Florida State extended a new offer today to Columbus (Miami, Fla.) High School defensive back Deon Bush.

“I found out this morning that Florida State, Miami and Boston College offered,” said Bush.

On Saturday night at the South Florida Express tryouts Bush put on a show. He displayed the ability to play press-coverage as a man-to-man corner, and the range to drop back to safety and play in space.

“I’m not sure where Florida State plans on playing me, I’m going to call coach (James) Coley later this week or tonight and ask them where they like me.”

Now that he has an offer in-hand, Bush is thinking about coming up to FSU’s Junior Day, in two weeks.

“I watched a lot of FSU this year.”

“Their secondary impressed me and I saw they had a real good recruiting class this year, that’s a good sign that they’re on track.”

Florida State already has a commitment for 2012 from one of Bush’s good friends, A.J. Leggett.

“Me and A.J. are real good friends, we played on the same basketball team in 8th grade.”

“I haven’t talked to him yet because the offer just came today, but I’m going to ask him a few questions.”

Bush also got an offer from Miami today.

“It’s like a dream come true, I grew up watching them and now they offered.”

Although it’s been a long time goal of his to get the UM offer, according to Bush this is not the end of his recruitment.

“I’m glad I got the offer, but my family doesn’t want me to make a decision based on location. They want me to make the best decision for my self and my education.”

For now, Bush has no timetable on making a decision. He says he’d like to see what offers come in over the next couple weeks, and then take a few visits in the spring and summer.

Safeties

Howard wasn’t the only veteran of the event to perform over the weekend. Miami (Fla.) Columbus defensive back Deon Bush also returned after helping lead the South Florida Express to a national championship last season. Bush also has added good weight and continues to be a force in coverage.

With good length, a frame that will add more good weight and great hips and instincts, Bush was one of the top players in attendance at any position. He attacks the football in the air and high-points the ball to perfection. He also looks remarkably comfortable in coverage at cornerback despite having the body of a safety.

Though Bush struggled catching the football at times, expect him to emerge as one of the most highly recruited prospects in Miami. Shortly after the weekend event, that ball got rolling.

Bush picked up offers from Miami, Florida State, Ohio State, Florida and Boston College among others. Suddenly, Bush is one of the most heavily recruited safeties in America.

DAVIE, Fla. – Deon Bush has quickly become one of the hottest recruiting targets in the country, and the Miami (Fla.) Columbus safety is currently the most touted prospect that competed at Sunday’s Under Armour Combine held at the Dolphins training facility on Sunday.

Bush is open to playing anywhere in the country. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Bush reports 15 scholarship offers from the likes of Alabama, Boston College, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Ohio State and Purdue, where his older brother Gary will be a red-shirt sophomore receiver.

“I’m keeping everything even right now,” Bush said, adding that he’s most familiar with Florida, Florida State, Miami and Alabama.

He recently attended the Hurricanes first junior day and planned to return to campus following the combine for another one.

“Miami, that’s a good school and I grew up watching them like every other kid in the Miami area,” Bush said. “They have a real cool coaching staff and you can tell they’re strictly business and trying to get the team back to the way they were.”

Bush could visit Florida this coming Saturday.

“The Gators, that’s a real good school, a real good defensive back school. They have experienced coaches and they have the style that can take me where I want to go."

In the near future, Bush would like make it out to Florida State and Alabama.

“Florida State, they have great tradition and they’re a top school nationally. They’re going to always be competing.

Hamilton attended Miami's first junior day and plans to be at Florida State next Saturday.“Alabama, Nick Saban, he only gets the best so it was a great honor to get offered by Alabama.”

With his older brother venturing out to the Midwest to play, Bush is also entertaining the thought of going up North to play his college football.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing with my brother, and that could be against my brother or with him,” Bush said.

Bush plans on taking all five of his official visits before making a final decision.

Defensive back

Best prospect

Deon Bush, Miami (Fla.) Columbus. Bush, who has raked in a double-digit offer count during recent weeks tested as good as advertised. The 6-foot-1, 177-pounder ran a 4.44-second 40-yard dash, 7.13 in the L-cone and bench pressed 185 pounds 17 times. While these numbers aren’t impressive as his actual football skill, they show that he’s the complete package and is one of the top prospects in south Florida for this recruiting cycle.

What is the latest on Miramar CB Tracy Howard and Columbus DB Deon Bush?

Bush has a host of offers, but for some reason I think he leaves the state of Florida. Early on I’m thinking Ohio State, but there is plenty of time for things to change as Bush hasn’t tipped his hand too much early.

READY TO TRIM LIST: Four-star safety Deon Bush from Columbus in Miami, Fla., is ready to trim down a long list of offers to a Top 10 as early as next week. Bush has already visited Miami, Florida, Georgia Tech and Purdue (where his brother plays).

Bush is hoping to visit many more schools this spring and summer including Florida State, Auburn, Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, LSU and North Carolina. His father, Gary Bush, told 247Sports that Miami, Alabama, Notre Dame and Ohio State are likely to be in his Top 10.

"We're looking at their graduation rate and that's one of the tops," the elder Bush said of Notre Dame. "They graduate 97-percent of their players and you can't beat that."

Rumor (always take with a grain of salt) is Florida is fading with Deon due to their depth chart at the DB position. Florida is also far away in the drivers seat for newly ND verbal offer Tracy Howard, who is projected at the DB position.

When coaches visit prospects early in the May evaluation period, it makes a big impact on recruits, but just because a player isn’t recruited right away, doesn’t mean they’re not high on a school’s board either.

Miami (Columbus High School) safety Deon Bush didn’t see any coaches from Notre Dame until Thursday, but there was a very good reason for the delay. South Florida recruiter Tony Alford wanted to make sure Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco was with him when he checked out Bush and Anthony Rabasa, who signed with the Irish in February.

