2011 Wish List

We've been spoiled with all of the recruiting action the last couple of weeks and now it seems like things have slowed down and there isn't a whole lot of new info coming out. So naturally I decided to start compiling an early wish list for 2011. I didn't really look into scholarship numbers for how many recruits we may sign next year (can't really do it anyways as this class isn't complete yet). So here goes - and if you have names to add to fill in the blanks, post them, or post your own wish list:

Recruiting is about to get relentless for plenty of high school juniors across the country. Below is a watch list of Notre Dame recruiting targets that like Vaughters, could pick up an offer. Don't be surprised if the Irish coaching staff sends out over 20 scholarship offers today

I don’t think we’ll have that many spots for the class of 2011.

We currently have 9 players that are seniors and are eligible for a 5th year. If we invited everyone who is eligible for their 5th year back we’d have 5 spots left for this class and 18 for next. That obviously won’t happen. I think we at least offer to allow Walls, Stewart, Wenger and maybe Gordon or Burger return depending on what happens with recruiting this season. That leaves us with 23-25 left for the class of 2010. We’ll call it 24.

If were at 24, that means we have 13 scholarships left for the class of 2011 if we invite every player eligible for a 5th year back. The “problem” is that almost all of those players (Romine, Paskorz, Nuss, G. Gray, H.Smith, Ragone, Nwankwo, Dever) are/should be big contributors by that point. The only one I see possibly not inviting back is Nwankwo. That would mean we’d only have 14 spots for the class of 2011.

Now if Res Life keeps at it or some players get injured or we take less than 24 this season, a few more spots will open up. But I don’t think we’ll be in the 22 range.

I can't really rate these players until the 2010 class signs. I would not have known anything about Andrew Hendrix or Bennett Jackson before the 09 class signed, but now those are two guys I am excited to see play for us. I want Hanratty if he is as good as they say, but besides that I don't know.
