lol that's good, but seriously our D has really impressed me this year. Brown is doing this with not the most talented defense, just not fast enough yet, but Walls, Smith, Neal all bring that and their all young. I like the future especially with the recruits coming in (please come)

I think our D is getting better, making plays, not giving up a ton on the ground, and playing w/ confidence. Our offense needs to begin w/ ES, and end w/ better protection, and holes for the RB.

Brian Smith is unbelieable. Rick Minter had gobbs of tape on the kid and he would've crawled to South Bend and he still didn't offer him. I truly believe that a main component to his exciting play comes from the fact that Brian WANTS to be here!! Unfortunately, the O line is just.....I don't know how to describe it.

While he may not have been as good - he could still contribute and add depth - we need defensive bodies and he satiates the need.

I think Lionel was referring to how Smith wants to be here and some on the O line are unsure about that. You both are correct though.

Thank you ND Grandson, that is exactly what I meant!

Outside of Zibby's missed tackles & Wooden's putrid pass defense, I'm pleased w/ Corwin Brown's defense.
I can't explain it, but I just knew a turnover was going to ensue on that BC drive that Smith capitalized. The two holding penalties on the screens & then Kuntz knocks down the pass. I thought that was an omen & Sharpley would lead them to victory. Then reality kicked in & Sharpley turned into Clausen & ND got beat by a minimum of 2 TDs....AGAIN.

Problems with this team:
O-line
QB
That's pretty much it. I like our RBs, I like our WRs, I like our defense. Right now the O line is pathetic. Right now Jimmy is not a D1 QB. He stares down receivers for what seems like days and he is not making all the throws. Maybe he's not 100% healthy, I don't know.
But yeah, this team will never put up double digit points without some scoring from the D or ST.

Jimmy is a D1 QB, in fact you put him in alot of other offenses right now and he is probably doing pretty well. ND has no rushing attack, the OLIne doesn't protect real well, QB is hard enough when you got that going.
By the way I think Sharpley should start so I'm not a Jimmy apoligist

Jimmy is a freshman QB. You can't deny that he stares all day at his target. I don't think he's as mobile as Sharpley, either. He might not be 100% healthy. And I'm not trying to dog him, I do think he'll be a great QB. I sure hope so, anyway.

I think JC will be really good. There is a reason why so few frosh qbs start, mostly due to really bad situations (see UCLA). They aren't physically and mentally ready for it.
ES should start this year, and in spring, give them both a chance to compete for the qb job next year.

The most aggrevating aspect of the season is that the teams we've played are not as good as we thought they would be. Anybody here think Boston College is a legit top 5 team? I don't! Anybody here impressed with Purdue, Michigan State, Michigan, Penn St. Ga. Tech? I'm not! If the Irish had an AVERAGE O line, not a good or pretty good O line an AVERAGE O line, we would be at worst--5-2! People can talk about Clausen vs Sharpley or Golden Tate vs George West or any other skill position matchup. However, none of it matters for shit because our O line can't block. Lou Holtz used to refer to the O line as the team's ENGINE....well right now our engine is stalled!!
I'm very impressed w/ Corwin and our defense and am very optimistic of its future. This is the most important recruiting season ND will ever have. If there isn't significant improvement on a weekly basis we could be in trouble. There is already rumblings of Pete Carrol going after Omar Hunter, and with UK beating LSU don't think for 1 minute that the UK coaching staff hasn't been in touch w/ Brandon Newman, trust me the Zooker will never give up on Fleming and Filer.
And I don't have to mention the added drama of the Carufel situation as it pertains to Mike Floyd. I have hope that Weis can turn it around, hell, he better turn it around because another coaching change could ruin the program..I mean who would really want the job? Take a look and see how the program has been run the last 8 years. Would we be able to find an A list coach? Would we be able to get an up and comer like Brian Kelly @ U of Cin. I doubt it. The perception of the ND job is not what it was when Lou took over. In fact, I doubt there are many out there who desire it at all, as we found out when Davie got fired. Stoops, Bellotti, Ferentz, and Houston Nutt all refused to even INTERVIEW. Even Gary Barnett said he didn't want it and I'm convinced when Barnett was coaching, that wasn't a play call sheet he had is his hand...it was his resume!
Weis has to improve this team and it begins and ends w that O line!!! After the season he'll probably have to make adjustments to his staff-there probably is one guy gone for sure (Polian I'm talking to you) and maybe Latina goes too who knows? I appologize for this rant and don't mean to sound too negative, but I'm tired of seeing my beloved ND as punchline on Jay fuckin Leno and being mocked on Saturday Nite Live and all the talking heads on ESPN layin the wood on us...I'M FUCKING TIRED OF THIS!!!!!!

Latina? Haywood?
As far as players.....I don't really want to speculate too much outside of the gold club forum. I hope they all stay, but I'm sure some will feel the need to vamanos.

Really Stoney...Haywood? I couldn't tell you exactly what he does. I know he coaches RB's and I think he is in charge of personnel groupings but am not sure. Anyone know for sure? The more I think about the more I'm convinced that losing David Cutcliffe from the staff bcuz of his health issue at the time really hurt us. I think his experience w the college game wuold be invaluable to weis
