View Full Version : The Last 7!!!

As I stated in another thread I think that we are going to end up with 24 total recruits this year. So here are my selections, reasoning, and impact for the team: (rubbing my hands together like Mr. Burns)

1. Michael Floyd...It's not going to be easy, but I think CW pulls this one through on just his track record with receivers. (Look what he did with Givens in New England) This kid is a superstar in the making! Enough said!

2. Etienne Sabino...Just getting him up here from the depths of hell, i.e. Florida, speaks volumns to where the program is headed. Be it that I live in Orlando, you have no idea of the pressure that these kids are subjected to. Everyone is pushing for their fav Florida football mill. Quietly, this kid becomes great in college, but becomes even better after a few years in the NFL.

3. Dan McCarthy...Hey the kid is Irish and he gets to play with his big bro to boot. Not to mention the fact that he will press for playing time early...probably as a KR or PR. Quality player that could easily turn into a John Lynch type.

4. Matt Patchan...I think he has the same intangibles that we see in Ethan Johnson. I don't believe that he plays into all of the promises and hype that most schools feed recruits these days. However, this is my sleeper pick. Imagine this kid on one end of the line and Sam Young on the other. Can we say dominance. IMO he will rival Joe Thomas in ability, but he is much nastier.

5. Jeremy Brown...He commits during his visit. All he needs to see is the campus and its all over. The word in Orlando is that his Dad is sold on CB and ND. Jeremy just wants to make sure. Can't blame him. JB is the type of kid that will leave it on the field for his team and coach. Plays within the system and is the unsung hero. Solid get.

6. Jonathan Baldwin...I think that playing time may play into this decision. We all know that our present crop of receivers is so so, Kumara excluded, Baldwin has to realize that playing time would most likely be in his future as a freshman. He could really showcase his stuff. I think that's too hard to pass-up. Gets the call to play on Sundays on the first day of the draft.

7. Shayne Hale...I truly believe that this kid is playing the recruiting game as close to his vest as possible. I think that he is another Hunter for this class. Didn't really give ND a thought till he got to campus, then can we say 180. I acknowledge that this is my long shot pick, but I'm ok with that. This kid belongs on defense for the Bears or Steelers.

Note: I think all of these are locks, except Hale and Patchan. If Patchan doesn't pull the trigger for ND than I see Page sliding into his slot. I also know that I will catch slack for not putting Filer up there, but I just have a feeling about the kid. Sorry all but the only time he could be running through the tunnel would be with the "Skunkbears"! That said, Hale is a bit of a stretch, but one I consider do-able. But if it doesn't happen, it's gonna be Compton.

Let the comments begin.

LOL Way too early, I need more than rum for me to get behind McCarthy and Hale committing to us.

Just drink enough to get you thinking McCarthy is Irish. I'd have to chug a whole 5th of Everclear for Hale. Patchan might be another long shot, I like ND's chances on the other 5 on the list too.

Take out Hale and put in Filer. I dont think ND has a shot with Hale but I think they still have a chance with Filer.

Floyd- I think so too. I'd say I'm 80% on him.
Sabino- That would be great. I'm only... 55% on him though. I really hope so because he's an early enrollee and we could really use them in the front 7.
McCarthy- I don't have any premium info and I have seen nothing suggesting OSU or anywhere else. I would guess he's Irish, 67%. If he goes to OSU, I am prepared to say it was a weak class of safeties and we'll get our next year.
Patchan- I would like to see a top tier tackle in this class. I'll say 40% on his verbal.
Brown- 99%. He has always spoken very highly of ND and I wish him the best...here.
Baldwin- Hmmm. 50% on Baldwin. It would be great to grab 3 WRs and I would be very excited about what he would do here. I am optimistic like everyone that he is a stud now, but at that height, is he? I guess the comparison I am looking for is him vs Stovall. Stovall was Bambi, but he contributed his FR year. I sold myself, Baldwin is ready to play!
Hale- Your post is assuming he actually was on campus, right? Last I heard, concesus was that he was not here. I give us 30% chance. Having Hale in our LB core would be exciting.

Those names up there look good.

What about Carlton Thomas? Or, any TB for that matter? I guess it could come down to a numbers game and if even on e of the above guys do not give us our verbal, we could take a TB. It's a timing game though. Baldwin is a AAA verbal, Hale is ???, Floyd could wait a while too. If Thomas tries before we hear from them, he could be told the famous Urban line, "Not yet."

Filer? It's a mystery. He might fit in here somewhere. Same with Page. How about Jenkins, Forston, Lewis-Moore, Aghayere? We'll see.

Nice post NDGirlsRock and great topic / thread. ;)

As of now I think, with the depth at running back, you skip a back this season and go for more of what's needed. However, next recruiting season you I think that you have to go after the top running backs in the country. If it ain't broke don't fix it! IMO we have too much talent at tailback to say its broke, eventhough, most of it is unproven.

i would rather have butler. hes supposed to be faster and i thought baldwin was one of those almost too big to be a reciever, and id say we have a fair amount of tight ends.

I'm hearing that our goose has been cooked with him. IK can probably explain it better, but he's said that Butler will be dawning a USC cap whenever he's done announcing his commitment.

I won't publicly bash a recruit, but I'm on the opposite side of Lynch's fence. I'll take Baldwin any day of the week over Butler. Yes, I'm aware that Butler is a more college ready prospect, but beyond what I see on the gridiron... I'm not impressed by some of the things he says. Its my personal taste I suppose, but I'll find it easier to root against him than root for him.

Hey guys nice site. I Butler strikes me as obviously a different type of reciever as compared to Bladwin and Goodman. Weis has stated that he likes to get different types of recievers so to me, Butler might be a better get for us. I don't know if we can but it is just a thought.
