I got my first car when my dad bought a Datsun b210 Sundowner (hatchback) from a colleague at work for about 400 dollars. It was orange, and we called it the pumpkin. Not exactly a chick magnet, but it worked.

Here's a peek at what it looked like.

1964 Candy Apple Red Ford Falcon Convertible with a white vinyl top. I was the third person in my family to inherit it, so it was on it's way out by the time I had it. Used to go into the gas station with it (in the days of Full Service) and tell them to check the gas and fill up the oil. Great car, used to be able to drive it sitting on the top of the front seat with the top down. This of course was only done on picnic type grounds after mucho rounds of Schmidt's drafts from the keg. One day I pulled into a gas station and the owner ran out and offered me a $1000 bucks for the car which was not much less than what it was paid for brand new. I turned him down, a candy apple red convertible when you are 17 is worth a lot more than $1000 bucks. Anyway, the next week I pulled the car out onto my street and all of a sudden the steering wheel was not moving the wheels. The axle had rusted and fell clean off the bottom of the car when I first turned the wheel that morning. LOL, I would have been dead if that had happened on the highway going 60. The car was too old to get replacement parts for so I lost the $1000 bucks and my chick magnet in a matter of a week. Losing the car was much harder to take, man I loved that car, had a lot of great times in it.

Thanks for the memories, Stony.

1984 Chrysler LeBaron with 200k on it. Drove it hard for 3 years and put well over 50k more on it. Got it from my parents for free after my mother drove it for a period of time. Ultimately sold it to a junkyard for $50.

91 Carolla. I forget the miles when I got it, but it didnt matter what I was told. It probably had 500K on it when I got it. Everything on it was A P.O.S.

The ONLY good thing that came from that, was I hit my future ex girlfriends car with it, at school.

Eventually it died weeks later after a rainy night and a fire hydrant.

I think my parents put a life insurance policy on me, and told me to drive that deathtrap.

1969 Chevy Nova. Bought it from my sister for $1000, and eventually sold it to a kid in Chicago because I needed plane fare to San Francisco. He souped it up (e.g., air scoops), repainted it (metallic blue), added chrome conspicuously, jacked up the hind end, and generally had it running much finer than I did. That's funny Calves:D

I do recall that the owner of Liquor World here was in his store and really happy and chatting up this expensive $$ Lexus he just got. He eagerly asked about six of us to go out in the parking lot with him to look see. There was the annual Hot Rod show in town that week, and when we went out the door three Rods pull in 34 Ford etc. Everyone surrounded those Rods admiring them and asking questions. He's in the back sort of wailing 'Doesn't anyone want to see my Lexus?.'

Someone said who cares? Now these are cars.

First car I drove was '81 Datsun 510 Station Wagon - straight pimpin'. Even had 12 inch subs running off amps under the seat. Even had the luggage rack too....the ladies loved it.

First car I owned was a '93 Ford Probe GT - I think it was motortrend car of the year in '93. Got alot of looks in the early years. When years went by, the whole quality issue came into play and it fell apart. Sold it in a forced sale for $500.

Careful of other traffic.

There was then this "BOOM" and from the tail pipe came all this white oil smoke covering everything behind us.:D We coasted to an off ramp and donnie is repeatedly saying. Mine was an 82 Mustang, kinda small but we always seem to manage to fit 5 people in it. This was back in my partying days, so after my mom had borrowed it one day she came in and asked me what was growing in the back seat area. Honestly not knowing what she was talking about me and my brother investigated. Much to our surprise we found that by throwing small seeds onto the floor area and spilling enough beer you could grow an illegal plant through the carpet in the back of the car.!!

I guess I just missed this thread .... I learned to drive in a silverrado pickup.

Now my first car was a '74 AMC Gremlin, bought it for $500 bucks. Yes I know over priced but hell I need a ride and a car and it was the only thing I could find I could afford.

My second car I purchased for an old lady who could no longer drive, it was a '78 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa84/car_pic_addict/IMG_1073.jpg

As a graduation gift, my neighbor "Frog" (yes that was his nickname) stole this car and put in it a chevy 350 shortblock possy trac rearend and a 4 bl carborator. He had it about two weeks, I filed a police report and everything and the cops who took the report (small town) were in on the whole thing. Everyone in the county I think knew who Frog was.

Mine was a 1989 Gray Nissan Maxima. Speedometer didn't work. Sweet sun roof. The bumper on the front and back the paint was wearing off and you saw this sweet yellow color. It was epic.

My first car was an '85 Cutlass. It was smooth. I got hit from behind and totalled it while pulling in to my then girlfriend's (now wife's) driveway. Give me a few more years and I'll let you know if it was a sign or not.

I had a gray 1984 Dodge 600 that was almost impounded the first night I drove the thing because apparently it's illegal to drive through your asshole neighbor's yard. It was my grandad's car, then my dad's work car, then it was the car I listened to the Notre Dame pregame radio show on every Saturday. Fond memories of the car, and fonder memories of the bond shared with grandpa and dad who both "LOVED THEE NOTRE DAME!"

The horse and buggy I had was rad, man. White walled wheels, chromed the wooden spokes. And the crop I used to sport had my horse kickin everyones ass off the line. Them were the days.

1981 Ford Mustang. It was 12 years old, but the thing was in perfect condition. It had t tops and was candy apple red. My dad bought if for my older brother, but while he was away at college, I got to drive it.

I ended up hitting a tree going about 50mph and totaled it about 3 months after I got my license. The good thing was that I was ok, and the car was so smashed up, that my dad and brother weren't even mad because they both thought it should have killed me. So the lesson I learned, other than always were your seatbelt, was if you are going to wreck a car, total it.