Christopher Columbus High (Miami, FL) defensive back Deon Bush wrapped up his spring practices Friday afternoon with a scrimmage. Overall, the culmination of the spring was a positive one in the eyes of the 6-foot-1, 170-pounder.

“It went alright, we got a lot of work to do out here and it kind of showed us where our team was at,” Bush said. “It went better than I thought it was going to go, so that’s a plus. We just got to keep working through the summer to get better.”

After missing a few tackles from his free safety position in the scrimmage, Bush admitted afterwards it is something he needs to improve upon.

“I want to improve on being a better tackler,” Bush said. “You know I come up and make some plays, but I just step my game up a lot more.”

The physically gifted 2012 prospect has a host of offers including Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, LSU and Ole Miss. Miami and LSU both had assistants on hand to take in Bush’s scrimmage Friday and Bush expects to narrow down his options in the near future.

“I’ve been contact with a lot of schools in the spring, but now I’m in the process of narrowing it down before the summer,” Bush said. “I’m not sure yet, but my dad and I are going to talk about it.”

Bush was selected to play in the Army All-American Bowl in January, but he said a commitment from him would not necessarily take place during the game.

“I’m not sure yet, it could go anywhere between the Army game to tomorrow, you just never know.”

Bush is arguably one of the faster and more athletic safeties in this class. He still has some room to fill out and gain strength but is tall, long and rangy. Displays excellent speed and range. He is fast enough with the hips and movement skills to get recruited at corner; it may depend on how he continues to physically develop. Very productive and comfortable around the football in coverage. Puts himself in correct position to make a ton of plays. Soundly reads receivers and route development. Flashes great recovery speed, range and leaping skills in deep zone coverage. Shows very good timing and closing burst breaking on underneath routes and separating the ball from receiver with solid contact. Undercuts a lot of routes and is a threat with the ball in his hands on the INT. Flashes great hips and transitional skills matched up over slots in man coverage. He's very versatile in coverage technique. May actually make an ideal Nickel corner. Gets downhill fast and can cover the field sideline-to-sideline on run support. Flashes solid open field tackling skills but we would like to see him wrap up more securely and run through with greater force. He is a great space defender who can match up from a speed and fluidity standpoint with backs and quicker skill players. The main area for improvement when projecting for the next level is on run support. He has a narrow base and not much power behind him at the point of attack; but it should come once he attacks a college weight training program. He appears to have the physical demeanor as well needed to be productive in that facet. Overall, Bush is a defensive back with a lot of upside and versatility. He can run, cover and has a knack for making big plays. A threat in the return game as well. Could emerge as one of the top safeties in the country if he can get bigger, stronger and become more well-rounded.

We are #4 behind Miami, FSU, and Alabama according to ESPN.

One in the hand?
Deon Bush knows what most are thinking: that he's a lock to play for his hometown Miami Hurricanes.

Yet, the Miami (Fla.) Christoper Columbus star maintains he's still considering Florida State (his favorite childhood team), Auburn, LSU, Alabama and possibly even Purdue, where his brother plays.

But when he talks about Miami, it's easy to see why many think he'll be a Hurricane.

"That's a great school," the four-star athlete said. "It's close to home. That's probably the best situation as far as finding [early] playing time. It's a great place."

So does Miami lead for Bush's services?

"I wouldn't say it's a lead yet," said Bush, the No. 5 safety in the country. "That's great what they offer me, but I want to look at other places, too."

Bush said he likes LSU because former Tigers cornerback Patrick Peterson caught his eye.

As for Auburn, Bush said, "I like their coaching staff. Coach [Gene] Chizik is a real cool person, a family man. It's like a family atmosphere around there. They just won a national championship. That's another good thing."

Bush, who says he doesn't know when he'll make his decision, also has grown fond of his Auburn recruiter, Trooper Taylor, who has had success for various teams while recruiting in South Florida.

"That's got to be one of the best guys," he said. "I've never met a coach like Trooper."

Another coach, Alabama's Nick Saban, offers a great chance for improvement with his hands-on coaching style in the secondary.

"He gets a lot of people in the NFL," Bush said. "He's great at what he does."

Bush has family in Tallahassee and has been impressed with the talent Florida State is amassing.

"I want to play with the best and I want to play against the best," he said.

Purdue has his brother and a familiar feel but seems to be a bit of a dark horse. All other schools might be as well if it's too tough for Bush to leave Miami.

"I won't say 'tough,'" said Bush, who said he plans to take all five of his official visits this fall. "I'm just going to go to the best place for me."

sounds more like he wants to play in the SEC which is why he hasn't committed to miami already. I'd say either AU or UA.

Four-star defensive back Deon Bush, because of his travel schedule, wasn’t able to make a planned unofficial visit to Auburn on Wednesday. But while he traveled to Oregon to compete with some of the nation’s top prospects in The Opening, his parents made the trip to Auburn anyway.

Garrett and Michelle Bush met with Auburn coaches and toured the campus. Garrett Bush had visited the campus previously with his son. It was Michelle Bush’s first visit.

Garrett Bush said they liked everything they saw.

“We just like the family atmosphere at the school,” he said. “We just wanted to come back and talk to the coaches. My wife didn’t come the first time, so I wanted her to check things out for herself. She was impressed.”

Deon Bush, from Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, is rated the nation’s No. 175 prospect overall and No. 11 safety by 247Sports. His father said Wednesday the top five he named earlier has not changed. It includes Auburn, Alabama, Miami, Florida State and Purdue.

When he will make a decision is one certain.

“There is no timeline,” Garrett Bush said. “I just know that Auburn is one of his top schools.”
