Add another STA kid to the ND watch list. Baty is a transfer to STA from California and has yet to play a down for them but is already generating a lot of interest from the Florida schools based on some camps he has attended. His only offer to date is from Stanford, which is not surprising since his father Greg who played TE for the Dolphins is a Stanford alumnus. Turner may get a few more offers based on his pedigree alone but the major programs will probably wait until the Fall to see how he performs at STA. If ND is still shopping for a QB at that time Turner will probably draw some attention, especially since he has expressed an interest in ND.

in a recent interview he said a lot of schools were waiting for spring practice to see him before offering and ND might be one of those schools

Turner says he's receiving daily interest from Ole' Miss, Wake Forest, Oregon, ND, FSU, Florida and Arizona State. He said Miami has turned up the heat and is showing heavy interest now. Turner said that he grew up a big Ken Dorsey fan.

Just curious if any of those in the know on this board think that Baty is still a possibility? With Hendrix committed, will the Irish possibly wait until the fall to send out a 2nd QB offer, or is Baty someone who wouldn't want to be in a class with 2 QBs?

My guess is that Baty would probably jump at an ND offer. His only offer to date remains Stanford, and with their class filling up rapidly I presume that he is either really not all that interested in Stanford, or Harbaugh is slow playing him. However, it does not appear that Harbaugh is slow playing anybody right now, but rather playing a game of bait and switch when the time comes.

Back to the question though. Baty seems intent on proving himself this Fall at STA so that he can pick up some big time offers. I don't think ND is planning on waiting to see if Baty does that as there is a good chance that one of Massa/Rees/Robinson will get an offer by this Wednesday, and there is probably a better chance that if offered one of them will commit to the Irish.

However, I don't believe that it is etched in stone that one of those 3 guys will get an offer just because CW wants another QB in this class. If Robinson did not perform well enough at the 7-on-7, and Massa/Rees do not perform well enough at tomorrow's camp than they will not get offered. If that happens then we will probably have to wait until the results of the Fall to see another QB offered.

This has no effect on ND but it still is an interesting turn of events. Turner Baty has transferred from St. Thomas Aquinas to New Canaan (CT) HS, the home of ND offered '11 recruit and legacy Conor Hanratty. Baty had just transferred to STA this year from a NorCal school in order to get more exposure and actually played in STA's nationally televised season opener. However, he apparently felt like he was not going to get sufficient PT at STA and has now transferred to New Canaan. However, New Canaan also has a pretty good QB and Baty has not been appointed the starter there either. Baty has now gone from CA to FL to CT within the space of 6 months which means he can likely compete with Chris Martin for the recruiting Class of 2010 Frequent Flyer award.

BTW, New Canaan is far and away the top ranked (by in-state sources) HS program in CT this year and plays in the state's most difficult conference. However that conference overall would have a difficult time competing with D-4 schools in Texas, Florida, and California. MaxPreps has New Canaan as the #2296 ranked program in the country. LOL, our local HS is undefeated and ranked #3539, and yes MaxPreps does have rankings that go that far down although it is hard to fathom how anyone can accurately rank HS programs beyond possibly a Top 100. In any case New Canaan does appear to have a high quality team this year, but they would probably still lose to STA by 6 TD's.

:wtf: There has to be more to it than PT. Wonder how he is doing in class?

Turner Baty Speaks Out
February 9, 2010 at 3:25 pm by Dave Ruden

I just got off the phone with both Turner Baty and his father, Greg.

Turner didn’t want to say too much about his moving out of New Canaan tomorrow morning other than his decision to move is a family issue, which is supported by both his father and Rams coach Lou Marinelli.

Turner’s parents are divorced. He is going to live with his father in the Fort Laurderdale area. His mother, Kathleen, who moved up here for a job opportunity, is going back to California for a better job, along with her two other sons, who are 13 and 9.

“I’m really bummed out that people think my moving is anything more than this,” Turner said. “Today is going to be the last time I live with my two brothers and that’s pretty hard. I’ve really had a good time in New Canaan and made a lot of good friends. If I wasn’t a football player none of this would be happening. I’m just a 17-year-old kid.”

Greg said that the decision for Turner to move to Florida with him is for “selfish reasons.”

“I haven’t lived with Turner for six months and I want to have that opportunity because he will be going to college soon,” Greg said.

Turner said he still has not decided where he is going to college next year and is exploring several opportunities.

Finally, Greg had some words for those who think his son’s arrival was a calculated move by Marinelli to bring in a hired gun to win games.

“Anyone who thinks he had something to do with this or did something wrong is barking up the wrong tree,” Greg said. “Lou, the coaching staff, all the teachers and people in New Canaan have been wonderful. This is just a family decision and nothing more.”

I know this is old but I find it interesting none the less. After the season ended in New Cannan Turner transferred back to Florida. That makes it CA-FL-CT-FL in a year.

I can't find out where he ended up going to school. Wonder if it is D2 or lower. Or maybe just not playing ball anymore. Amazing how he fell from graces and the recruiting hype that made him early on. Not nearly as bad as good or Earzlo since Turner actually played, and for good schools but still quite a story.

You will be interested to find out that Turner Baty has finally made it to a CFB program this year. He signed an LOI with none other than Chalooch last Wednesday after being recruited to KU by Rob Ianello.

Baty had quite the sojourn to make it to KU. He transferred from a NorCal HS his Senior Year to play at STA, then transferred withing a month to New Canaan, CT when he didn't get any PT at STA. He didn't get any PT at New Canaan either so moved back to Florida again still in his Senior year of HS, where he presumably graduated from some High School down there in 2010. He then headed back to Northern California and played JUCO for the last 2 years at City College of San Francisco before signing an LOI with Kansas last week where he can compete with Dayne Crist and Jake Heaps. I'm pretty sure this kid's last name should be Batty instead of Baty.
