The Irish have been striking out on STA offered recruits the last couple of years, but they would probably have a very good shot with Drake if they decide to offer him. The big question is whether Tyler is offerable by ND or any other school. As of now he holds no FBS offers, although he says he has been receiving a lot of interest from Northwestern, Miami, Notre Dame, and Iowa. BC, Stanford, Wake Forest, and Wisconsin are also showing interest.
Tyler visited the ND campus as recently as a few weeks ago and he has also visited South Bend in the past. Last year he lead STA in sacks with 8 1/2, and also in TFL's with 20 1/2.
STA is ranked by ESPN as the pre-season #1 HS team nationally for 2011. Interestingly enough although they have 10 Class of 2012 recruits listed in the Rivals database only 3 of them have FBS offers so far. Drake is also the only one of the 10 who lists ND as a school of interest. It will be interesting to see if the Irish try to get involved with any of the other STA's kids or whether they have decided the FBS talent there this year is lacking to the point where this year it may not be worth the considerable effort that the Irish have put into unsuccessfully recruiting STA kids the past few years. Also long time STA Head Coach George Smith has stepped down now, although he will still be involved as the STA AD.
