Nick was offered by pOSU last week. He also has offers from WVU, Wisconsin, Sparty, Northwestern, Indiana, Kentucky, Bowling Green, Toledo, and Ball State, with Illinois, Purdue, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati showing interest.

Nick has been invited to attend the 3/20 ND Junior Day but has not yet confirmed whether he will attend.

I would say that my favorites to this point are Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Notre Dame and then I don't really have a fifth one. I'd say that's my primary choices right now, until I actually go on visits to see what more places have to offer.

ND is the only favorite that hasn't offered. Vanett wil be at ND's Jr Day looking for that offer.

Westerville (OH) Central's Nick Vannett has continued to add offers, and Wednesday he got some more good news when he learned Notre Dame was extending an offer. Vannett, one of the top tight end prospects in the Midwest, is planning to visit South Bend this coming weekend, to check out the Fighting Irish.

Vannett said he was really interested in ND before, but the offer increases it quite a bit. In addition to his unofficial visit this weekend to ND, Nick will spend his spring break visiting Wisconsin, Pitt, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Northwestern and pOSU "a few times". He admits to having concerns over the role of the TE position in the pOSU offense as he doesn't want to just block. Wants to narrow his choices and possibly commit prior to his senior season.

Under the Weis regime there was a feel of recruiting like CW and staff targeted one player first that fit the system and went after recruits one at a time. BK's introduction and the quotes on his recruiting strategy were a primary concern for many of us in light of his lack of national recruiting. Since then we can better understand HOW he develops talent and builds his teams. I am now quite comfortable in his recruiting strategy. If the kid is a stud athlete. good student and of decent character, BK can use him. CW's one at a time strategy vs BK's 5 at a time strategy is fine by me (now). Especially with Camp Kelly being a known reality and the pace of practice, these recruits know what they are signing up for. I can understand and get the feel of what TEAM means under BK, and it's a different thing.

All that to say if BK offered Vannett and Vannett wants in... great! Last year I would have been questioning if it was too early and what does that mean for the other TEs that held offers.

The pro mentality and individual egos are gone and this is a team that is building steam and BK will have it prepared to perform every Saturday.

Him almost giving a verbal commit is outstanding. ND now is a strong leader for his services. He'll probably continue doing his due diligence by checking out other schools, but I think he wants in, and may not want to miss the boat if he delays too long. Only so many schollies to go around this year...

Has any tight end prospects mentioned how many ND takes this year (at the tight end position)? Is it assumed one but potentially two?

I think if vannett commits and one of the other special guys wanted to join they'd let him (so koyack, jay rome, ASF). Its a ridiculous TE class so better take advantage of it

I think ND misses on Rome and ASF, but I think they get Vannett. The thing with TE is it is a perfect fit for jumbo high school ATHs. So I dont think you could really tell who would play TE this early.

Kelly's big weekend
April, 21, 2010
By Bill Kurelic

Brian Kelly is set for his first spring game at Notre Dame on Saturday. The Fighting Irish's boss is also set to have a big recruiting weekend at his new school.

Kelly plans to sign one tight end this recruiting season and has offered a scholarship to at least a half dozen prospects at the position. One of those Kelly hopes to land, Ben Koyack (Oil City, Pa./Oil City), will arrive in South Bend on Friday and stay over for the spring game. Koyack has the Irish, Ohio State and Penn State at the top of his list.

Nick Vannett (Westerville, Ohio/Central) is another tight end the Irish have offered, who is planning to attend Notre Dame's spring game. However, Vannett said in a text message Wednesday morning that he has heard there may be thunderstorms in South Bend on Saturday afternoon, so he is not certain he will make the trip. Notre Dame is one of a handful of schools high on Vannett's list.

The bolded part has to be a joke, right?

On Wednesday Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez offered a scholarship to two more prospects from the state of Ohio, ESPNU 150 Watch List tight end Nick Vannett (Westerville, Ohio/Central) and defensive end/tight end Austin Traylor (Columbus, Ohio/Walnut Ridge).

Vannett also received offers from Penn State and North Carolina State on Monday. The 6-foot-6, 230-pounder has 30-plus scholarship offers. In addition to the three schools that offered this week, his list includes Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Oregon, Iowa, Purdue, Pitt, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, South Florida, Virginia Tech, Arizona, West Virginia, Boston College, Syracuse, Duke, Northwestern and Kentucky.

