looks like Brendan Beachum (PSU) and Taylor Hill (OU), both from Mooney in Youngstown announced over the weekend, and are going "out of state" to play ball.
calves-did they have O$U offers?
just curious. glad to see a chink in the "Mooney guys to OSU" pipleline armor.

I'm pretty sure they didn't have OSU offers

Im pretty sure that team is STACKED...and in OH you have Div 1-6...division 1 being the big boys..and I think Mooney is like Div4 or Div5...They play one of the toughest schedules in the state though...I think they are playing Shayne Hales team this year to...

I pretty sure the only one OSU offered was our very own Dan McCarthy.

Neither Beachum nor Hill had offers. I don't think both would have gotten offers for a few reasons. Beachum insists on being a runningback in college, where as the only way he would have gone to OSU is as a linebacker, or maybe a fullback.

Hill is a defensive end in high school, but he only weighs 205 and isn't very tall, so he's going to have to transition to linebacker. We have limited schollies this year, so I'm not sure our staff would have been comfortable taking such a project(has to learn a new position and put on around 25 pounds of muscle, no easy task).

Mooney has also never been an Ohio State pipeline. McCarthy was a Notre dame lean from the beginning. He was never included in any mock classes. Same goes for Zordich and Penn State. He was a Penn state lean from the beginning(regardless of what some optimistic Buckeye fans were telling people). There's not much you can do when two kids have such strong ties to other universities.

What about the DE Simon next year...Do you think ND will have a shot...seems like OSU is trying to get in early with him..The kid looks like a beast..

I don't know how BIG of a fan he is, but word on the street is he grew up a fan of the Buckeyes. I know Notre Dame is the other school that stands out to him early, but I think he really likes Ohio State. He came up for an entire week of camp, and was offered by Tressel in person. Tressel is also highly respected around the youngstown area and is friends with the coaches of almost all the Youngstown coaches and boosters.

Well Filer said it was OSU and scUM to top his list to begin with and we all know where that went. As my pappi used to say...."don't count your chickens before they hatch!" Plus you may love one school and have another be the right place for you to play football! Just sayin'!!!!!!

He says that, but I doubt that's all that true. His actions suggest that he favored Notre Dame for a long time. He may have known more about Ohio State and Michigan from their success, but everyone looked at him as a Notre Dame lean for the longest time.

This team is going to run the table and not even come close to getting beat in the playoffs.

That's actually not all that true. They're in probably the toughest region outside of the Cleveland division 1 region and the Cincinatti region one regions.

Steubenville is now in Mooney's region, and they've won their last 30 games and two state championships in a row at a higher division. They won't have the college prospects, but they're a lot like a small town texas school in that they're very disciplined and very intelligent. They do have quite a few athletes as well. St. Vincent St. Mary(my alma mater) is in that region, as is Canton Central Catholic. There are also some good publics in the region like Orrville, Manchester, and Tuslaw. Mooney will definitely be the favorite, but their road to the championship won't all be blowouts.

There are also some really good division four teams in the Dayton area as well, such as Kettering Alter.

They'll also have a tough time going undefeated. They open their season with Mentor(division one runner up last year, but they lost a lot of good players, but they return their division one QB and 3/4 receivers, and Mooney will have a weak secondary). They play Gateway(Shayne Hale, Cameron Saddler, and a potential five star junior linebacker and a bunch of other division one prospects) in the Herbie.

They have the talent, but they lost some really good o-linemen and they're kind of weak in the secondary, especially at the corners.

A passing team like Mentor could really give them a lot of trouble.
