According to this link, Compton says he has not been offered because the Irish still think thye have a shot a Hale. Any one here got info supporting this? All i have heard is he is OSu all the way.
There was a buch of rumors the other week about him being on campus but i believe it was Ethan Johnson and not Hale. I would love to get this kid. He looks lika beast waiting to blast our opponents off the field.

IMO, our chances with Hale are slim and none, and slim couldn't get into Notre Dame -- rejected by admissions.
But seriously, Compton is on hold because of our standing with Steve Filer and Etienne Sabino, both of whom the Irish feel very strongly about. I still fully believe Filer will be Irish even though he's playing the game (think Marcus Forston) and Sabino is a wildcard, who I think could be stolen out of South Florida if we just can get him on campus.
Finally, back to Hale... I think he ultimately ends up as a defensive end at the next level.

I agree with Svo, ND's chances with Hale are at about 1% at most ATM.

I agree with both of you, i just read that and it caught me off guard. Though if CW can get Omar hunter onto campus and wow him, whats to say hayle would not be blown away if he ever made it to campus?

Of course there is always a possiblity -- you definitely learned that with the Omar Hunter commitment. However, Hale has already visited campus before when he was in for an unofficial during Penn State last year.

I don't know Hale might be a lost cause but maybe not alot of the reports have come from biased places rather from neutral sources.
I may be way off but I think as some more time goes by he will see most of these schools will want to move him to DE because of his size and at ND with the 3-4 his size is perfect for an OLB.
Well thats my $0.02. :)

Svoboda, love the site!
I alluded on another site that maybe the final LB spots are about to go. I wonder if Sabino is coming in to give ND a check because ND maybe about to offer Compton. I am not saying Compton is better then Sabino, but maybe ND is using this as pressure. You have Sabino who shows a lot of promise, but you have a kid in Compton who loves ND. If I am Corwin Brown maybe that love or passion for ND football translates into a better recruit, but you have to honor your offers. Hence, maybe there is a little push going on now.

Compton's the type of kid you pull for but he's probally worst case scenario for the staff. You have to shoot for the talent, CW has proven he can get a guy on campus and anything can happen.

Well Compton is definately passionate about ND football. I think that if the kid got an offer he would commit right then and there. My gut feeling is that Filer, eventhough everyone says he is an ND lean, is heading elsewhere. Sabino is possible, come-on CB work your magic, and I think Compton, if he is patient, will get his coveted offer. Compton reminds me of guys like Stonebreaker and Zorich. They bled for ND and I think this kid will too. Just give him a chance and he'll walk through fire for you.

I really identified with your point ndblue. I feel that the only way Hale gets his scholarship, is if it is still available. We have approximately twenty something (25?) offers still open, and not even half of that in scholarships remaining for this year. It is a part of recruiting that is necessary for us to achieve what we have thus far this year. Sure we may keep an 'open spot' for a couple of these youngsters, but this would be the exception and not the rule. And whom will the exception's will be?
I feel that Coach Weis learned a valuable lesson from last years class...that 'silent' verbals don't hold water? We should put out quality offers, offers that yes...we are intending to honor while available. But with Coach Weis's new policy, I believe we will get our guys...and they will remain committed. First come...first served.
But ndblue, like NDGirl, I too feel that Compton has already made known his desire for the Irish...and this kid can play. He is this years Brian Smith...to say the least. And I for one wouldn't feel any less about our next years incoming class having Will Compton in South Bend in 2008.
By the way...I like Hale, question is does he really like us? I sure wouldn't want to lose out on a quality linebacker waiting for this answer...

But, I don't think all things are equal. ES is probably a better linebacker (and an OLB at that) than Compton. That said, I wouldn't mind if Compton got an offer.

Its a real balancing act here. Physically, Compton is a lot like Aaron Nagel. 6'1"-6'2" 215-220. With Nagel, we know he's got to hit the weight room a bit before he can take the field at LB, and we know he's only going to be an ILB. Same deal with Compton if you ask me.
Translation: with 7 months to go 'til LOI day, and at least 2 of the 4 offered LB's slated to visit later this month, I like the idea of waiting this one out 'til summer's end. Every one of the offered LB's is a consensus top 100 athlete... you don't throw that opportunity away because of cold feet in July... we've earned the ability to be a little picky after 17 verbals, so I say use it to your advantage.

