I kind of have the same thoughts nd23. I think the defense will have what Herbstreit calls a new attitude in N.D. As far as the offense goes Charlie has recruited extemely well the last two years. Remember the biggest gripe about recruiting the last two years was the lack of defensive numbers Charlie was able to get. But even when we do come out and surprise people we all know what comes next. (WEAK SCHELDULE).

First off, that's one of my fav.ND clips on YouTube..thanks for the refresher. I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't think that this season will be a carbon copy of 2005. I hope I'm wrong. I don't think we'll as bad as the pundits predict, but our schedule demands near perfection from the 'get go'. If the first half & second half of the schedule were reversed, it could bode better. My main reason for this thinking, is that rarely does an ND season play out the way the fans expect (lately at least) for better or for worse. I remember NC talk in Davie's 3rd year b/c it happened w/ so many other ND coaches and his third year happened to end in double digits, '99 (ala '66, '77 & '88). I believe ND ended up 5-6.

-----I agree. I also don't think we'll start the way the jackoff Mark Mays of the world predict us to either. We don't have a 2 year returning starter QB like Quinn and many others. We have the peaces to make this a very successful season, but I just don't see a carbon copy of 05, not with the low ass numbers in the Jr. and Sr classes.

Every season is mutually exclusive from the ones before it.

This year's team is going to have to win a lot of games by playing with superior effort. That comes from having good conditioning, which it sounds like this team has.

They are going to have to be smart. Not much margin for error with a young, inexperienced group. I don't know that they can really out-talent a lot of teams on their schedule, so to speak, so they'll need to be prepared mentally. That comes from coaching, which I believe this team has.

They will need very good special teams. I think the kick return teams look good, the punter is very good but the kicking game is anyone's guess.

Looking ahead to anything but the game in front of you this year is foolish. I still believe this schedule divides into three parts: Four games that are toss ups, four games where they are legit dogs adn four games that they absolutely should not lose under any circumstances.

After watching the practice at ND on Saturday, I don't feel good about the kicking game. Most of the kicks missed were just outside of the post when they missed, but with 3 weeks away that is not good enough. With our young team, we need to be able to count on a kicker to get us 3 and not have to go for it on 4th down. I am worried about the extra point right now as well.
