I'm not a big rivals/scout stars guy, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on how many we should expect for these boys? I can say Farrell said on rivals radio thursday that Golic will either be a four or a high three star guy.

My guess is that they will be given 4 stars, except Goodman will get 3 or 4, but the lack of a recruiting battle will lessen the chance of going beyond that. Pure speculation on my part, tho.

Golic - Farrell is probably right and I'd expect him to be a three star and possibly four star depending on what side of the bed Rivals/Scout wake up on. There are questions about the level of competition he plays in Connecticut. He is said to be very fundamentally sound, but almost to a fault where he may lose fluidity.
Cave - I look for Cave to be a four star offensive lineman prospect, possibly higher depending on how he does at the various combines. He is said to have amazing strength numbers and a great motor. Indiana high school football isn't a hotbed for college talent by any means, so competition may be an issue. Florida was hot after Cave, so that is aways a positive since I think the talent evaluators at Florida are top notch.
Goodman - Considered the best WR in the state by several publications and coaches, but again, the competition issue could be a question. That said, I think he'll be a four star kid and he was being pursued by some big names including Michigan. Seems to be in the Jeff Samardzija mold, but quicker.

Thanks.... This is indeed a great start. Getting two hogs and heralded reciever. We absolutely needed all three of these guys, a legacy and two in state boys that were getting attention from the big programs. Competition seems to be a question with all of them, but that is not that big of a deal to me.
Great job CW...

And hopefully better looking! Jeff was an ugly dude. Sorry if that is feminine.

Yep, that's how I look at it, too. Additionally, they all have what you can't teach -- incredible size and smarts. You also like these kids because they are Notre Dame fanatics, so they'll die on that field for the Golden Dome.

I think they all will be low cause Rivals/scout hates Notre Dame. Maybe one will be a four star.

Goodman's competition is out of his control. I mean what's he supposed to do? Physically move Ft. Wayne Dwenger?
I always hate when people downgrade others over "competition". Good athletes are good athletes. Good football players are good football players.

the key is not to let it bother you. Rivals/scout do not determine the outcomes of games, the players do. Wonder what the cumulative Rivals stars spread was for Boise st vs Oklahoma, Wake Forest vs. Florida St and so on and so forth. trust CW and his talent evaluations, that is what I'm doing.

True, but it is something you have to consider. A player can look a LOT better than he really is when playing against inferior teams. It can easily turn out that he really IS that good, but it can just as easily turn out that he can't stand up to a real test.
Playing against weak competition shouldn't be a knock against the player, per se, but it does mean that you can't be as certain about your evaluation of his talent. It just makes things less certain.

I agree it should be part of the evaluation, I just think the least important.
What I don't like is the selectivness to which this criteria is applied. For these three it seems like it will be an issue. But for a guy like Pyror, voted the Jr. of the Year. by Rivals, it doesn't. Living in the WPIAL and playing in the same classification(AA), I can tell you for a fact that Pyror plays against weak competition.

they all will bring their game up to match the level of talent we play...they are all talented young men and I for one am extatic they chose to play for us
... Playing against weak competition shouldn't be a knock against the player, ...
nor should it be a reason for high ranking because a QB gets a 70% completion or a RB 10 yds/carry because of weak competition.
But high stats do generate high rankings regardless of the competition.
Fraser is the exception rather than the rule. But then he built his reputation off high numbers as a junior. Most ND fans have written him off not because of his level of competition but because of the abilities of his teammates.
Golic, Cave, and Goodman will have a hard time generating high numbers in the rankings. They don't play in "football country". With Charlie's "No Looking" Policy they won't be generating guru interest in writing stories about their latest big offer. Like Kerry Neal their early verbal pretty much ends their news cycle unless they go to combines and make a splash. Goodman as a skill player make make some headlines but interior linemen don't get ink.
3 to 4 seems right.

Latte, where you from, I play in the WPIAL actually?
