View Full Version : Sabino Rumor

The Army Awakens

As I stated in a previous thread... But I think this one deserves its own...

Sabino apparently is having a great time and told the staff that if OSU didn't blow his mind away then he would be back, this already at 9am... On route to Chicago...

This is strictly the rumor on campus

I just dont see him having that great of a time at OSU...he just seems like he wants the small college atmosphere...Ive been on OSU campus and that thing is HUGE...I think it has its own zip code...IF he does make it back to ND I would have to like our chances...

If you want to be technical ND does have it's own zip code and post office, but I know what you mean. I remember visiting MSU and it's like a factory! Sprawling and endless. ND is so much more of a family atmosphere!

After his visit from OSU he has to drive back to Chicago and he said he will make a stop along the way in the Bend...

So he only spent an hour or so at Ohio State? Doesn't make sense or sound very objective if true considering he was apparently going there early this AM.

I'm not saying he left yet Svo... Just heard the first part... NDNC is the one that confused the whole thing...

Once again they just said he enjoyed his visit and already told the staff that he would come back if OSU didn't blow him away on his way back to Chicago. Got it?

No, I didn't even read what NDNC wrote -- just your original post and it didn't make sense as you made it sound like he told them this and he was on his way back already.

Ok its cool... I think I wrote it better in the other thread...
But by all accounts I think we just have to wait and see how long he stays Ohio State and when is flight time is scheduled for... If we havent heard anything in my opinion only by 6 or 7 pm... Then he is waiting to decide...
But from all indications I believe he will do so today.

where is napoleon?

How hard is osu recruiting Sabino? Isn't osu pushing harder for another prospect?

Svoboda

Right. If he was not just feeding folks lines of BS and he truly does want a small college/family environment, Ohio State will not be for him. As said in another thread, that University is simply a monster and it's easy to get lost in the shuffle there.

I've always seen UNC as the major competition, but I'll put Corwin up against the UNC defensive coordinator any day of the week.

Not to mention OSU is in a TERRIBLE neighborhood. Makes the area surrounding ND look like Malibu.

However, you can win a Heisman Publicity Trophy at OSU even if you are only the 175th best product according to the pros. That's gotta count for something.

When you can produce 1st round draft picks like A.J. Hawk & Bobby Carpenter... let alone have them graduate and still have a James Laurinaitis step in and become a star instantly... then yeah, if I were a LB prospect I too might want to see what they've got in the water in Columbus.

From my semi-regular appearances over at BuckeyePlanet, I can feel comfortable in saying that LB is not one of their more pressing needs, and that Etienne was one of the, "He's a good LB - lets offer him, but we shouldn't get our hopes up" offer (kind of like how we offered Terrelle Pryor). They've locked up Nathan Williams, who could be a hybrid LB for them, and of course the much ballyhooed Andrew Sweat. They were already very deep to begin with at LB, so they aren't pursuing the position with the same fervor that ND is. Not to mention, there has been more attention surrounding names like Shayne Hale, Keith Wells, and Christian Wilson as potential LB gets.

BuckeyePlanet is usually the best indicator of where OSU stands in the recruitment of a kid, and they don't have Sabino lumped in with the rest of the OSU recruits that are solidly on their radar - he's just lumped in with the rest of the national recruiting lot. A lot of the guys there were writing him off pretty early on - they believe UNC has the best shot at him.

I hope your right, TAA! I will be checking the board troughout the day. The pressure on the remaining recruits must be building. Between getting on the bandwagon and the remaining slots the pressure must be enormous.

thanks Calves, I had a hunch that was the case

NC is my biggest worry for Sabino. GT a little too, but not as much as Davis and NC

Do the rumors tie by to a student source or a football program source?

That's pretty much spot on, though Christian Wilson is no longer a possibility and Keith Wells is a rush DE.

It's pretty much Shayne Hale or we take only Sweat. Maybe one of the instate linebackers has a good season and earns an offer, or we find some gem in Florida or Georgia or something.

Linebacker is probably our deepest position right now. Two years ago we took five linebackers, and last year we took two(with some safeties that could grow into a WLB), and that's on top of our juniors and seniors that are currently starting.

We targeted the national elite and some locals that we really wanted(we REALLY wanted Sweat, and we were on him since the beginning) and that's probably going to be it, though a good senior season could earn someone like a Justin Staples or Fred Craig an offer.

I read on II the wire that he says that with N.D. new def they're looking for fast lb that can get to the qb and that has him pretty excited. I would be somewhat surprised if he doesn't end up Irish.

Funny how Compton has been holding out for that LB offer for awhile...and today he finally gives up hope and verballs to Nebraska...maybe someone..hmm Corwin perhaps...told Compton we were wrapping up our LB recruiting today with a certain player..

nice theory, but Compton was a ILB and I don't think that any of the coach's would tip their hat like that to another recruit.

I think Compton just knew that he would never get his offer after Filer committed to ND

I agree. And to think that Corwin Brown would essentially control a recruit he doesn't even have an offer extended to, through just one simple phone call is a wee-bit egocentric. He's great, but its not like he has a machine that controls the weather too.

Or maybe he was given an ultimatum from Nebraska that they'd move on and offer another linebacker if he didn't give them a response?
