If we get 3/4 of what is within our grasp (Filer, Sabino, Floyd, TR, Baldwin, Brown, etc.), this would be the best class since '90. I consider this year to be a turning point for ND. We are looking forward, instead of back. Recruits are normally wise in terms of looking at which school is on the upswing, and who is not. For the current batch, considering most players don't see much time the first two years on campus, you have to like the synergy ND has in regard to the hiring of CB, the new defense, our last two classes, and where our program is headed.

I have to agree with you Stoney, this class could be the keystone in our re-building of Notre Dame Football. If we do get TR, we can watch the staff complete the class at wr and lb and smile knowing what could be around the corner.
Looking at the commits from '90 just blows me away, how we did not reap a NC is beyond me. I'm still haunted by the name Willie Clark, one of the best players that I ever saw. Lou drove me crazy moving him back and forth between DB & RB.

They did win one, in 1993, but good ole boy bobby bowden got the sympathy vote and got it instead. Thats my opinion of how it went down anyway, but I'm wearing blue and gold glasses.

I agree. Although, it will be interesting to see how the next two small classes will pan out. There is now a lot of depth to come in behind. I am confident CW / CB take care of business.

I still owe Bobby Bowden and every voter in the AP poll a punch to the face for that one. Thanks for bringing my rage back to clear focus.

that greasy used car saleman prolly lathered every Ap voters hand in benjamins to get that vote. I literally was dumbfounded at that vote.

That '93 Class was something else....one of the best hauls ever.

This class is going to better than 1990. By the time they are seniors, they shall have won 2 NCs atleast. sorry thats the homer in me, but it looks realistic

I don't think that this class will even be in the same stratosphere as that class....with that being said this is still a damn good class that should be very successful while under the watch of Notre Dame Our Mother.

Homer my a**! It's true....the big Irish dog is out of the cage and it is chasing that scrawny a** poddle to the NC. It's quick boys! Mark my words, it's going to take a big chomp out of the poodle and co. this year. Next year...well I know how I feel about it. Let's just say I'm taking a trip in Jan.

The thing with the 18 we've got on board is the sheer depth we've assembled. OU jumped out and landed three 5 star guys off the bat, but they started to add some lesser known names. With ND, it seems like every player has now or at least at one point had a 4 star rating. And when you've got more than one guy at a position within the class (which is the case everywhere except QB), that breeds competition from day one, from the guys they'll be closest to. It really is a case where success breeds.
I mean think about it - some of us are disappointed we brought in David Posluszny (as if the name isn't enough to be excited about), or Hafis Williams (a guy who we would have donated organs for if it mean him coming to ND if this were either of the last two years). We're looking at 3 star guys with leery eyes, when not too long ago they were the rule, not the exception.

....good post, still this used to be the rule and not the exception and its good to see it starting to make a comeback.

At this point, it's hard to argue that the '90 class isn't better. My hope is that this class is the best since.

Of course its hard to argue. One class has graduated after they all played their entire college ball careers, while another hasn't even played their senior year in HS. One step at a time, but I share stoney's optimism - this class has a world's worth of potential surrounding it.

23 commits overall
14 defensive commits (6 CBs, 5 LBs, 2 DEs, 1 S, 0 DTs)
9 offensive commits (2 WR, 1 FB, 2 QB, 1 TE, 3 OL, 0 HB)
Like everyone else, I think the class of 90 was one of the greats, but I've got to say, I like the balance we've got this year better than that class.
18 commits overall
11 defensive commits (2 CB, 3 LB, 3 DE, 1 S, 2 DT)
7 offensive commits (1 WR, 0 FB, 1 QB, 2 TE, 3 OL, 0 HB)
And we're not done yet. Lets go get Filer, Sabino, Floyd, Baldwin and Trev. (those would be my choices)

Totally off modern day topic but wasn't Burris brought in to play TB? I know he played corner and later saftey but I thought he was brought in as a tailback since we had landed Tommy Carter III.

Filer, Floyd, others....??? I'm very curious as to how we end up.

We added Filer recently. A huge pickup in many respects. In February, my thoughts were that the LB spot would make or break our class this year. In addition, it would greatly affect not only the defense, but CW's chance of attaining a NC. These concerns have not only been assuaged, but wiped out completely. The four we have committed thus far, with a chance at Sabino, will provide the basis/tone for a defense that has been lacking for years.
