Anyone going to be attending..Im going to try to get to some of the games...Atleast the one's in Cincy...I dunno bout the ones up north...but some really great games this year...
Massilon games..
*Omar Hunters Buford team is taking on Grove City of Ohio..they are a pretty big power house in the lower division...
*Ted Ginn Sr's team Glenville is taking on a power house in Long Beach Poly
*McCarthys power house Cardinal Moony team is taking on Shayne Hales team
*Power house Canton McKinley is taking on another power house in Tulsa OK
Then there are the games in Cincy that Im going to...
*Two great catholic schools in Cincy Lasalle and Indy Cathedral
*The big time game of Cincy Colerain..one of the best div. 1 teams in Ohio vs the GREAT Hoover High...two a days on mtv team..
*Cincy Moeller vs Mission Viejo, CA...Konrad Reulands brothers team
*Cincy Elder...Kyle Rudolphs team vs Independence, NC...team has won like 80 something games in a row...something crazy like that...cant wait to see that game..I will report back on that one...
*Cincy St. X...ranked in the top 5 in the nation...vs Dematha, MD...Kenny Tates team...power house catholic school from DC
*Clayton Northmont vs historic Central Catholic of PA...Dan Marinos team
*Trotwood Madison...team with Brandon Moore the TE that picked Mich. after our bus was filled up..they have like 11 div. 1 players on the team vs Highlands KY...a powerhouse from northern KY
Its going to be a great event....I think last year it lost like $200,000....but Herbie and some others paid out of their own pocket...HOpefully this year the games will attract some bigger crowds...I will report back on the games I go to..

how did Herbstreit pull this whole thing off anyway??
we all know him but does the average person in America? did he even start a game in the NFL? what did he do at OSU?
i think his name on the event (besides being a wee bit egotistical) does nothing to create interest...no surprise he had to bail out his whole event...i hate espn for lot of reasons (MONOPOLY!, creating a BOO-YAH NAtion) ever since ABC Disney bought them its been one big "sell job" night after night IMO)...but i think this Herbsteit audacity to be a big deal with this event puts me over the edge.

They were pretty good when they had Javon Ringer. Faust's pa coached there, which is why I mentioned them. A lot of my family went there, too.
And Alter will always suck in my book. :p

must be nice to have big time high school football in your state. We are such a basketball/soccer state up here in CT you kinda wish you had something to do on Friday nights/ Saturdays afternoons...

Yea I would rank OH #4 in high school football talent behind FL, CA, and TX....plus one of the best football leagues in the country is the GCL...The Ohio teams did pretty well last year...Cincy St. X took #1 Lakeland, FL to ot and lost by a field goal...

Now I know why they lost so much money and the attendence was poor...the event is scheduled the same day as the opening of college football...Of course everyone will be watching the Irish that day...but maybe the OSU fans will be able to get to a few games after halftime of their game..I mean they will be up by about 30 or so with YSU...

i think Forston school down in Liberty City...one small snag though, the entire coaching staff got fired about a month ago by Rudy Crew, the Miami Schools chancellor.

Might as well call them a feeder school for the Cans!

Um the rankings I saw the other day were
1) Miami (FL) Northwestern
2) Southlake Caroll (TX)...how convenient for ESPN that both are #1 and #2 and meet this year
3) Notre Dame (CA)...Crist and McDonalds school
4) Charlotte Independence (NC)
5) Cinciy (OH) St. X

Northwestern is Forston school...i predict they win all their games even without coaches. kids are studs. about 15 D-1 prospects on the team, even the scrubs have offers to 1-AA teams.

I dunno..that spread offense of Southlake Carroll is bringing back alot of players...their qb was going to TX to be an athlete...but his dad..who was the Southlake coach the last couple of years took the North Texas job so his son is going there..and their running back Tre Newton is going to TX..they run a spread offense..put up alot of points..battle btw FL and TX...and I like the TX team..BUT the game is on ESPNU..what the heck!!!..alteast Crist teams game is on ESPN2 so I can watch that one..

I dont think St.X could take Northwestern or Southlake...but it would be a great game..They should have an 8 team high school football playoffs...I know never could happen..

Why not? Undefeated Lakeland, FL. was very lucky to escape with an overtime win against St. X. last season. The Bombers return much of that team. Maybe not ND guys, but there are a good numbers of DI players on the team and there aren't many better coached teams in the country. As much as I hate to say it.

Lakeland was 5A...Northwester is 6A..with like 15 D.1 players...an Elite 11 QB..Lakelands qb wasnt that great...the team is stacked..St. X just didnt have nearly that much talent..plus that game last year was played in St.X's back yard..They are a great team..I just dont know if they are better then Northwester or even Southlake..

Ohio isn't as deep talent-wise as Florida, but I'd put our top teams up against anybody.
YoungIrish

Thats what this tournament if for...Ohio has held its own the last couple of years...but in the markee matchup games we tend to lose...De La Salle was pretty impressive last year beating Elder...Moeller gave the team from SC a good game..and Lakeland beat St. X barely...but I think this year Colerain will beat Hoover...the Elder vs Independence game will be good..and I think Cardinal Mooney can take Shayne Hales team...
napoleonbuck
08-01-2007, 01:43 PM
I think some of the matchups though are there for political reasons, and that hurts Ohio's record, such as Grove City playing this year, or Findlay playing last year.
YoungIrish, most people regard 5A to be the tougher division in Florida than 6A. No doubt Miami Northwestern is loaded with talent, but there are probably only a handful of teams in the nation that can match Xavier's depth, coaching, and conditioning. They won't have the high college prospects, but they'll have plenty, couple that with disciplined play, and they can beat anyone.
I also wouldn't expect too much out of Elder(at least not with their opponent). Elder should be good in Ohio, but they're probably third in the GCL, so I wouldn't be expecting them to hang with Independence. Same thing goes for Moeller against Mission Viejo and Glenville against Long Beach Poly. I expect the Ohio teams to be significant underdogs in those games. All the other ones either favor Ohio or are legitimate toss ups IMO.

Lakeland's winning OT field goal hit the damn cross bar and fell over ... grrrrrr.
If you can stand the heat, the games are a lot of fun to watch.

MNW is great, but they dont have 15 D-1A players. They have alto but not 15. Plus their entire staff got fired not to long ago. Thats cant be underestimated on how well they will do. THE ENTRIE STAFF thats alot of adjustments and schemes to learn for a highschool team.