I think that the LBs that we have gotten, last year and this year, should gel as a cohesive unit. With that said, we have some big name LBs. (Fleming, McDonald) But you also need the guys that know there job and can let the the key guys roam the field like the caged lions that they are. I say we need one more big name guy (whether it be Sabino or Filer) and a guy like Compton. Fit the scheme, don't just take the big name player that may not gel well with the rest of your guys.

One more big name guy would be welcome, two would cause me to have a drink. I do agree though, I like the fact that our commits seem to gel pretty quickly.

I agree Stoney, This says alot for the quality of the person, more so than the ability. When we are able to secure a player with both, then we can just about do anything with our offensive and defensive schemes.
By the way, careful on what your drinking...looks like you will be drinking after all? What would you do if we secure three big names?

feel free to disregard anything TAA says about hale. he was the one pumping hale to ND back around July 4th relentlessly. DomerDomain posters shot off at anyone questioning TAA about the whole ordeal but failed to apologize when Hale eliminated ND from his options.

First of all. I did admit my source was wrong but wasn't wrong with McCarthy, and Ethan Johnson along with J. Slaughter. So whatever to you... I'm a true Irish fan at heart... But if you go to the DD and read my history If you think that I start terrible rumors all the damn time... It was once and it is over so get off my nuts about it...

He was the one mistaken not me...
it's so easy to pass the blame on someone else, but let's examine the situation here...
your source said he saw hale on campus, and he was wrong.
you then, assuming he was on campus, also saw that hale had cancelled all of his other summer trips. this info was accurate.
you then assumed hale did so because of charlie's recruiting policy, and this is where you put 2 and 2 together and got 5. you automatically assumed that if hale was on campus and cancelled his other visits that he was irish instead of sticking with "facts" by saying "he's on campus, he has cancelled his visits. this looks good for us, considering charlie's recruiting policy."
you jumped to a forgone conclusion and let the DD members berrate anyone who challeneged your position. after news surfaced of hale's top four (sans Notre Dame), you quoted, "i still have to believe that the irish are players in this one," instead of owning up to your premature evaluation of the situation.
as for sharing info, i'm all for it. i'm thankful for people who share inside info, but i think it is irresponsible to mix info with inside suppositions and pass it off as truth. and, for you to use your source as a scapegoat when you were the one who formulated that hale was irish (after all, your source simply told you that hale was on campus), is immature. sure, we make mistakes, but at least man up and own up to it when you do.... instead of taking the easy way out.

You wanna debate Troy... We can debate but in no way are you going to find a bigger ND fan... Born in raised in Gary, IN I never have left the Irish side... why do you think i am questioning your loyalty to the irish? nowhere have i ever implied that you aren't an irish fan. i know that you are an irish fan... that much is obvious.
i just think you speak with such certainty about things, create a huge uproar, and pass the blame when you are wrong. you post like you know the kid (i.e. "the kid wants to be the next courtney brown") when in reality, you know nothing about him other than what you read on rivals/scout. i was just warning the other posters to take your views on hale with a grain of salt.
that being said, i didn't question your other predictions.... i don't even know your other recruit involvement, but i do know that you were wrong on hale and used a scapegoat to cop out... which is pretty weak.
and as far as your comment about my name... you know as much about this handle (and its meaning) as you do about shayne hale. sometimes, you should learn more about something before you spout off at the mouth.

Maybe its just me, but isn't 90% of the info on message boards in general unconfirmed info, and should be taken as such. I don't believe that there are very many of us talk to the recruits ourselves, so at best, most everything is second-hand info to begin with. I myself, take every statement under caution, so there is no need for someone to tell me to do so. Even everything IUB, who I trust implicitly, says is taken with caution - because someday even he may be wrong.

For the record I think that we have no shot at Hale! As far as TAA is concerned, his information seems to be right on, for the most part. Seems to me that Tony just wants to pick on people...me included! This is what posting is about! It includes your opinions and no source is fool-proof. TAA I just want to say that I hope that you do keep posting on here, I like your insight and I think you add alot to the discussions. As for Tony, we may not agree on things and he loves to tell me that I don't know my a** from a hole in the ground, but it's guys like him that crank off some pointed posts that help liven things up. Only thing I would say to Tony is ease up on people....just cause you don't agree with one of TAA's sources or posts doesn't mean that they are all bad or my opinions. To me they are valid! To others they are valid or not valid. Don't rip my head off because of it.
