BGI indicates that ESPN Radio Chicago is reporting that John Latina is out (it does not specify whether it is a resignation or firing).

That was reported, but per ND.....he is still employed, and asked espn to share that with their Chicago affiliate.

With all due respect the Latina family because I'm sure it's not happy time but this is what I believe is best for the program at this point. Hopefully there will be a replacement that will fit in smoothly.

Yes, I saw that after a little bit further research. Thanks for the clarification.

Sure enough, BGI has changed its headline to reflect ND's denial.

This is just ESPN confirming their earlier report that offensive line coach Jappy Oliver has resigned...i.e. it's more erroneous reporting on top of an earlier erroneous report. They suck.

That said, I have little doubt that Latina will be gone before spring.

Where there's smoke, there's fire or should that be fired?

It's been suggested that ND is allowing him to remain on board until he finds a suitable job. I think that sounds reasonable.

I just dont see how waiting till he finds a new job would do anything. Its not like he would have any involvement with the ND program. Best luck to Coach Latina.

It might be more like they are waiting until after NSD.

Sounds like a Florida move. The coach that mainly recruited Omar Hunter was fired after NSD. When he asked if they were going to fire him (would have come back to ND), Meyer said no. So he signed, and the coach was fired.

To be fair Lax I think that Mattison DL coach from Florida left to go to the Ravens. He wasnt fired.

Either way though, right after NSD.

Basically it is. One would hope that the only difference is that if a Chris Watt asked point blank if Latina was going to be here next year that he would be told the truth if that is not going to be the case. Fortunately in ND's case the other difference is that Latina is not particularly close with any of ND's current OL commits whereas Mattison was the driving force behind Omar Hunter's de-committing ND to go to Florida.

no, not either way. mattison and meyer both personally assured him that he was staying put at florida. mattison left within days of making this assurance. there's no evidence to suggest that ND has misled any Latina-recruited players at this point

until something happens, we don't know what the situation is. it's possible that weis keeps latina. it wouldn't be the first time we saw an ND coach display undying loyalty to an assistant. it's also possible that the timeline revolves around the availability of a replacement - not signing day.

regardless, let's avoid the comparisons to florida until they're warranted. the thought of it makes my skin crawl.

He left to go to the Ravens because UM didn't want him back -- the d-line underperformed that year especially down the stretch and in the bowl game. I remember this, because UM threw them under the bus after getting spanked by Michigan. Also, regardless of how voluntary Mattison's departure was, they actively lied to Hunter about the fact that he was leaving. He was already out the door before LOI day, but UM told OH that Mattison wasn't going anywhere. If ND is waiting to announce Latina's departure in order to keep recruits from jumping ship, then that's a load of crap that could come back to bite them in the future. It is possible (and I'd say likely, given my bias) that they've already informed recruits but are waiting on the announcement until Latina can line something up. That way they can say that Latina left ND in order to pursue another opportunity rather than saying that he was fired. If that's the case, I'm a big fan of the delay.

Im not debating what UM, Mattison and UF did to ND and OH was dirty. All I was saying was that he was not fired. And he took the Balt job.

The only way I'd want to be associated with Florida is if we get Meyer, or steal one of their recruits.

Seriously zimm, no guns here, but it not per Rivals specifically, but rather in another one of Dienhart's blogs. Once again you are using him as a source, even though he is the same tool who said Corwin Brown was going to take the Syracuse DC job. The "and it was done by phone" comment is the icing on the cake from this asshole. You think Dienhart will ever say who told him that. He can't because he is just making it up. All he is doing is taking the ESPN radio story from yesterday and putting his own spin on it. Now there is little doubt that this will happen eventually but please don't use this guy as the source if and when it is actually official.

You also correct, that he was the same douche that wrote the Corwin to Cuse????. Sorry IUB......from now on I will make sure I see who the writer is of said info, before I post.

This time it's official. BGI is reporting that Latina has "resigned" and that Frank Verducci is replacing him.
