If you're a pro football fan, you probably know who Jim Jeffcoat was. Well, this is his son and he's a chip off the old block. Named the defensive newcomer of the year by the Dallas Morning News for his district as a frosh, the kid is already drawing big time interest.
Had 28 tackles, four sacks, seven quarterback pressures, three tackles for loss, one interception returned 70 yards for a touchdown in six games as a starter in District 9-5A, one of the state's toughest.
Also, dad didn't let him start playing football unti the sixth grade. Also is a big time basketball prospect.

Svoboda, so does this mean he has an interest in the Irish. One would think he would have serious ties to Texas with his dad playing for the Cowboys. But here is to hoping that his dad will do as Maurice Crum's dad did and do what's best for his son.

No, not necessarily. As I start to hear about prospects and research them, I I like them, then I'll start threads on them.

I wish I had interest from D-1 colleges as a freshman. Or at all, for that matter. This guy must be a beast, especially if he can return an interception 70 yards at DE.

His body screams football player to me. Considering his age and already being nearly 240lbs, he could end up growing a couple more inches and packing on another 30 pounds.

1. Jackson Jeffcoat
6'5" / 230 pounds / Defensive End / Plano West High School / Plano, Texas
Contenders: Texas, Oklahoma, USC
Scouting Report: Nation's top junior prospect. Son of former ASU Sun Devils and Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Jim Jeffcoat, Jackson is blessed with his father's physical attributes and has an advanced feel for the game. As a sophomore, Jeffcoat was named All-State 5A, something that's extremely rare given the priority to upperclassmen in the state's highest classification. Has been clocked at 4.50 flat and even touched under 4.5. Shuts down passing lanes with his combination of height and plus wingspan. Disciplined and well-coached, uses his hands like an NFL-vet. Overall technique is on the same level as Devon Kennard. Doesn't appear to have Kennard's explosion off the ball, but Jeffcoat actually plays in a read-and-react defense. One could argue Jeffcoat's frame and straight-line speed gives him a higher ceiling than Kennard. Could have been the #2 prospect in the 2009 class after Barkley. Also the top basketball player in the Dallas Metroplex right now, Jeffcoat may pull a Julius Peppers and go dual-sport in college.
http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?ra_key=2303
At a sleek and athletic 6-5, 230 pounds, Jeffcoat has great length and uses it to his advantage. He uses his hands as well as any defensive prospect in the country. In the offseason he is a top basketball player and his athleticism on the hardwood comes through on the football field.

I've been told that Jeffcoat has absolutely no interest in Notre Dame. I'd imagine the staff knows this as well as that is one of the reason you've seen a rash of DE offers go out.

I have alot of interest in him. The kids can play and will be one of the best in the 2010 class. But if hes not interested, no worries. We should thank him for saving the staff flights to Texas for a kid who isnt interested.

No big shock there other than.... we actually thought he was interested?? He seems like Devon Kennard part 2, except Kennard may have initially had some faint interest.
That being said we could take 3 DEs this year and not have too many (in addition to Martin). So fire up the offers if the kids got talent and smarts.

Jackson gets roughly 15 letters a week from schools recruiting him to play football. He's also starting to get interest from schools to play basketball. He was an all-district player as a sophomore and the district newcomer of the year as a freshman.
Jackson hasn't ruled out playing both sports in college if allowed.
"It'll be hard to do, but I know one thing: He's got the competitive spirit," Plano West basketball coach Anthony Morgan said. "I think the hardest part will be convincing a D-I [football] coach to let him do that."
Jackson has been offered a scholarship from several major universities. Oklahoma, Texas, USC and Georgia top his list, he said.
Oh, and Houston. But that's Jackson's choice and not his father's.
"He doesn't push me to go to Houston," Jackson said. "He tells me to do what I want and to find a place I can live for four years."
"If it's the University of Houston, so be it," Jim added. "If it's somewhere else, that's his decision. As long as he picks a place where he's not shorted on his academics, then I'll be happy."

I thought GH wasn't going to waste time on kids that are flat out not interested in ND? So why have a profile? IF he is interested, where is that coming from?

