Marcus has been offered per Scout.
According to Scout
OFFERS: UF MIA MIS ND RU
Miami would seem the logical favorite but back in January he expressed a desire to get out of the city and experience different things. RU camper last summer.

Are the coaches at Northwestern the same coaches that were in the documentary Year of the Bull. I know it's the same school, just wondering if they still have coaches who fight their teenaged players. Just like the principal said, they have a great football program, not a team, a program.

He blew up this weekend. He was the best players at FNL and F$U camp. Sounds like Rivals will give him a fifth star. He mentions that FL big 3 are his top 3 and how he wants to check out ND. The only reason he doesn't mention them in his top 3 is b/c he hasn't been on campus yet.
That said he's a Miami lean.

if he comes to ND for a visit that goes a long way to getting ND on a recruits short list( but we all know that)

If they can get him on campus I think they have a better shot at him then people would think.

if this is true, Urbie must be feeling a bit of a sting seeing as he just hosted and rolled out the red carpet for Marcus for Friday Night Lights this past weekend...sorta like Forston felt after the visit, "these guys are all full if themselves at UF, im either staying home or comin up to play w/ Bobby"...to announce that UF is OUT so soon after FNL is comical.

that's what puzzled me about seeing UF out already. Forston talked about how he liked the coaches and everything. He also stated he was going to take one official visit out of state to either Notre Dame or USC. And all along it seemed like it'd be to the Bend

Forston is OUT, (big seat on the bus now ready to be filled) so let's get those offers out to Harper and Walker ASAP!...hell, there are rumors that Walker HAS an offer already...to make matters crazier, word out of the Compton camp that he may commit to Nebraska TOMORROW or the day after....if the kid can hang in there ONE or TWO days....maybe he gets his offer?...still i'd rather see it on WR and OL at this point for us, unless its a bonifide 5 star guy on D i.e. Hale, A Brown, etc (even if sabino is Irish)

prolly better for Charlie and Corwin that if he wasnt irish, that he announced when he did.
i gotta admit i really thought Corwin could have got him here...he would have basically spent the whole fall and early winter focusing his entire recruiting effort on keeping in touch w/ the verbals, getting the 2009's out...and Marcus.
oh well we move on, i like who we have anyway, and who am i kidding, after way ifelt after LOI day this year i prolly would have been ecstatic to just have Newman at this point for the d-line.

I'll have to respectfully disagree about extending more offers because Forston picked "The U".
- Forston was one of the few guys good enough to hold a spot for no matter what. If anything, a replacement candidate for his "spot" would come from within the current offer list (i.e. Baldwin, Patchan), not Harper or Walker.
- Forston is a DL prospect, so I fail to see a correlation between him and prospects at WR and LB, respectfully.
- Unless we see some transfers or early departures from the team, there are 3-5 spots available in this class. With the following kids offered and interested - J. Brown, Sabino, Lewis-Moore, Patchan, Page, Robinson, Forst, R. Williams, Thomas, Floyd, Baldwin - doesn't it make more sense to at least let the summer come to a close, before you fire off a scholarship offer at the drop of just one prospect?
Its only July folks, there's no pressing need to tinker with the offer list. Heck, most of the guys here at GH are still trying to think of ways to bring in Baldwin and Jeremy Brown in the same group without sacrificing other positions, so lets just sit tight for a moment. Why exacerbate the problem by adding more kids with offers? Space is already tight - Forston going elsewhere could be a blessing in disguise for someone who already has an offer.
I know that its the nature of most fans is like NDisNC. A small part of all of us wants the newest, "sexiest" name that is out there - which nowadays is Harper, Walker, Compton, etc. But when your class is rolling like ours, sometimes you gotta let things unfold on their own.

People get too caught up in recruiting. My friend is on the staff at Miami and called Marcus in front of me one night and told me he was waiting to verbal he just wanted to enjoy the process, well I guess he got tired of it. Compton will not get an offer. We have 4 LB commits already and will only take a 5th for Sabino and Sabino only. Sabino can play OLB for us and Compton is an ILB prospect.
Marcus didn't have a spot I've been told and that our staff was still recruiting him because he was deciding on NSD and if any of our DL decommitted by then we wouldn't have fallen behind any in the Forston sweepstakes. If Harper gets an offer it won't be because of Forston commiting because they have nothing to do with each position wise. The only new offers I see going out for a while if at all are Deion Walker and Harper.
Right now it's a squeeze game and theres little room left with elite prospects that have us in their top tier. So theres no need to "settle" for somebody else when we're already wondering if we should take 4 star studs like Jeremy Brown. Kick back and relax because we've never experienced recruiting like this before. Omar Hunter is the man Forston strives to be.

great post Calves. I agree with you whole-heartedly. the only thing i would say is that we get an offer out to Deion Walker ASAP. Only b/c he's a special talent. I feel really good about Floyd and Jeremy Brown and think they have no effect on Walker's offer, but I do think that Butler & Baldwin could be lumped into a group with Walker, and if we got 1 of the 3, I'd be happy. If we got 2 of the 3, then I'd be ecstatic. Hearing that Yeatman will be gone after the year, that leaves 1 more schollie open. I do think we need some for next year's class but if you're going to get another elite WR, why not? Plus the odds are against us that Butler will be Irish, he'll probably end up a Nole (even though there have been some speculation USC has caught up). I just think if we miss on Butler and then offer goes out to Walker, then it kinda looks like we only offered b/c we missed on Butler. I'm going off on a tangent now, but I really feel good about this class, and the only offer I'd get out there ASAP would be Walker's.

Right on Knight, I just want to say I have really enjoyed your posts over here at GH. I dont know if it's because you expanded your horizons from DD and now you're all over the Irish Recruiting circuit or that you've just been this Crazy Recruitnik trapped in a normal poster's body, but you have really contributed over and it's much appreciated.
It was obvious that Marcus was a Miami Lock, we all knew that. The only thing we could really speculate on was getting him to SB, and CB workin' his magic. Now that he's verballed to the "U", I'm kinda glad we dont have to speculate on him anymore. Now I get to speculate on our Offensive Targets ;)

First Forston and some of his comrades visit Tennesse...and now he is visiting UNC...hmmm.
This guy sure seems to be "lookin" around a lot lately.
Perhaps all this b/c of a new HC and staff at his HS...seems like all the Northwestern guys that are committed to UM are doing a lot of looking lately.
possibly as innocent as just "taking officials" , free road trip, to have fun with the "recruiting process"...but ya never know.

I beleive during the after hours of new years I was talking to my friend at the party who works on the Miami football staff and I brought up how much they suck like I always do and somehow Forston came up in the conversation and he showed me his number in his cell phone along with Jordan Futch......I was gonna drunk dial them later in the night but forgot of course.....haha just thought I'd share that story....he tells me some funny and rather disgusting Urban Meyer recruiting stories as well that the Miami commits often tell him.

Knight, you should call Forston and ask him if there is any truth to the rumor of him now taking a visit up to North Carolina...Lemming is saying while he doesnt think it will amount to anything he says to keep in mind that the coach who pulled Marvin Austin at the 11th hour last year (away from FSU) is the same one he is going to see...to be sure TL did say that despite this visit that he still thinks MF ends up at Miami especially now that A Brown is there and that they are becoming real close friends at the AA game, so much so that A Brown wants to switch from the West team to the East team so he and Marcus can play together Saturday.
