night and CW told someone and so on? Anti-climactic or not, I am very glad he is Irish and he will be a good one. I guess anticlimactic is a good idea to avoid backlash in Nebraska.
Way to stay on top of this for us IUB.
We offered Trevor Robinson, Steve Filer, Dan Buckner and Michael Floyd out of the gate over a year ago. 3 out of 4 is damn good.

IUB,
Where do we have any factual info that he did say he is IRISH?? I hope it is true because he is an outstanding OL prospect.

Waiting for the full story, but let me put it this way, if a Notre Dame premium recruiting site posts that Trev has publicly committed, and sends text messages to all of their subscribers confirming this fact, how long do you think they would stay in business if it is not true.

Nebraska's Rivals site has the blurb up, it doesn't say who he picked in the blurb, just that he went public.

I agree. CW has suggested that he was willing to have a bigger class (if quality was available) than we all originally thought. He wants talent here now, rather than waiting on it. Eventually, he'll get to a cycle of about 20 or so per class.

This is the 2nd time today that question has been asked. Why? Page is pretty much our biggest recruit out there. We want him bad, we need him and we will recruit him hard. No changes on his recruitment. T.Rob verbal has no impact on Page.

Eh......I'd still take Page will open arms but I think that Gerrell and Deion are higher on MY list.
My list of who's left (even the ones who I don't think are coming here) are...
1) Gerrell Robinson (because he can play a mean saftey too)
2) Deion Walker
3) Datone Jones
4) Kapron Lewis Moore
5) Kenneth Page
6) Cyrus Gray
7) Chris Haper but for some reason I don't really want him (my feeling) I don't think he has solid position here...He won't play QB and never RB and at WR I feel there are more polished and talented WR's on our roster and that we're bringing in.

agree with all of above 'ranking', cept i would prefer Walker before GRob, its really just a 1 and 1A situatiion for me but reason is i think DW is a more polished and "ready to go" true WR, and i just want to make sure JC and Crist have everything they need as long as they need it and then some.

My list is a little more... topsy turvy? Boring? You decide:
1. Kenneth Page - I've ranted about this at other boards, but when you combine how AWFUL our line play has been with the need to increase competition, how poor our interior line play has been in particular, the significance of taking an SEC kid w/ 40+ offers, the kind of academic goals the guy has... he's my favorite recruit still out there.
2. Gerrell Robinson - Similar thinking to IK. He looks like a smooth player to me - not the fastest 40 guy, but a big, fluid target who I think rounds out a wonderful "big" receiver class. That, and he could be a guy to go both ways if it came down to it IMO (not that we'd need him two with our DB haul the last two years).
(this is where the 1st "drop off" is on my wish list)
3. Datone Jones - If this were a dream world I'd plug Nick Perry in here, but he's probably a long shot at best. Jones is physical, both in skillset and demeanor. Gotta like that.
4. Dieon Walker - Its taken me a while to warm up to the guy, but I'm finally there. I don't think he's as versitile/fluid as Robinson, but thats just me; still a fantastic #3 get at receiver.
5. KLM - Nothing "sexy" about this prospect other than effort/demeanor. Still though, either as a 6th lineman who we'd probably plug in there in 4-3 situations, or as the 5th LB in this class, I don't see the harm in bringing in a 4 star prospect from the state of Texas. Gotta get more consistent at pulling guys away from there.
(2nd tier guys include...)
6. Milton Knox - I think the ship has sailed with Cyrus Gray, so I'm on to Milton. A 2nd RB who has a very different style than Jonas Gray could only be a good thing IMO. That said, I'm not expecting anything big to come of this one - at least not from what I see as of mid-December.
7. Nick Perry - Again, I can dream, but it probably won't happen. Still, he'd probably be the best candidate to play OLB of the three "tweener" guys we're still at least sniffing around for.
8. Chris Harper - Maybe this is just me, but guys who are sworn to a certain position just rub me the wrong way. That's a "me" move that I just don't like all that much. Now, I'm not saying the kid doesn't know something I don't, so he may be sticking to his guns for good reason. That said, I say if he wants to go play QB in college, let him. I've long given up day-dreaming on him as a defensive prospect.

I know that Nick Perry's name has come up around here lately, but isn't all wasted posts since he doesn't even have an offer, that I know of anyway. I understand that CB stopped by to see him when he went to see Gray, but where's the offer. It just seems that this kid is turning into the late recruiting seasons Major - everyone wants him but CW.

Perry does not have an offer yet because they are still evaluating his performance, his academic credentials, and his real interest in ND. ND had not offered him previously for two reasons. First of all he basically came out of nowehere with a phenomenal senior season, and secondly, until Carr resigned, and the UM coaching search became a merry-go-round, it was expected that Perry would end up at scUM. Perry may never see an ND offer, but I would not categorize the reason for that as being everyone wants him but CW.

Charlie has always said that he would make the final choice about whether a recruit would recieve an offer. I can't see Corwin waisting his time visiting Perry if the staff was not at least considering giving him an offer.

My list...
1. Kenneth Page - Same as what Calves said. He is a stud O-lineman and we need to ensure the O-line is a strength of ours where is was our #1 detrement this year.
2. Deion Walker - (6'4", 186 lbs, 4.43 forty #4 WR in country on rivals) He is a true WR and would be the highest ranked WR we could get (#9 on scout who lists him 6'3" 185 lbs 4.45 forty). He could contribute earlier than GR IMO and versatility is not a premium to me. Bringing in the best at a position is what I would prefer.
3. Gerell Robinson - On paper, he looks like a potentially good WR or an athlete comparable to Will Hill (GR just a tenth slower on the 40 time) who could be a stud safety. He is #3 as opposed to #2 because of my comments about versatility above. I still hope we get him, but not at the expense of DW.
4. A front 7 defensive player. Coaches know best on this one. Nick Perry will have plenty of time to consider ND if he so chooses. Datone Jones and KLM... I don't know. I would think whoever could play OLB best we should prefer, but Perry's stats are impressive. Not sure what Perry's verbal would do to the other D-lineman (excluding NTs) we already have as it relates to upsetting them in terms of numbers.
5. Chris Harper - I almost put him at 4. My thought on him is simple, he is a freak of an ATH who you simply would love to have (a bit like Greg Little). I don't know what position; WR, QB, TB, DB, LB, KR, PR? I see him going to K-State and doing well at QB.
That's it. I don't see the need for another TB. Personally, I like Knox and he seems like a great kid who would fit in with the team. I think we are set at TB though. Maybe both Crist and Knox are here 5 years together though? Calves, you mentioned that he and Gray are different. How so?