Anyone with an offer will have a profile.
We will also have profiles on some elite recruits who have no interest in ND and are not offered. What we will not have profiles on is lower tier recruits who have no offer or interest in ND and are simply added by flamers from other sites to show committments to their school.

Elite defensive lineman Jackson Jeffcoat traveling the nation
ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect Jackson Jeffcoat has already made trips to Texas, LSU, Oklahoma and Houston (where his father, former Dallas Cowboy, Jim Jeffcoat, is the defensive line coach), affiliate Web site InsideTexas.com reports.
Additionally, Jeffcoat is already setting up summer visits to Georgia, Florida, Stanford, USC and California.
While Jeffcoat stressed that he's in the "information gathering" stage of his recruitment, he does not plan to drag out the process, "No, I don't plan on waiting until Signing Day, I'm going to give my commitment as soon as I'm ready, as soon as I've figured it all out," he said."
The Plano West star also shared what he's looking for, "First academics, because no one can take away that degree once you've earned it. And then just the environment and where I feel the most comfortable, that's where I'm going to commit to."
Jeffcoat previously told affiliate Web site OUInsider.com that Oklahoma, Texas and USC were his top three.

Spring football workouts are just getting started, but the spring has already been plenty eventful for Plano West junior Jackson Jeffcoat.
The Wolves defensive lineman started the season by being named the No. 6 football recruit in the nation by both Rivals.com and Scouts.com. Not surprising considering Jeffcoat has already received offers from California, Georgia, LSU, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Rutgers, USC, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M and TCU to name a few.
Now the 6-foot-4, 233-pound Jeffcoat has started the month of May by being one of 51 players from Texas selected for consideration to play in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
“Jackson is certainly an exciting player who dominates along the line,” said John Scmid, player management, U.S. Army All-American Bowl. “He’s a five-star player who shows good speed for a player of his size. His offer list is impressive and he’s the type of player who can change a game.”
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl provides senior athletes a platform to display their talents against the best in the country. Jeffcoat’s nomination makes him one of 400 players being considered for final selection to compete in the East vs. West match-up, which will be broadcast live on NBC Jan. 9, 2010 from the Alamodome in San Antonio. Last season’s game at the same site drew more than 32,000 fans.
“For 10 years, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl has provided the national platform for young adults to reflect the strength of army strong soldiers,” said Colonel David Lee, director of marketing, US Army Accessions command. “The nomination is great recognition of the leadership qualities a nominee has developed on and off the field as a student-athlete in his community.”
The only other player from District 8-5A to earn a nomination was Allen junior offensive lineman Cedric Ogbuehi.
The next step for the nominees will kick-off in October when the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Tour begins. The tour runs through December, during which the 90 final players will be announced.
Making the cut would be promising for Jeffcoat’s future football prospects as the game has served as a launching pad for college and NFL stars such as Adrian Peterson, Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Tim Tebow and Terrelle Pryor. Last month, eight bowl alumni were taken in the first round of the NFL Draft with 21 former players overall being selected.
The only two Wolves to ever play in the game were defensive back Vickiel Vaughn and kicker/punter Todd Pegram, who both were selected in 2002. Also making the cut that season from the Plano ISD was Plano East offensive lineman Justin Blalock, who now plays for the Atlanta Falcons.
Spring schedule for West
The Wolves have started spring football with an eye on making the playoffs for a fourth straight season.
The next scrimmage for the team is 6 p.m. today at Clark Stadium. West will then take the field at Clark on May 15 with a scrimmage at 5 p.m. That event will be followed with a spring picnic for players, coaches and parents at the Wolves indoor facility.
West will conclude spring football with its final scrimmage May 22 at Clark.

The nation's No. 1 overall prospect, defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat (Plano, Texas/West), will make an official visit to Texas this weekend, a source familiar with his recruitment told ESPN.com on Monday night.
This will be the first official visit for Jeffcoat, who will watch the Longhorns play host to Big 12 rival Texas Tech.
Arizona State, Southern California, Houston, Oklahoma and Florida are the other schools in the mix for the 6-foot-5, 230-pounder.
