The thing is, Hughes should jump at this chance. I see the Irish offense spreading itself out more in 2009 and using its best weapons in the passing game. There will be more and more formations used that offer only a one back set, but you know Charlie will pull out the regular two back formations a lot as well. How would a switch help Hughes then? Well, it wouldn't be a full switch. The times that ND would need or want Hughes in the same backfield as Allen, Aldridge, and Gray they would be able to put him there with the confidence that he can accomplish the goal of the play.
I REALLY like this idea. Hughes at fullback would be a great idea. It adds a whole different dynamic to the offense. I LIKE!

Dont get to excited about it Jgess its all just speculation. I can see Allen/Alridge and Hughes lining up as a split backs, but not in the traditional I formation. Plus if we cant use a FB Coach Weis will just use another TE before he puts Hughes at FB.

I hope this happens, it would definately open up the passing attack. As a Cowboys fan, I always wondered why Tom Landry didn't put Tony Dorsett and Herschel Walker in the backfield together. I think they did it for like 5 plays.

I am against it for the most part. In my opinion Hughes seemed to have the most patience when rushing this year, which wasn't very much but it was something. I think our rb's just wanted to take off as fast as they can after getting the ball; but when the offensive line hasn't opened the whole your just gonna run into a wall.
Obviously we didn't change RB and OLine coaches because it was working but if we see more of the same I would feel better with hughes holding the ball.
Travis Thomas and Walker were successful with their patience and vision, although the line was did their part as well.
