usually wait until after both NFL and NCAA seasons are complete...helps to assess what HC's in both leagues (and their staffs) got the ax and could be available...the coaching carousel ratchets up every year, early jan the whispers start, in late Jan espn tries to report on what they call inside info but that anyone with a rivals or GH sub alredy knows about, and then in early Feb thru March the shit all goes public. ther horsetrading has already begun behind closed doors in lots of places.
i'd love to be a fly on the wall in Parcells office these days.

I've read grumblings of Andy Heck. It appears to be conjecture but I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about that? He has done very well as an offensive line coach with the Jags.

Andy Heck?
I've heard the typical forum nazis basically wishing for him, but never anything serious.
Do you have any substance to make you think this actually possible?

I want Chuck Long badly. No offensive coaches have been fired in the NFL.

It just seems to be the popular internet chatter, I haven't read anything about it from respectable sites which why i was curious. Seems intriguing because someone on GH started a "hire andy heck" thread well over a year ago.

I would prefer to see a college coordinator or former HC as the new OC, rather than a NFL guy, especially if that guy has no college experience.

You have to remember its going to be tough to get a former HC to come in and be the OC who knows he is not going to call plays. Thats alot for an ego to take. And it will be hard to find a guy who is super qualified that will accept that. I think it will be a Ron Prince OL/OC kinda guy who doesnt call plays. Or a young "Belichick" guy no one has heard of.

i agree as CW will more than likely call the plays. nobody is going to go from HC to OC here. i would like to see some up and coming guy brought in to learn the philo's to CW's scheme and add to it. i really don't see somebody coming from a major program or the nfl, their ego's won't work under CW. the OC needs to be a yes man under CW.
i think you are right, it will prolly be an O-line guy since that is the biggest glaring weakness.

Let's not jump to conclusions here. It was Haywoods first attempt as OC. With that being said, I would be surprised to see CW turn over play calling to someone who has had prior experience as an OC.

I like Ron Prince for OC. With a good O-line we would be dominate. He also wouldn't be too involved with the playcalling I would assume. Get an old Domer to be the RB coach.

Nice article on ND Army game players, but the part about Shaq Evans is why I include it here. He states Charlie will be calling plays next years, so he must know something we all don't. If that is true, a true OC will probably not be hired, but maybe a RB coach.

It would only make sense. CW has a lot riding on the 2009 season, I can't see him letting someone else call the plays. That being said, what coach is going to want to be OC in title only. Plus, if you bring in someone to coach the running backs, he could avoid making Latina the scapegoat for the struggles of the running game in 2008. Just my opinion.

I have no real solid reasons that I can sight for saying this. I am using a bit of information from here and there and making some leaps of faith. If I were to lay it all out it would take three pages and could not get a conviction in court because I cannot make the case beyond reasonable doubt. The most compelling evidence is a conversation I was involved in with someone at the university that is privy to a lot of information that they cannot share about the coaching situation. When they were told that retaining Charlie was a bad idea the response was “just wait and you will be happy.” I did not think much of it at the time but after reflecting on it I can only ponder that Charlie may not be HC next year. I cannot see him leaving and I cannot see him being fired. Therefore, that makes me wonder if he would step down, maybe for health reasons, and just be the OC. He could stop worrying about being the players friends and could just focus on the X’s and O’s. Charlie has a love for ND, does he have a love for being HC at ND? I do not know that Charlie would be happier if he was the OC not the HC, I have never heard him say anything to make me think that. I do not think his pride would let him step down, unless he was just unhappy with the HC job. How many times have great salespeople been promoted to sales managers to find out that they were happier as a salesperson? Again, I am only putting out as a theory. If it happens, it will be in the next few weeks or I will consider this a busted myth.

Who would be the head coach then? At some point, I could see part of post being true. It is entirely possible that Charlie would step down as HC for health reasons, at some point. But not now. Plus, who is to say that a new HC would want Charlie as the OC.

Maybe the reference of "just wait and you'll be happy" is in reference to the new OC?
I can't see CW stepping down to OC whether it be for health or any other reason. Besides, I doubt that they would want to pay that type of money to an OC and then again that much to a new HC. Just doesn't make sense.
