Brayden Scott was looking forward to visiting South Bend to see Notre Dame play Navy last weekend, but the junior quarterback from Tahlequah, Okla., (Sequoyah) had to cancel because of a miscommunication with school administrators.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder was understandably upset, but knows he’ll have more chances.

“It’s a good thing I’m a junior,” he said. “I’ve got another year left and there’s still more home games I can go to. I would definitely like to go up there this year.”

As much as Scott would like the chance to get up to South Bend for the Boston College game on Nov. 19, he’d rather be playing in the playoffs, which will start soon after Sequoyah finished the regular season 7-2.

“It’s kind of a yes-and-no, hopefully thing,” Scott laughed about the possibility of visiting Notre Dame this season.

Scott already has offers from Arkansas, Arizona, Clemson and Tulsa while receiving plenty of interest from other elite BCS programs.

“I’ve been getting mail from Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Oregon State, Oregon,” he said. “I’ve been getting a lot of mail each and every day.”

Scott has already taken visits to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Tulsa and Alabama and was looking forward to his trip to Notre Dame.

“Notre Dame, Texas and probably USC are probably the top colleges out there for the past decade, past 50 years,” he said. “I’ve always watched Notre Dame since I was a little kid. Me and my dad have always watched Notre Dame.”

Scott’s most recent visit was to Alabama and he enjoyed meeting with Nick Saban and his staff.

“It was real awesome,” he said of his trip to Tuscaloosa. “It was first class and everything they did was just amazing. Going in that stadium, seeing over 100,000 people screaming and yelling the whole time, it was a real good deal to see I got to talk to Coach Saban a little bit and the offensive coordinator. I’m going to go up there again.”

Scott will be going back Alabama this weekend for the huge showdown with LSU and expects to continue building that relationship.

“They said that they liked my film and they’d really like to see me there this summer so they can work out with me at their camp,” he said.

Scott threw for over 2,000 yards and 25 touchdowns against only four interceptions last season while rushing for another 10 scores and more than 600 yards. He’s already passed the 2,000-yard passing mark and 500-yard rushing mark during the regular season for Sequoyah.

Scott considers himself a pro-style quarterback, but he can certainly make plays with his feet and was clocked at 4.43 in the 40-yard dash at Oklahoma’s camp this summer. Scott believes he’d be a fit in Brian Kelly’s system.

“All quarterbacks like to throw the ball and they throw the ball a lot,” he said of the Irish. “I’m the type of guy, I like to set up the run a little bit and when I do throw, I like to get in that five-wide, four-wide receivers, shotgun, Air Raid type offense. That’s kind of the offense that they run.

“I’ve been watching Coach Kelly and his offense and I like the offense that they run. Notre Dame is Notre Dame. It’s one of the top colleges in the country. Who wouldn’t want to go there? That’s the way I feel right now. I like the way they’re doing things right now.”

Scott would also embrace the idea of playing on the big stage a school like Notre Dame would offer.

“Also what I like about Notre Dame is just that pressure, the pressure of being at Notre Dame,” he said. “You’ve got to do good each and every week, there’s no bye week, where we can beat these guys. Every week is a pressure week and I like that pressure.”

Scott is hoping to narrow his list sometime soon.

“I’d like to limit my options down and start thinking about where my future is,” he said. “I’d like for Notre Dame to be one of those options that I can choose from.”
