Notre Dame defensive coordinator Corwin Brown continues to show his recruiting touch with the recent commit of ESPN 150 middle linebacker Steve Filer (Dolton, Ill./ Mount Carmel). The 6-3 Filer is the eighth ESPN 150 commit for the Irish, joining linebackers Anthony McDonald (Burbank, Calif,/ Notre Dame), David Posluszny (Aliquippa, Pa./ Hopewell) and fellow Chicago Catholic League rival defensive end/outside linebacker Darius Fleming (Chicago/Saint Rita) to form an impressive unit for the future.

Filer is a supreme blend of size and speed at the position and possesses the frame to play at close to 245-pounds in college. He flashes good athleticism and range for a player with his stature and should retain current agility while packing on good bulk.

Versatility to stack the inside run and chase down backs off-tackle is what separates him. Filer possesses loads of talent but still needs to play with a consistent motor and intensity on every snap at the next level.

Filer stated that Notre Dame's blend of academics and athletics is what sold him.

"Notre Dame was the best fit for me and my family," he said.
"They offer great football and academics. Football will not last forever, and Notre Dame's academic reputation will allow me to be successful off the field.

i think the offense needs to pick it because right now they are being shown up by the defense

i think the offense needs to pick it because right now they are being shown up by the defense4 of the last "big 5" are on offense. floyd, robinson, baldwin, butler on O, just Sabino on D. i'd say we've got a great shot at everyone but possibly butler.

Well this is a tad different from previous years. Now we need offensive commits instead of defense. Very nice...

Well this is a tad different from previous years. Now we need offensive commits instead of defense. Very nice...honestly, i don't really think we need any more recruits. if NSD was today, i'd be ecstatic with this class. the only thing we could really even want in this class is another WR. everything else is just gravy. that WR is floyd, and he's as close to a mortal lock as you get these days. add onto that the "lookin damn good" chances of Sabino, Robinson, and Baldwin, and you've got a top 3 class wrapped up by the start of the season.

the only team i've ever seen recruit like this is texas. for a school with next to no in-state talent, having a top 10 class locked up by mid-july is absolutely ridiculous.

If we only add one more recruit I think it needs to be floyd. He is a playmaker and we need that to secure one hell of a class

IK I totally agree. Time to get the offensive side of the ball in line with the D-Fence! (clap! clap!) Ok so we have the #1 TE again this year, we have the get of the year in Fauria, (from the 7 on 7 tourney sounds like he is a beast, better than many expected) and in my estimation the #1 QB, Crist. When he finishes this season, mark my words he will be a 5 star! The kid has the talent to press for time early at ND. I think that Goodman is also very underrated!!! Kid has wheels and great hands, just needs a little bulk to take the CFB pounding. OL I think Cave is a beast, plus a valuable recruiter. Clelland and Golic add depth and talent also. Only thing missing is a WR with some speed, size, and determination. Floyd fits that bill!!! We could also do with one more OL, Trev or Patchan, and possibly a RB.

I'm a big fan of taking a RB every year. I think we need to sign one.

Don't forget Notre Dame. Was 1990 so long ago that people have forgotten that we used to be pretty good at this? God, I'm old.

Not at all. The tough times have taken its toll on us and the program. Nice to be back.

Well Rivals ranks Filer as the 5th best instictive linebacker in the nation. Personally, I think that he should have rated higher in at least one or more categories.

if he hadn't chosen ND he would have...and to add to the comments above...I too can remember good recruiting classes as a matter of a fact from about 1980 to 1993 were all pretty dang good

It's just weird to me that there are some ND fans who would think that a top 5 recruiting class could be our best ever. Seems like when I was there (1991-1995), top 5 was the expectation and we almost always hit it.

It's nice to see things returning to normalcy.
