ESPN is getting close to re-publishing their ESPN 150 for 2008. There is a rumor that the new list will actually be a 250 or even a 300 like Scout's new listing. In any case, 17 of the current ND verbal commits are on the ESPN 150 Watch List, which means that all 17 of these guys are considered 4 stars or better by the ESPN Scouts, Inc. group, and if they have a ESPN 250 or ESPN 300, all 17 will appear on that list.
Surprise, the exclusion is not Golic, he is also on the ESPN Watch List. The only ND recruit currently not listed on the watch list is Goodman, and that is only because they still have not completed his evaluation. When they do, it is almost a certainty that he will be on the watch list as well.
The link below takes you to the ND team page which shows all recruits who ND is interested in, or vice versa, so it is a pretty extensive list. Also, because it is not premium info, it does not tell you where any recruit on the list has committed, but it is easy to scroll through the alphabetical list to look at the ND18, and see if they are on the ESPN 150 Watch list.
It would seem pretty obvious that if the actual team rankings are published shortly that ESPN would join Rivals & Scout in ranking the current crop of ND verbal commits at #1.

I've always said, ESPN (scouts inc.) is the most knowledgable recruiting service. I still feel that way.

These are not in alphabetic order. Do you think this how they'll be rated?

What is even more amazing is that the remaining 6-7 players that are seriously interested in ND are also on that list ... Baldwin, J. Brown, Filer, Floyd, Sabino, C. Thomas and Robinson (still listed as a Nebraska commit).

Yeah ESPN is very knowledgeable they dropped Clausen to #9 on their top 10list last year. I love Golic and think he'll work his ass off here and eventually start as a (RS) Jr. or around there, but I don't think he's top 150 right now. ESPN is the worst at rankings.

I agree that they are very ND friendly with their ratings. Quite honestly, they had Aaron Nagel ranked in the Top 150 last year and I was amazed. I watched his tape and watched him at the Army AA last year. He is sooo out of place with the top talent. Nice kid, but will never touch the field at ND as a starter. Would not be shocked to see him transfer before his career is over.

Golic will not be in the 150. ESPN is supposed to be extending their rankings to 250 or 300 like Scout. Guys that are on the ESPN 150 Watch List are what Rivals & Scout would categorize as 4 stars at approximately the 51-300 range, and 5 stars at the 1-50 range. In any case ESPN does consider Golic to be of 4 star equivalent talent.

What were Golic's other offers? I'm wondering how they would approach his ranking and everything considering his dad works for the company? Do you know if Golic is playing in that ESPN game too?

------UConn was his only other offer, but they said he was hearing from UF, USC and all those other top teams but that means nothing if they don't offer. He committed rather early like mid Feb. He's not a top 150 prospect but he will work his ass off harder than anybody else to get on the field. He's a project to get bigger but once he is I see him making an impact.

ESPN ratings do not follow what everyone else's in the world thinks. They have a unique way for ranking players. Remember Mark May works for ESPN. Don't get me wrong, I am glad that ND recruits are getting respect.

I actually like ESPN's approach better. They will not rate and rank a kid until they've view film and compiled information on the kid whereas Rivals/Scout will rank them even if they haven't seen film.

--------I agree with some they do, but dropping Clausen to 9 last year just lost all credibility to me.

As of now, Cave, Sluaghter and Hunter are those who have been selected from this years class. About 65 have been selected. Not sure how many they are taking.

I went on a rant in another thread yesterday about this very topic. The gist of what I said was the damn talent evaluators, Scout, Rivals, ESPN, all need to come up with a much more consistent evaluation of these kids. Money be damned, we are talking about the next 10 to 15 years of these kids lives here. Unfortunately, many of these kids go on the fact that so and so said that they were the next great wonder. They get this into their heads and they think that football alone will sustain them and make them millionaires. Wrong!!!!!! How many mega busts have we seen where 5 star talent is concerned? Too many to keep warranting how these money grubbers stack their top talent lists to make more $$$.

Don't tell PETA? I'll call and tell them what you said while I'm wearing my alligator boots, leather pants, snakeskin wallet, my sable hat, all while I'm laying on the huge sheepskin rug, my head resting on a down pillow eating a coney.
