Travis is a teammate of ND offered OT Kyle Murphy and is saying that the Irish are showing interest in him, but at this point in time it is doubtful that he will actually see an Irish offer. Travis has four offers to date, from Washington, Utah, Colorado, and Arizona State. He is also hearing from Oregon State, LSU, Nebraska, and Oregon, in addition to Notre Dame.

San Clemente Duo Interested In ND

Notre Dame has already offered a number of California prospects early on in the 2012 class in hopes of beating the in-state schools to the punch. Doing so has allowed the Irish to be in good standing with a lot of these recruits, and they’ve even got the commitment of one of the top defensive backs in the state and in the country with Tee Shepard.

With so many West coast players showing interest it’s no surprise that the Irish have been keeping in touch with two more players from San Clemente High School (San Clemente, Calif.) in quarterback Travis Wilson and offensive tackle Kyle Murphy.

Murphy, who stands 6-foot-7, 275 pounds, has already received a verbal offer from Notre Dame as well as many other BCS schools.

“I have 16 offers as of right now,” said Murphy. “I have visited Stanford, California, and USC, and they’ve impressed me quite a bit with everything they have to offer. I will be visiting Oregon next week, and I hope to visit Notre Dame also.

“Even though Notre Dame’s pretty far away, they’re considered one of the best traditional programs in the country. They’re just a really good overall school from what I understand.

“Those schools are probably the ones that stick out to me right now.”

The miles between San Clemente and South Bend has weighed on the mind of the junior, but he is trying to remain open-minded and consider all options.

“Distance might be a factor I consider, but I’m not sure yet,” said the junior lineman. “I might want to go away from home for college, so that’s why I want to take all my visits and try and figure everything out.

“I’m hoping to get out to Indiana because I’ve never been to that part of the country before. I don’t think I’ll make it out there this spring because of other obligations, but I’m pretty sure I will take one of my official visits there.”

Even though he has already taken a few visits, Murphy doesn’t see himself making a decision about his college future anytime soon.

“I’ll narrow it down after I take some trips and experience the campuses first hand,” he said. “I want to see where I fit in socially and see which college has the right feel for me. I want a good, solid football program with good coaches. I will also be looking for good academics. I carry a 3.95 g.p.a, so I want a school that takes academics seriously.”

When Notre Dame visited San Clemente last, Murphy wasn’t the only Triton they were interested in. Quarterback Travis Wilson had also caught the Irish coach’s eye and according to Murphy he can understand why.

“He’s an awesome guy to have around, and I have been playing with him ever since we were little,” said the San Clemente tackle. “He’s a big guy and just a freak of an athlete. Just the way he moves, he can throw the ball, and he can run the ball.

“He’s a great player to have on your team because he can just pretty much do it all.”

Wilson has all the characteristics of the prototypical quarterback. He stands 6-foot-6, 215 pounds, has a rocket arm, and can escape the rush when pressured.

Many schools have already inquired about the junior with a few of those recruiters already extending offers.

“I have received four offers so far,” said Wilson. “The offers I have are from Washington, Utah, Colorado, and Arizona State. I’m also hearing from Oregon State, LSU, Nebraska, Oregon, and Notre Dame.”

It was a pleasant surprise for Wilson when he heard the Irish were asking about him.

“It would definitely be a school I would be interested in,” said the quarterback. “It is definitely a school I grew up watching and it’s one of my favorites.

“I went to Notre Dame’s camp last year, and I really liked the campus. It was really beautiful, and I also liked the tradition they have there. The fact that they are very competitive makes me like them a lot.”

The San Clemente quarterback has a certain set of criteria he will be looking at while he is evaluating colleges.

“The school I choose will definitely have to be a good fit for me,” he said. “It will have to be a place I could get a great education just in case football doesn’t work out.

“I will also look at team’s depth charts for quarterbacks and see how soon I could start playing.

“Distance will not play a factor in my decision. My parents know that I want to be a professional football player, so if I have to go away, I’ll have to go away.”

Until that time comes, Wilson is very happy that his blindside will be well protected by big, old number 78 for at least one more season.

“Kyle is a great player,” said the quarterback. “He’s a great leader on our team. He’s always fired up and does a great job every play.

“I’m very happy he’s my left tackle.”

I will definitely go to some San Clemente games this year if we are still in the hunt for either of these guys.