"I have a list of about 10 to 12 schools I'm really looking at. Ohio State obviously, Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Pitt, South Florida, I'd say Oregon and Purdue," said Vannett. "I'm going to try to start taking some trips. I'll try to get to as many of them as I can. Hopefully by the time July rolls around I'll have my decision."

This is amusing. All the other recruting sites Rivals, Scout, etc etc. that have written about Vannett's top ten have ND included. ND's offer to Vannett may not even be actionable, but he still lists ND as one of his top ten.

Than this jackass Kurelic writes a story on Vannett and not once mentions ND.................:hahaha:

It is of course on purpose. Vannett himself has recently added ND prominently back into his mix, no doubt because he also will be waiting to hear what happens with Ragone, but Kurelic completely ignores that because he is a Buckeye loving ND hating douchebag. In the long run Vannett is most likely going to end up at pOSU anyway. I'm sure that as soon as Tressel is tired of waiting on him and tells him to either verbal or we are going to offer another TE that Nick will become a Buckeye.

I think the hangup here is that Vannett still doesn't believe that Tressel will throw the ball to the TE. Vannett spoke w/ a former OSU TE who told him the coaches kept saying they would throw the ball to the TE more and of course it never happened so the player was very frustrated.

OSU has actually offered 2or 3 other TEs so they're not waiting around for Vannett. No TE wants to go there though since they know they won't be getting the ball.

In the end, I wouldn't be surprised if Vannett ends up and Penn State.

I lived in pa for one year and as much as I love my Irish I couldn't respect the state Penn fans. They were low class and didn't seem to k kw anything about football. They knew if tge recent teams and that's about it. They hate. The Irish just because they were the Irish. I like jopa as he is the running butt of many jokes bit how van you not appreciate whyheat has done in college football. Dot like Florida state but I like what bowden did and alot of rhe other classic coaches. Those fans ere worthless though and hole to see jopa retkre and their football team crumble

OSU wont ever throw to a TE. The staff can sell it as much as they want, but its never going to happen. Now obviously kids might see other reasons to go to OSU, but if your a TE you wont get the ball.

Tight end Jeff Heuerman (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) was the first class of 2011 tight end to commit to the Buckeyes. Nick Vannett (Westerville, Ohio/Central) is the favorite at this point to become the second.

The Buckeyes did not sign a tight end in their 2010 recruiting class. They have a commitment from one for 2011, Jeff Heuerman (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier). But there is no question they want to add one more.

The guy at the top of the Ohio State board is Nick Vannett (Westerville, Ohio/Central), an ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect.

The Bucks continue to face more competition for Vannett’s services. In the past week or so Vannett has received scholarship offers from Penn State, Michigan and North Carolina State, and the Nittany Lions have quickly moved up among Vannett’s top choices.

The 6-foot-6 and 230-pound Vannett has 30 plus scholarship offers. In addition to the three schools that offered last week, his list includes Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Oregon, Iowa, Purdue, Pitt, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, South Florida, Virginia Tech, Arizona, West Virginia, Boston College, Syracuse, Duke, Northwestern and Kentucky.

“I have a list of about 10 to 12 schools I’m really looking at,” Vannett said. “Ohio State obviously, Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Pitt, South Florida, I’d say Oregon and Purdue,” Vannett said. “There’s a few more. I can’t remember them all.

“I’m going to try to start taking some trips. I’ll try to get to as many of them as I can. Hopefully by the time July rolls around I’ll have my decision.”

The Buckeyes are doing all they can to land Vannett including making both of the two allowable stops they can make at Central High School.

“Ohio State came out the first day they were allowed to,” Vannett said. “They’ve already made their two visits. Coach (John) Peterson and coach (Darrell) Hazell came both times.

“They told me they are shallow in depth at tight end and they want to sign two. They told me I’m the guy they want. They want me for my pass catching ability.”

Linebacker James Vaughters (Tucker, Ga./Tucker) and tight end Nick Vannett (Westerville, Ohio/Central) could also join Jim Tressel's 2011 recruiting class in the not too distant future. Both have Ohio State as one of their top choices and both could announce their decisions sometime this month.
