Just got the latest ND catalog. They sell three different throwback jerseys. I'll try to post pics, but one is a 1987 Tim Brown that is an exact replica. The old tear-away w/ Appliqué numbers. Another is a Daryle Lamonica long sleeve white jersey that is sharp. The third one is an old style Knute Rockne jersey. The Tim Brown will probably appeal to most fans, but I like the Lamonica. Anyway, since there's so much hubbub on the Shamrock Series jerseys, i thought that this would be a nice, albeit more pricey, alternative.

Dodger, are these priced as something to wear or something to get framed and hang on your wall?

One thing my dumb ass has learned over the years is if you're going to buy a jersey either get one that doesn't have a name on the back (like college jerseys) or if you're going to get a pro team, get a throwback jersey (or retired player's jersey). The college one you can keep using for whatever player is wearing that current #. If you get a current pro jersey the guy you are representing could end up being a dick/disgrace/terrible/whatever a few years later (ex: Chad "Ocho Cinco" Johnson). Of course a retired guy can disgrace himself as well (any Buffalo Bill O.J. Simpson fans out there?), but at least you know the guy has been established for he did for the team.

Id say for wearing. In true ND fashion there are no names. Brown's jersey is unmistakable by the style & the fact that there's not a lot of famous 81s.

You're spot on regarding NFL jerseys. My biggest reason is that players are rarely w/ one team for very long, which is another reason I prefer CFB over NFL. I hate to tell you but OJ Simpson throwbacks sell...granted u won't see a white guy wearing one.

Here's what they look like: http://www.bkstr.com/NavigationSearchDisplay/10001-4294855526+4294869748-10900-1?demoKey=d&navActionType=addNewRefinement

Is it just me or is Brown's jersey completely wrong?

1380

I wish that when people do "throwback jerseys" they actually looked like what they are modeled after.

It looks more like a tear-away jersey than the one he's wearing in your pic which I assume was his senior season. Also, the throwback had numbers on the shoulders & the ND on the sleeves. I don't recall ND having both...it's usually the numbers or the interlocking ND on the sleeve as is the case in your pic.

Again, I prefer the Lamonica jersey. Imagine if Parseghian had arrived a few years earlier & gotten to coach the "Mad Bomber"?

But that is the year he won the Heisman and the year they are making the claim it is from. If you are going to do it, do it right or call it a semi-throwback.

Funny thing is is look at how big those shoulder pads are he's wearing. Boy how times have changed.

Lamonica jersey is the best, although, I am not sure if it is an ND or Jets jersey.

A couple of rants:

a. Brown's jersey isn't from his senior year. They didn't have numbers on the shoulders his senior year. Error in the catalog.
b. Why celebrate Lamonica? The 1962 season was godawful, and Kuharich's unis aren't exactly emblematic of the golden years of ND football.

A. I have already pointed this out - it is all wrong no matter what year.
B. Because he is Daryle F'ing Lamonica - it is a different jersey than what we usually see out there for a guy that most ND fans talk little about.

KMac, in Holtz's first year they had NDs on the sleeves and numbers on the shoulders.

I finally took the time to look at this, I think I get what you're saying.

The 1987, Heisman winning season, looked like this:

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.aolnews.com/media/2009/04/tim-brown-notre-dame-college-football-hall-of-fame-2009-150.jpg

But the "throwback" is incorrectly labeled as 1987 when in fact it's 1986 or earlier, correct? Like the pic below:

The mistake is pretty bad. You'd think the marketing department would do a little homework to get it right. Even so though, I like the Timmy Brown uni. Might put that on my Christmas list.

Yes, but it is still a hack of a job recreating that. And like you said why celebrate THAT season instead of his senior year when he WON the Heisman.

Don't blame Lamonica for playing for a bad coach. He just barely missed paling for Ara....had he, I'm confident he would've been a Heisman candidate. Nick Buoniconti had a throwback made for the bookstore last year. He played on some shitty teams, too.

Heck, I really like the Knute Rockne era jersey- so much different than anything else and you could wear it more often. I always feel self conscious wearing a jersey outside of a saturday yard day, camping or at a athletic event.

THanks for the pics...that clears things up. You're right that's not the '87 model but at least it's a true replica. Looks like the old tear-aways that were popular in the 70s-80s

I bought it. I like it so far. It's not really a sweatshirt per se. It's like a rugby shirt in it's heaviness. I like it so far, but the felt logo is a bit fuzzy.

That would slow us down more than recruiting midwestern white dudes with long last names.
